Agreed.I don't want to spend my whole time wearing robes so I hope they have some sort of mixture between a robe and armor.I.leary wrote...
Will mage outfits be mostly restricted to robes? The one from the Kirkwall part in the demo looks cool, but I'd really love to wear armor-like badass outfits such as the one you start the game with.

Hum... I hope my penchant for armor won't ruin my build...

As poeple know who read the Warrior class discussion thread, I usually play warriors in fantasy games (and heavy gunners in shoter, etc). Whiel I appreciate having a mage with me for healing or (essentailly) artillery, I usually prefer having the weapon in my hand, wading in and smacking people around.
However, Dragon Age 2 has changed my opinion. As usual, I first played through with a warrior and had a great time, but along the way I would take over one of the party NPC mages (Merrill, Bethany, etc) and use them when needed in battle (or when my warrior died). They were much more fun to play than I was expecting. Sure, you can still rely on your party mahges for healing or support, etc but actually being the mage, selecting what spells I wanted, not to mention the much better mage outfits in DA2 made them a much more enjoyable experience than I was expecting.
Don't get me wrong, I still loves me my 2 handed berzerker warrior, but mages kick a lot of buttock in DA2. They also set them on fire, freeze them in place, rip them apart, etc.
Speaking of outfits, are we stuck with mostly robes, or can we get something more armor like, similar to what poster hawke looks like?

"Blood Mage: Nothing inspires as much wild-eyed terror as the Blood Mage. Mages of this type take the raw energy of life and twist it to their own purposes. They can corrupt and control, and sustain their power by consuming the health of others, willing or not. The effects can be vile, but this specialization isn’t limited to madmen and monsters. Many see it as the only form of magic that is truly free, because it’s tied to the physical, not favors to spirits or demons. It remains an undeniably violent and self-destructive discipline, however, and the Blood Mage must be careful. The temptation to take just a little more is always there."
I'm so happy right now.. I think I may cry..

Strength would be a waste as Mages have no use for it if the staffs melee damage is based off of the magic attribute.Con would be more useful for the armor.I was hoping they would be based off of magic as that's what I'll focus on first.Morroian wrote...

Strength also increases Fortitude (ability to resist knockback/knockdown)... so it's not entirely worthless. If your mage wishes for better defense, it's a good option.Black-Xero wrote...

Considering Hawke's an apostate, it would make sense, lore-wise, that he wears something more discreet to hide his presence in Kirkwall. Didn't those apostates in Amaranthine (Out of Control quest in Awakening) wear normal clothing as well? Or maybe my memory's just failing...

You have barely 3/4 of number of spells now, not counting upgrades, compared to Origins. And even those are barely half as powerful, with longer cooldowns to boot.
Is it the difference between an Apostate and Circle Mage? Where can I sign up for Harrowing in that case, as joining the Circle will surely provide me with better education?
On a related note. Did you notice how small in number and weak in effect are support spells? Or was it just the demo thing that Elemental Weapons on Lvl 6 only gave +4 additional damage to 70 already there?

hahahaha lol MY POINT TO THE LETTER . i really do not like how its a unwritten law that all mages must wear robes they look stupid i dont even like the idea of the staff ?? why is it if your a magic user you need a giant staff which lets face it is just a large MAGIC WAND . i want a powerfull mage who bears armour and a god dam blade like the amazing ARCANE WARRIOR which is no longer present

Several spells in DAO were simply upgrades on lesser spells, many spells were useless.LexXxich wrote...
