I think the Darkspawn in Dragon age 2 kinda look like those talking Darkspawn in Dragon age origins Awakning

I prefered the old Darkspawn. The Origins Darkspawn looked like an unstoppable force of tainted creatures, created out of pure taint, range, and envy. They don't hesitate and look all worried, they rush in to gut you and drink your inards. Hurlocs and Genlocs sort of gave me a Orc/Goblin vibe, but it was in a good way, and they were different enough.

What we have now...these aren't the marauding monsters the Warden stopped in Origins/Awakening. They are fidgety, bald, albino, squealing monkies. They don't look massive and impossing, they look fragile and pathetic. That is what the new Darkspawn look is, a bunch of pathetic putties that serve the only purpose as things to hit or catch on fire. The old Darkspawn look like you could contract the taint just by standing too close to them, these guys just look like bald chimps with shiney armor that shows off their slim but toned backs and legs...bah! Hogwash I say!

And I hope there are actually Genlocs in this game. This is a demo so they could be in the final game. That or all the Genlocs decided to go on vacation in Orlais, or got fed up with their cousins being turned from their larger, bullying cousins to these pathetic putties.

Ogres look cool though, and the Emissaries look cool as well.

But those Hurlocs man...I wouldn't be supprised if they started chirping like those Martians from "Mars Attacks" film.

Yeah, I don't see orc at all. Actually I see more of Reptile from MK but kinda burnt/charred. Even the teeth are extremely disturbing the way they dont seem to have lips and they grow right out of the front of the face...

These new Putty-Hurlocks look like they have dentures or are really, really, good at brushing their teeth and flossing....

Remember though that Darksporn are born from Broodmothers, and the Darkspawn born are based on the species of the woman who was turned into a Broodmother.

These Darkspawn Hurlocks are from a Human turned into a Broodmother. And these new Hurlocks look more human than the old Darkspawn Hurlocks.

You mightn't like the artstyle choice, but it kinda.. fits more.

The old Darkspawn looked like twisted and "enhanced" humans. The new ones look like they're the refugees.

Lack of sign of the Taint (Rotting flesh that constantly regenerate itself, black gooey...err tainty stuff?) and the fact they are not wearing bits and pieces of spikey makeshift armor is a MAJOR retcon from the established lore. Especially since I loved the old description from the novel.

The problem is they are animated to act like the Putty Patrol, and they all look exactly the same, with stupid chainmail hoods, and monkey faces.  Just sad.  I want to see the Animaotrs of dragon age respond to all the glaring problems in the animations.

What I would like to see is the redesign of the Genlocks, if there are still any at all in the game ofcourse... did they all of asudden vanish from the world of DA?

They looked stupid before and they look stupid now. I dislike the darkspawn in general. I felt the cast of enemies fought in previous games based on the forgotten realms universe was both more interesting and diverse.

The hurlocks looked more disturbing and tainted in origins. You could still vaguely see that they resembled humans like genlocks resembled dwarves but... I don't know. The new look really gives that cartoony feeling, especially with the way they now move. Not the disturbing tainted rotting monsters with ugly sharp vile teeth I've grown to expect. But I'll survive the change;).

I do think their skin tone could have been a bit darker, but aslong as they dont look like generic fantasy orcs, its all good.

Yeah, I just can't get over the change, it's like the did some early test models and someone said "EF IT! just use that, we have to get this game out soon!" The new game doesn't look like Dragon Age to me, it doesn't fit in with the lore from the books or the first 2 games, and the settings are far too sparse and shiny, the darkspawn are just the biggest disappointment to me though.

What are these creatures with their pearly white flat teeth,  stub noses, and pale skin that lack the taint. That don't have a sinister knowing look to them, that now jump around and act unsure and with lack of confidence so much like the putty patrol? It's a shame what they've done IMO.

They looked dorky before and they look clownish now. Though Shrieks were cool looking.

All things considered, I would have liked to see the original skins up until the Blight is ended early in DA2. Both designs are appreciated, but I think it would have been interesting to note a difference between your run-of-the-mill Deep Roads darkspawn and the type that come along with the presence of an Archdemon, perhaps with the taint much amplified. The new design looks like a transitional point between human and DA:O darkspawn.

Yeah i told my friend that was my second biggest problem... glad i'm not the only one who thinks they just look silly. They were more scary in the first game!

I think Darkspawn have suffered from the new art direction, but I much prefer the overall look of the game. Enviroments especially are more fantastical with the new style.

I think it's a net improvement, but there are some serious drawbacks.

Would like to say that I too prefer the old design. The re-design made them look like ..toys(?), too clean. Seems like they added dental plans with the taint.

The new look for the darkspawn is good. They have a more unique look that also makes more sense. I would expect that creatures who don't see much light would be albinos.

I like the original darkspawn more because it looks as if they have more texture to them..like their skin is melting off or something. The new ones, including the orcs, just look bland and too fleshy and soft..

Yes and they do look like that but they are beastial and covered with blood and dirt most of the time so you don't see the skins so white most of the time look at the hurlock above.
