Does anyone WANT Dragon Age to be more action oriented?

If they could keep the dialogue and story elements, the vast selection of skills and spells, and combine that with more action in the style of Devil May Cry, that would be ideal. I don't see how excellent combat hampers rpgs...

Anything's better than Origins. Combat in Origins was as exciting as playing chess which isn't good if you're trying to market your game as dark, violent and sexy.

Chess isn't dark. Chess isn't violent. And chess is most certainly not sexy.

I like where DA2's combat is at, its basically a more fluid DAO combat system. It certainly isnt hack n slash as some ill-informed people claim.

Not keen on the ninja cartwheeling rogues but i can live with it.

My days of FPS twitch games are behind me, loved DAO but it did need refinements.

No. I played the demo, then I cancelled my pre-order with Amazon. They took an RPG and turned it into Diablo. I'm not going to pay 80 Euros for that, sorry Bioware. If this is what EA wants you to make, good luck, it's been fun while it lasted. The Bioware logo used to be pretty much a guarantee that I could buy the game bearing it blindly, but now it looks more like the BW logo is going to mean "better be careful" from now on.

If I wanted to play a Diablo clone, I'd bloody well buy one.

There are plenty of action-y single-character rpgs: Oblivion, Fallout 3+NV, Witcher 1+2, Fable etc. Dragon Age is one of the last party-based rpgs. No thanks.

you know, i would prefere to have the best of both worlds, ME is one of Biowares biggest IPs and if you ask me it was a better game than origins in many ways, just because something is intense and engaging doesn't mean it has been dummed down, Origins was far to slow for my taste i liked the depth of combat but the pacing was unbearable.

People seem to be under the assumption that something has to be only an action game, or only an RPG, or only a shooter. Good elements from games are not genre exclusive.

I am an "old-school RPG fan." I'm fine with increasing the pace of combat and the changes that they've made thus far, but actually going to GoW land is a bit much. That's almost purely action, which is not quite what I'm looking for in an RPG. I want a strong story in which I can influence events or certain outcomes, interesting characters, good dialogue, and some form of attributes/skills (EDIT: plus assorted quests and sidequests since I forgot to list those). That being said, I have nothing against GoW or introducing more action-like gameplay vis-a-vis ME2 (I like ME2 after all). I mean, I love games like Batman: Arkham Asylum too.

If I wanted to play an action-oriented game, I would go play an action-oriented series. I played Dragon Age for what it was, and that was what I was expecting from a sequel.

It irks me how nowadays nearly every criticism I see of a new series essentially boils down to "this game isn't for me, you need to make it for me."

If I had to describe this gaming generation in one word, it would be "entitlement."

Tbh, i didn't play this game for the action, or the tactics, i played the game because i felt compelled to find out what would happen next in the story.

My second playthrough, i played it more for the action, and tactics can get tedious if you have to constantly pause and play, but thats just my opinion, everyone plays differently.

No, I want more dialog and a good story, less action.

I disagree. Diablo is an action game with RPG elements. It has no story to speak of. It has no memorable characters. It's all about klicking to death wave after wave after wave of monsters/baddies/whatnot.

I think that Bioware can take their game in the direction that they think that will be better (plus commands from EA that could exist), be it for artistic point of view, karma or because in the very end they must work for money. No matter what they choose there is going to be dissapointed people so I only ask for good games.
Maybe DA 3 will play as War of the Lions. :o:o:D Most probably will follow a similar route to Mass Effect 3 (much like DA 2 seems to follow the steps of ME 2) and whichever experiences they learn from Dragon Age 2.

Your critising the game for not being for you, then critisising other people for being entitled

I like the demo, the changes made from DA:O have been only good. I didn't like the action in DA:O too much. In this one it seemed great.

A part of me does, just to see these old school RPG farts cry moar and moar.
:P

The other part doesn't. Dragon Age would lose it's appeal to me if all the RPG elements were stripped and became another God of War clone. My action games see the most dust on my game shelf, I don't want to see Dragon Age in the same spot.
:?

I don't. Too many action RPGs out there already and not enough true RPGs.

Based on occasional lurking around here, it seems like a lot of the people here are very much old school RPG fans. Because of this, the perception seems to be that the new Dragon Age will be terrible simply because it will be faster paced, leading people to assume that it will be a dumbed down hack and slasher.

Do you know the terrible truth? Many of those who call themselves old RPGers think that an rpg can be done only in a way. They elect themselves as the beares of the banner of the true-and-only-rpg. Reality is that rpg is a large concept and there's no absolute right or wrong way to do one until you remain between the (very large) limits imposed by the word.

Still they think nothing must be changed and there are fixed rules to abide to and all that do so are streamlining the experience. Same as those that in real life says "the truth is this or that". So they try to keep the status quo intact with all the force they have. They neither watch things objectively, just what they want to see, and what they want to see is only what they are used to. If something is changed in the rules they like so much then it is the fault of the "action boys" dumbing down their experience.

All of this being said by one that considered himself an old rpger sometime ago. Now that word has become distasteful to me. I consider Ultima games some of the best RPGs ever made. Yet when BG came along with its real-time plus pause I had not problem liking the system for what it was, either if many of those same old RPGers said it was the end of "true" rpgs. When DAO came along I had no problems with the changes it brought to the formula of BG. Now that DA2 has come I have no problem seeing it for what it is instead of what I want it to be, either against objective good points, just because I must have a fixed notion decided by a standard of truth's elected players.

Naturally there are things I can prefer over others but I'm not biased on way or another and I always try to judge things fairly, without prejudice, knowing perfectly that not all things must be the same to be good.

I was perfectly happy to crank the difficulty to easy and forget about the combat for other BioWare games and experiance the story. Now the gameplay is good too, so I get my perfect game...
