I like the walking dead look they have now. Makes them actually look like a walking disease which is what they are.

Walking dead shouldn't prance around waving their swords like gnomes. They'd be far more scary if they came in masses and moved slowly like an inevitable curtain slowly spreading over you. More like zombies instead of these twitchy plastic action figures running around in groups of three.

One word describes the new look: Skeletor.

And Skeletor is awesome. So the new artstyle is nothing but good. :D

I don't mind their new look, but why do they look like that now? Is there some specific reason? Or is it just the new darkspawn look?

Either way, it looks nice, but they look too...clean and shiny now. That's my only problem with the new darkspawn.

I love the new look. The old darkspawn looked bland. Permanent grins on monsters look silly to me, always have. I know it's supposed to be creepy but it comes off as hokey.

The new ones look as though they almost cannot control their bodies completely. They are still capable of fighting but there is a lack of human grace that I like. It's bestial, in a way.

I would have preferred a more uncanny valleyish appearance. But at least they aren't dollar store orcs anymore.

They went from Orcs and Goblins to diseased looking corpse fiends (Which is what they are). So, I for one welcome our new fabulous dark spawn overlords.

this is how I saw the Darkspawn originally. I welcome the change.

I'm just happy it doesn't take 20 seconds to swing a two handed weapon to behead them.

I could see them as rage zombies too. But I guess the problem is they're not decidedly any one thing. They act insecure in the cutscenes when they should be twitching and crazed for blood. Or mindlessly closing in on their targets.

Bestial they are not because beasts would be hunters perfectly controlling their bodies.

Maybe they should have been unarmed and unarmored. The equipment has been clearly crafted for them which hints intelligence and being organized.

Mindless and bloodthirsty, or controlled and equipped, but not something weird in between.

I get the orc reference to the original darkspawn from DA:O, but I really don't think theyre that similar, minus the color of the "skin". The original darkspawn looked like twisted rotting corpses or like they've have their skin burned and flayed if you look at the holes where the ears should be (orcs usually have long and/or pointy ear) and the sinister smile was great, also Orcs in LotR and most fantasy have hair, darkspawn dont.

These pale and shiney darkspawn that like to show off thier legs and backs with their odd armor. Another thing! The yellish grimy/moldy corrupted armor they wore in the first game was also better and added a sinister element to the darkspawn. Why do they look like they are wearing shiney brand new steel armor?

And jeeeez i can't get over the glossy pale skin, its not even like corpse white, its pale living human white, but glossy like they're all sweaty or covered in donut glaze....

They live underground for centuries at a time. Of course they are going to have pale skin.

I'm not huge on the new look either. I'm not at all disturbed by the Darkspawn seen in the demo...while in the first game, I hesitated on buying the game because I was like, "I don't normally like stuff that features something that monstrous looking..." but I tried it anyway and of course, loved it. They really helped prepare you for the later even more horrific broodmothers and all that... I don't know, can we believe that these darkspawn are like the weaker, more pathetic darkspawn sent to wipe out peasant villages and the actual scary darkspawn went after our Wardens? >.>

Has anybody considered the fact that those are a different form of Darkspawn? They were referred to as scouts by Hawke's sister, so maybe that's all they are. Maybe the real Darkspawn are still around (fingers crossed)

I liked the darkspawn in DAO,but they looked way too generic. Now you can still see that they were humans at some point, and it's always cool to have an original look.

The original darkspawn remind of LOTR, in a good way. I like the new design too, but I prefer the original.

I made a poll, maybe we can get a sample of how the majority of the community feels?
