As for the DPS of Flame Blast, if you've been following my posts then you saw that I questioned the wisdom of getting in an enemy's face and blowing fire on them with no CC and certainly not enough damage to take their health down enough to kill them. So you gain aggro and get very little in return. Use it to follow up Cone of Cold- why, when your melee fighters could eliminate those enemies in the time it takes for them to unfreeze?
If you find them useful, whatever. Useless IMO. Fireball was the only useful spell in that line. Both Firestorm and the new Fireball are low mana cost, versatile and still do damage. I'll take it.
Glyph of Repulsion baby! As a solo NM mage I had all of the cone spells and they were all effective. You just have to know how to use them propery. Plus fire is great against undead.

So in other words you played nightmare potion spaming your way to an easy I win senario and that was tactical how. Lets see, stacks of healing potions of varying strength, poison potion stacking = yawn.Ramza_1 wrote...
Healing mages are for wimps. I played nightmare mode origins with no mages whatsoever except when they were forced on me. Plus healing is boring.
edit
I will miss two specialisations, Arcane Warrior and Shape shifter (these were a lot of fun), used the arcane warrior more like a Cleric build.. both of those 2 specialisations were hell lot more fun then blood mage. Blood magic was forgetable, still is to me. Spirit Healer yes, Force Mage will have to wait and see. Can't say I like what I see overall.

Yeah. Like I've said numerous times now, "unless they're fixed somewhere". And some posts back in this discussion I said one of the times when Inferno was useful is if you could lock them in a room with Glyph of Repulsion or fix them with Paralysis Explosion. A glyph has pretty short duration, however. The clock is ticking while you spin your arms in the air casting Inferno.Grumpy Old Wizard wrote...

Regardless, the point is that the new spells are more versatile and useful.

I have a similar view. I will only miss Arcane Warrior for the ability to wear niftier looking armor and better weapons. I will miss Shapeshifter the most because I had the most fun with the specialization; there was just something gratifying about it. All that we have left are two specializations I found to be lacking and one mystery. I disliked Blood Mage for lore reasons and I don't think it's practical in video game to fuel magic through hit-points. My problem with Spirit Healer is I cannot play a Healer, I just cannot. Force Mage does intrigue me though.
I do hope that later down the line we get more. Whether if it is from an expansion or DLC, I will not care. I am not going to hold out for this though. More than likely, I will have to wait and see what DA3 will offer for mages which will probably include Blood Mage and Spirit Healer again. This, of course, is just a point of mild disappointment that will not stop my purchase of DA2.

Why did they take out Arcane Warrior?!
Probably the same reason they took out DW and Archery for warrior, making them exclusive to Rogues.
Also Mages just don't really need it any more as the can melee now, and there are no more class restrictions on equipment. .

But is there anything similar to Animate Dead in this game? I'd expect it to be in the Spirit portion along with Walking Bomb, Death Syphon, and all the other Spirit spells that were prerequesits to Animate Dead in DA:O. I'd love to play as a legit Necromancer. Hell the first post in this thread was mentioning Mages being able to raise the dead.

I think Fenris was given the Arcane Warrior spec lol
Though, it makes more sense, since that was more or less a tank class. . . for a Mage, and it made no sense.
And no, I won't give up my position of wanting a real Spellsword / Battlemage spec for DA2 o 3o

I can rip straight through the demo with a mage and only snafu I keep getting is Carver dies in the fight against the Ogre but after that, he's fine. I think it's because for some reason, he level's slower then Bethany? Cuz even though, Bethany is gonna be the to die when we face the Ogre, she still gets to level while he does not.

I want me some Shapeshifting. Shapeshifters are an iconic mage tree in the DA world thanks to Flemeth and Morrigan. Plus, I'd love to see how the animal forms would work in combat in DA2.

I wouldn't mind AW or Battlemage but I thought Shapeshifter was useless, it was more of a cool idea then anything. I'm just there BM, oh yeah, though with FF in nightmare, I don't know if the blood wound spell will be as useful this time around, lolz. Probably just get everyone, including the mage killed. OPPS.

I would like to see shapeshifting done well - in DA:O it was quite useless in vanilla.
