Tactics is glitch in the demo, Bioware have acknowledged this and have stated it is fixed in the release version.
I will believe that when I read player's reports on it (after release). I have heard that tune too many times. A demo is the showcase of what is great in the game. Bad robe mesh and texture aside, the worst thing I saw was an AI mage that could not hit anything with her fireball unless it was standing perfectly still (and that is with a near 0 casting time). I doubt that will be fixed between demo and release since it is not a simple vector calculation.

So what is a Force Mage? And what kind of abilities will it have?
Think of the TK powers that Jedi have and you will probably be more right than wrong.

anyone notice the kool red lines all over hawke in that screeny with anders and the desire demon/spirit. Im guessing its blood magic activated? Im hoping it is it looks AWESOME.
No it is something else, probably darkspawn blood activation (power rangers go!). The Ogres do it too right before they use a combat skill (smash, throw boulder, etc.). It a way of saying hit them with the
Pommel Strike or Freeze them now!

Frankly, is it really a mage what I saw in the demo? It looked to me just a warrior with ice bolts (or fireballs, etc.).
Everything in the game is now part-ninja. At least mages are not flipping around with spin-kicks as they counter balance on the staff (Matrix 3). That would have been really lame.

I'm loving the armor design for the mage. The demo has me wanting to play as a mage during my first playthrough.
Which one? The actual armor as seen on the character selection screen or the robes? Compare some of the screen pics to those from DAO of the robes and you will see what we mean. The armor on the other hand does look good.

I pray that placing AoE spells works better in the full game. Had to find a tiny free spot in a mass of Darkspawn several times to place my AoE, because I couldn't just throw it on top of a mob.
I found it easiest to actually run into the mob, and then turn around and drop the silly thing right at my own feet, and then run back out. I agree the targeting was terribly done for the demo, but that is a very very easy fix. I am sure they already have it fixed.

Aveline: Hawke...... we need a fireball now!!!!!!
Hawke:(nose firmly in book) hush woman I'm reading.
Not the most exciting game......
More exciting but much less cerebral. I see little tactics in this game, just
hack&slash&blast with near infinite reserves. That can be fun too, but DAO was a Fantasy Tactical RPG and DA2 is a Super-Hero Action 1/2 RPG (no non-combat skills = 1/2). Totally different games under the same title which was quite a shock to the system. Some will adjust, some will not. The sales numbers will tell the story providing they do not artificially inflate them by dumping the game at 1/2 price one month after launch like another game company (right before Christmas - no it was not EA or Bioware). It is not enough to say it outsells DAO since Japan is now an open market, but if it hits +1.5M in sales over DAO we should expect all Bioware games to be like this from now on. It is just good business.

Oh man those beige robes look sweet. Star Forge Robe, anyone?
Wow, good catch! I knew they looked familiar. Wow, with Force Mage, they had better watch themselves. Lucas Arts is probably watching...
