For me Redcliffe was a disaster on Alistair rep. At least 3 or 4 times I took very significant rep losses with him. And I truly felt I was doing 'the right thing' each time, which is how I choose to RP my character for the first play through.

I think that is why I dislike Alistair. To have made decisions that kept him happy I would have to have been *too* goodie goodie, to the point of not being pragmatic.

Alistair is very inflexible on certain issues, and if you dare do something against those beliefs you are done for.

It didn't help that I don't think I passed a single persuade check in the entire game :( Mages just don't have the cunning to do it.

I don't think I pissed anyone off at Redcliffe.  You just make the choices so no one dies!  It seemed the right thing to do to me, but then again, everyone's opinions are different.
I also found him to be less and less whiney and the game went on.  Almost leading at times!  Maybe that just depends on certain choices you make... idk.

Yes, you can.  I'm a mage and was able to pass every persuade option there was available that I chose.  You just have to take the persuade  skills when they're available.  Hell, you don't even need many points in cunning to max the skill out.  Once you have that maxed out you don't need to bother with cunning any more and to max it out I think you only have to get to either 16 or 18 cunning.

So, come on... Alistair, marry me!

This character has to be the best character I've experienced in a game so far!  David Gaider, you are a rockstar.  I've no idea how you can roll adorable, cute, sexy, clumsy, handsome, and hilarious all into one character but you did... and I want to give you the -biggest- hug for it!

I can't help but to say... I'm so going to be writing a massive fanfiction for this character (dependant on a particular ending of course, but no spoilers here :) ).

Thanks so much again BioWare... I now want to have pixelated babies with the ever so sexy and adorable Alistair <3 ~

Same here, I put some points in cunning so that my mage could take the persuasive skills and most of the time people listen to her.

as a 33 yr old hetero male with absolutely no attraction to guys in any way shape or form...I support this.

I'm playing a female mage for my second playthrough and she's goin after ol' Al...and I must say Bio did his character extremely well...a lot of the romance dialogue is just flat out great...I can see why there's a cry for gay relations with him lol

I only read the first few pages, but I want to echo what some of the guys were saying. Now I'm not going to say ALL women are like this, but just about every girl I met goes for the bad boy that treats them bad, while the good guys get stepped on, used, ignored, taken advantage of, etc. The girl will tell the nice guy "you are a good friend" as she goes and parties with the guy that does drugs, doesn't respect her, and probably slaps her around. All the while the good guy is left to sit in the corner and wonder why nobody wants to talk to him or be anything other than "a good friend".

As for Alistair, I'll be using him in my mage playthrough, though my current playthrough is me as a tank, so I don't use him.

Wow.. really?

I'm a woman and I don't recognise any of this neither in me nor in any other woman I know.

After hearing this much crap about women only wanting ****s, I'll say that it's an excuse from your guys to not try to be nice.

When I was growing up, I was unhappy over the fact that most guys/men were egoistical bastards, and was very surprised to have found several nice out there. One of them I have fallen in love with and we've been together ever since.

What women want is a man who knows what he wants and is secure in himself. And you don't have to be an ass to be that. If by nice you mean a naive idiot, then of course they will get used by some women out there. A real man, who is strong and have self respect, is not afraid of strong women, and is a man enough to treat them (and everyone else for that matter) with respect. A man like that will not allow anyone to take advantage of himself or to be stepped on, but will not take advantage of anyone either and has no need to prove himself by stepping on others. This is a man that I want (and most women will agree with me). I don't see how guys can be so blind to not see that.

Interesting take there.

My experience?  Women say they want one thing but emotionally desire the opposite.  Thats why when I ask my female friends what they look for in a man, the top 3 is generally this:

1. funny/humorous
2. genuinely nice/gentleman
3. passionate/loving

Now comes the good part, my next question is: Can you describe the character traits of your last 3 boyfriends?  The answers:

1. selfish/arrogant
2. inconsiderate
3. disrespectful

As you can see, when you get to the heart of this matter things become more clear.  You must look at a woman's behavior and actions to get to the truth, not their words.

I have no idea how this topic evolved to talking about real life relationships....a little bizarre if you ask me.  And as far as saying that a lot of women go for the bad boy well that is just plain silly.  You must have limited experience with woman to think this.  I have a wonderful man as do many ladies out there who do not enjoy being treated bad.  If you with a mature person they should not take advantage of you and be kind to you.  You are hanging around the wrong type of people if these girls only go for "bad boys".  Enough of that the original topic was regarding Allistair, he still hates me in game and I just think  it is funny, I could care less if he likes me....LOL

Wow. Who know so many of you had issues? ;)

But actually on topic, Alistair is my pixel boyfriend. Luckily, my husband is a good guy and not jealous of people who, well, don't exist. Doesn't stop me from swooning and giggling and grinning like a moron though.

Well, for one thing he definitely is the best acted NPC I've heard in a long time. Truly remarkable.

Secondly, he is definitely a very likeable character, a fully three dimensional character with a strong moral compass.

So, yeah, he's great. :)

Sage advice there.  It's funny how you have to have been in a true relationship before you know what to look for in a partner.

RAWR hands off - Alistair is mine!!!!!!!!!!!!  <_<

OMG I totally agree though with all the sentiments here, Alistair is the best character in an RPG, since Martin in Oblivion (no romance options there though, darn).

My heart actually beats faster, when he steps forward, leans in and kisses my character hahahaha <3 phew, I need a live. lmao

Alistair is a great character, and probably the best romance option out there untill now. The only gripe I have about this situation is the fact that the female PC gets to choose between a virgin and a  "prostitute"-type (if you'll excuse this blatantness).

He is nice and funny, and is not a stuffy paladin, isn't whiney, and doesn't have trust issues... oh and doesn't follow you around like a wide-eyed puppy (some of the romance options in other games)...

With the animations and the great acting he does feel like a real person with feelings. And yes, I like watching the kissing scenes. Being a rper who also plays relationships online, I've learned not to connect my personal felings to the feelings of my characters. So no, I'm not jumping on the "I heart Alistair - hope he was real" wagon. But I do think he was a great NPC, and an enjoyable romance option.

Alistair is my favourite male character in the party. He's really cool, and I love how they've portrayed his britishisms fairly well. Being a guy from UK myself, I could relate to many of his insights/inflections, etc. I prefer to play a good person with strong morals, so he's always in my party.

Anyway, what would have been cool to see would be inter-party romances. I would love to have seen Leliana and Alistair hit it off. They're both perfect for each other. Hmm, even Sten and Morrigan would have maybe worked out quite well.

Alistair is awesome and it is amazing how loveable, sexy, funny and noble the writers made him - the relationship my character has with him went a loong way to immersing me totally into the game. Never have I been this into a game. Bioware did a great job!

I'm amused by all the people complaining he's whiny and hates them...When they go and say they made the most practical decisions in Redcliffe....Yes, you just had the only thing he considers he has as *family* left, killed. Of Course he's going to be bitter and annoying.

I lost rep with him the first time, then went and redid that quest and hey, I lost no rep and he's hasn't whinged at me once. Sarc comments for sure. But that's just his nature.

Its and RPG, you made those choices, you *know* what his damn alignment is, stop ****ing cause he disagree's with you.

As for all the passive aggressive 'nice guy' comments. Yeah, your the bad kind of nice guy. So you keep metting the wrong type of girl repeatedly and getting your heart broken? Then stop meeting the same type of women!

Try getting to know a person for their mind, not just hitting on her for their hot bod and then being bitterly disappointed when you have nothing in common and they dump your arse.
