Archer, always loved the ranged classes and the archer is just godly now.

Mage! Because I had such fun playing that class in the demo. Plus, I'm curious about how Hawke being an apostate will have an effect on the story.

2HW first run, because that's what I always start with. (except in DA:O had to go with DWW because two handed was sooooo dang slow)

It's a tough choice for me.
My least favourite class is rogue. Just having 2 inch daggers non-stop slashing while doing acrobatics is not what i think of when the word "Chamption" is mentioned. Also, i just don't enjoy playing them.
The classes i'm tossing between is 2H warrior and Mage. The 2H warrior because the gameplay is the most fun out of all of them. Slashing multiple foes at the same time, and with the new targeting system is boss. Not to mention Hawke looks absolutely badass with that sword.
But then there's mage. This one has the most story potential, and i'm a sucker for the story. I dislike standing back throwing spells, it gets very boring. If there was someway to make the mage melee without dieing because of such low HP, it might be a different story.
So at the moment, i'm deciding between a better story (mage) or better gameplay (2H warrior).

I'm thinking rogue. They are just so damn fast. And I'd like to keep Bethany. Then perhaps I'll play as a mage during my second playthrough...and eventually maybe a warrior.

Unless the game is a severe disappointment I'll have a playthrough of each eventually, but as for the 1st playthrough either a 2h warrior or a mage...might be forced to flip a coin in the end

(Blood) Mage, because I love that class in pretty much every game it's available. Also, in DA II being a mage might have a significant impact on the story/dialogues, so yeah...
Though I'll also make a Warrior pt...maybe even one as a Rogue later on, too.

Anyway I fully intend to play all three, but I'll probably start with a 2h warrior. Reason being I want Isabella and the dwarf in my party, and another rogue would be too much.
I have little interest in mages.

I leaning very strongly towards a Rogue Archer, they have enormous damage potential.
Other than that Dual-wield rogue is pretty cool too.
I wonder if there will be enough points to allocate one or two to dual-wield to get back stab etc.
And then the rest in Archer and specialist tree.
Two handed warrior was impossible weak in the demo, I literally hacked for ages taking down foes on the basic attack.
Compared to the basic Archer attack which kills in three hits against normal enemy it was pathetic.
You'd figure two handed would be the most powerful, but alas no.
Also the 2h seems to have very little attack options.
Basically mighty, scythe and whirlwind.
I might go Mage, they seem to kick-ass.
So as for now it is Rogue Archer or mage, perhaps DW Rogue.
Anyone else notice that there is an abundance of "Rogue" companion characters in DA2.
Sebastian an Archer so is Varric, then you have Isabella.
I have no idea what Fenris is, but he seems rogue, but I guess he`s a mage?
Tl;dr
I love the archer in this game, powerful as hell.
The absolute best would be Rogue Archer with a little DW tossed in, if enough points.

Well, sooner or later I hope to try all classes and specs.
So far I have tried out all but archer in the demo, and based on that my prioritized playthroughs are:
1) Female 2-handed warrior: I loved warriors in DA:O, and so far 2-handed seems awesome to my preferred playstyle. Also although I'll play with the character generator, I really love the look of the female Hawke, so she will must likely be my first (playthrough that is
)
2) Male mage: Mages look to be quite nice this time around (can't seem to be bothered with them in DA:O), so a powerhungry mage with a chip on his shoulders sound like a cool second playthrough
3) Male Sword and shield warrior: Again, love warriors, so this one will most likely be the one I try out nightmare on (I find the toughest difficulty levels easiest to learn with a tank character).
4) Female rogue dualwield: Never really liked rogues, nd I've never been able to complete DA:O with one, but here's to hoping DA2 proves otherwise.
Where the rogue archer fits in, time will tell.

I will be a rogue and then a mage... both are my favorite classes
Later I might consider to make a playthrough as a warrior as well. I liked what I've seen so far, so I think in the end, I will try all classes

I'm going to play as a Lady Hawke warrior tank. For whatever reason I enjoy playing female tanks in any game that allows it. Then I'll probably have Varric, Merril and Fenris in my group.

I tried other classes in DAO but stuck mostly to sword&board. The lumbering combat seemed to fit best for warriors rather than playing a heavy shuffling rogue or a pewpew mage. DA2 however has totally reversed my opinion about the classes. I doubt I'll even do a playthrough with sword&board when 2hander looks so fantastic but I'm most impressed with rogue and mage. I thought I'd play a rogue and look after my sis but after the demo I've gotten rather fond of Carver, he felt like the stronger personality of the two - so my first playthrough shall be as a mage.

Does the combat work the same in DA:O as in DA 2?

Posté 25 février 2011 - 01:36
It's one hard choice, for me it's going to be either a mage or a 2H warrior. In DA:O I wanted to play as a mage, but it wasn't satisfying...at all, warriors were much better, and I'm not into rogues :/
So yeah, I think I'll go with mage at least on my first playthrough especially for the story.

Definitely going mage my first play-through. My favorite class in DAO to play was rogue with DW but I ended up playing my ideal play-through as a mage because being a mage just had a great story (especially an Elf mage). They've really cleaned up this class though. Loving the AOE attacks and how they down blind you by taking up the entire screen so you cant see what's happening. Also the mage in DA2 seems like Hawke's default from the trailers and for good reason. I would like to keep Bethany but I definitely plan on playing this multiple times with each class (and probably each class with different specializations since it looks like they're actually different styles this time instead of a few spells that you really don't use).
Anyway, 1st will be either Force or Blood Mage. I will go back to play the other one but they both sound so overpowered and after reading the description on Force Mage they really sound intense.
2nd will be DW Rogue and not sure what specialization until BioWare tells us more on them.
3rd will be 2H Warrior and probably Berserker. Was not a fan of Warriors at all in DAO because if you allocated points correctly you could have a Rogue DW swords and wearing the heaviest plate armor and able to pick locks. I was not too impressed by the Warrior in the demo and seeing as how you get Fenris and he is possibly the most bad**** warrior they have ever made, I don't see much incentive to play a Warrior.
Also as to the below: there is an equal breakdown of classes for comanions:
Rogue - Isabela DW, Varric Archer, Sebastian Archer
Mage - Merrill, Anders Spirit Healer, Bethany
Warrior - Aveline S&S, Fenris 2H, Carver 2H
This does fluctuate slightly depending on your class choice. If you are a Mage, you replace Bethany. If you are Rogue or Warrior, you replace Carver. The Rogue choice does grant you more rogues since you will have 4 Rogues, 3 Warriors and 2 Mages, but other than that if you are a Warrior or Mage the breakdown is even. Hope that helps.

Rogue archer I think. It was very fun in the demo. Much better than in Origins.
