I want and expect the same when anyone sees a bloody blood mage.

Now that arcane warrior is off the chart. I would like to be a blend of force and blood mage. hoping blood wound and blood control are the spells available in the specialization

i would also be happy if the force mage specialization has the raise dead ability. i really loved delving into that kind of necromancy

walking bomb and crushing prison are back but i dont seem to find mana cleanse...

is it again level 7 and 14 for the special skill trees??

I think force mage will come in pretty early in the game, since its "popular" in kirkwall according to the dragon age wiki.

so i have to find the blood mage first

Well, I never managed to unlock it anyways, so I can't speak from first hand knowledge. I couldn't bring myself to get passed Ostagar as a mage, I was just so bored. Now, playing a mage looks really exciting, and I think this broadening appeal in this case is a very good thing.

I'm loving the armor design for the mage. The demo has me wanting to play as a mage during my first playthrough.

I will take the force mage and blood mage as my mage classes.

Spirit Healer and Blood Mage is an obvious combo that people don't seem to be wanting, which I think is odd. Fuel Magic with health, then restore health of everyone, you'll have so much mana, you won't know what to do with it all!

every mage should be a spirit healer, at least in DA:O this made the game much much easier

For role-playing purposes,I ignored the Spirit Healer spec.

AOE spells can no longer lock in on single targets; is this only in the demo or confirmed in the full game as well?

The arcane warrior is actually a lost legacy which was(is) discovered by the grey wardens of ferelden in the elven ruins and thats when it is unlocked.

This happens parallely when Hawke is on his way to rise in power. So unless Hawke gets to learn it from the previous warden or from an elven spirit..  there is no other way to get the arcane warrior into picture as it would make the story inconsistent.
But since Hawke is more about damage and destruction the force mage should be good enough seconded with the blood mage specialization.

However the arcane warrior was my top favorite in the Origins and the mage becomes more devastating with bloog magic and then battle mage specialization in awakening brings the creaming on the ice. the arcane warrior blood battle mage with spirit and elemental spells becomes a juggernaut of power

Actually, that line of reasoning doesn't quite work ... you could have learned it from Anders, who had that option in Awakening. Since we're not meeting Anders until after the events in Awakening, the timeline fits. But that's neither here nor there since AW isn't an option.

Anyway, I usually play rogue 9 times out of 10. But I'm very nearly being swayed by the idea of playing mage first. The only thing putting me off at the moment is the robe situation. Yes, I'm very, very shallow like that. ^_^

I actually really like the idea of the contradiction between picking up both spirit healer and blood mage. It seems at first glance that both would be opposing specialisations, but in fact the reasoning behind picking up both suggests a deep understanding and reverence for a control over life and death ... I really like that idea.

That said, I want to have Anders in my party, and if he's going to be the healer, I'm not sure I need two, so blood mage and force mage would make more sense if we're looking at optimal specs. Perhaps there will be enough difference between his spec and Hawkes that it is possible ... we'll have to wait and see. Perhaps I'll play rogue first after all so I can find out how Anders can be optimally spec'd before taking the plunge with 2 mages in the party.

I pray that placing AoE spells works better in the full game. Had to find a tiny free spot in a mass of Darkspawn several times to place my AoE, because I couldn't just throw it on top of a mob.

I'd like to be able to use Blood Magic in dialogue. Something like how Jedi Mind Tricks was used in Star Wars the Knights of the Old Republic. After all, blood magic is supposed to be able to be used as a form of mind control.

I think they have, you place it in an area not on an enemy. Yes there are issues with that, maybe create a thread in the technical forum.

The most pressing issue for me with mages is how many talent points is it possible to get? 20 points (or 19 without respeccing)(20 If you're gonna take arcane). To get to the end talent of any chain, you need to invest a minimum of 8 points (for most.) Leaving you 4 for upgrades and or odd spells. I find this very limiting.

I'm going to play a mage first, I know this. But chances are I'll only be investing in one specialization given known progression. So why give us 2?

I prefer the sister. Carver complains too much.

Why 20? For all we know you will end up at much higher level at the end of the game. Plus there might be plenty of skill books like in original DA to give us extra talent points.

I will be playing a mage again, it's a natural fit for me and my roleplaying, as magic runs strongly in the Amell family. I'm going to miss Arcane Warrior and Battle Mage, but nonetheless I will hope to wear heavy armour again as well as wield a good sword and shield. Of course, without the Arcane Warrior's strength, heavy armour might be beyond my first Hawke.

I will be playing Force Mage and Spirit Healer, won't be touching Blood Magic. It's going to be interesting to see how the Mage class compares to Origins in terms of damage and cooldown time. Hopefully we will have some kick butt spells again. I don't mind if they are different from Origins, as it helps to broaden the class a lot.
