I really like the look of primal too, but I am very partial to ice magic. Due to elemental mastery, taking ice and lightning would not be quite as good, but I still might do it.

The cool down time on Heal was ridiculously long. I'm hoping that's something that has been fixed.

This this THIS.

But yes, my first playthrough will be a mage. Maybe a spirit healer/force mage.

I'm kind of dissapointed that Shapeshifter is not in, threw out my first Mage concept character. And I looked at the abilities and there are no Necromancer-like abilities either, second Mage concept character in the dumpster.

So what is a Force Mage? And what kind of abilities will it have?

Edit:  If what Chris said was true and I can raise "dead form the ground" I want to know how, if I can't be a Shapeshifter, I'd at least like to be a Necromancer.

As poeple know who read the Warrior class discussion thread, I usually play warriors in fantasy games (and heavy gunners in shoter, etc). Whiel I appreciate having a mage with me for healing or (essentailly) artillery, I usually prefer having the weapon in my hand, wading in and smacking people around.

However, Dragon Age 2 has changed my opinion. As usual, I first played through with a warrior and had a great time, but along the way I would take over one of the party NPC mages (Merrill, Bethany, etc) and use them when needed in battle (or when my warrior died). They were much more fun to play than I was expecting. Sure, you can still rely on your party mahges for healing or support, etc but actually being the mage, selecting what spells I wanted, not to mention the much better mage outfits in DA2 made them a much more enjoyable experience than I was expecting.

Don't get me wrong, I still loves me my 2 handed berzerker warrior, but mages kick a lot of buttock in DA2. They also set them on fire, freeze them in place, rip them apart, etc. :wizard:

Ofc you wanna play a Mage... you completely ruined the Warrior class. Thanks.

Force Mage / Blood Mage sounds nice...

I just want to be a force to be reckoned with in melee/range as well as do that demon-hand-rip thing...which I'm going to assume is a Blood Mage skill?

here's hoping for lesser mage robes(like just a maximum of... ONE!) and TONS more mage-armor like in the Destiny trailer.

Oh and more staff swords!

I really like the new combat animations. Never played a mage in DA:O but definitely will in DA2.

BUT why do they still wear stupid looking robes?? The outfit during the initial exaggerated segment was nice but robes... ughhh. Robes might fit someone who looks like gandalf but Hawke is a handsome/beautiful young lad/lass and robes certainly do not look great on him/her.

this. I can't stand the robes.

I really like the new mage animation and it looks potentially like a cool class... unfortunately when I did my mage run on the demo, opening the skill wheel crashed my xbox twice... so while I would love to say more all I can say is... the animation is nice.

Mage is still the most powerful class in the game. The fundamental design of the class guarantees it. The combination of damage, CC and utility their spells grant will always insure that fact. In DA2, no enemy except maybe boss level monsters will be able to even get close to a high level mage, let alone cause damage. I am finding it funny that the majority of the forum is jerking off to archer rogues, when a properly built mage is vastly more powerful.

New combat animations and system made casters extremely playable class. But magic itself is still usual (if I can use that description for magic). I mean that, I was expecting really corrupted spells, weird nightmare stuff. And here we have another fireball etc. Why only when user is possessed (like in Conor case) magic become interesting and so awesome? Remember that funny fella "answer-for-answer-question-for-question" from the forest? Twisted minds and creepy aura is that, what should define mages in Dragon Age. Demo shown only overpowered good looking epic heroes. Even good old baba-jaga style Flemeth now looks like retired model. I'm not surprised but kinda disappointed.

Well the demo is kinda short, I wouldn't judge all mages by that. I'm sure there will also be some crazy mages out there, if nothing else for the sake of keeping up with lore and their role in society.

I think for my party I'll stick with a stone mage. Making targets brittle with upgraded abilities and them blowing them apart with archer skills, hehe.

I don't understand why people are complaining about heal cooldown being so long in all honesty in the first one when did you ever use heal once your spell power got high you would just use regen and grp heal for aoe. As long as the spirit healer tree gets some type of heal over time we will be quite fine just make sure you use a tank style warrior for boss fights and I highly doubt we will have that much problems with keeping people alive. In the demo, I only had bethany heal and as a mage with just frostbolt and the aoe stun mindblast I single handedly kited down the ogre after my scrubs died but they made sure to take down the adds before they died so i only had the ogre and 3 hurlock grunts to kite down.

The only way it won't be fairly easy is if they actually spped up the mobs in the actual game to where they can catch you despite slow abilities and your use of stuns.

Personally, I have always loved being a mage in any game just because of the raw power they possess. It's a very dangerous route normally, and to overcome such dangers warrants a few brownie points. I think mages are very strong people, and heck, they kinda deserve to be smug.

"I can set you on fire with my mind. Oh, you have a sword? How cute."

I especially love the section dealing with the Spirit, but then you have to have the fire raining down on your enemies - gotta have the cliche, right? XD

And I just love the mage animations for DA2. <3<3<3<3<3

But you don't want to find yourself in that position in the first place Odin, better to heal your tank at low levels, saving yourself potions, than to have no tank at all. Also, if injury kits return, you'll save a lot of sovereigns.

anyone notice the kool red lines all over hawke in that screeny with anders and the desire demon/spirit. Im guessing its blood magic activated? Im hoping it is it looks AWESOME. Maybe spirit healers will get a blue line thing like anders/justice does when they have cleansing aura on. Thatd be so awesome.

Maybe blood mage hawke summoned the desire? Maker i hope so!

I do hope that by playing a Mage, you help change the perception of Mages everywhere... unless your a Blood Mage, which I plan to be. Never did unlock that class in Origins.

Frankly, is it really a mage what I saw in the demo? It looked to me just a warrior with ice bolts (or fireballs, etc.).
