He obviously didn't care for DA:O.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. No need to cry because he didn't like DA:O.

Okay. He's had enough. You don't have to beat him to a bloody pulp.

The problem ultimately is not with this guy.  All he's doing is a ******-poor job of trying to describe the overall art direction that Bioware took with DA2.

The real problem is that what he is describing:

(A) Are not issues I personally had with DA:O
(B) Are "solutions" that sound like they are the exact OPPOSITE of what I want in DA2

I want immersive environments with lots of ancillary details.  I want different locations within the game to LOOK DIFFERENT.  I don't want to control Hawke on the moon, I want to play him on the earth.

I want to watch this video, but the Bioware rep is a nut job.

Uh, yes, actually, I DO want different parts of the game to look different. I want the forests to look green and the Deep Roads to look dark. And yes, I DO notice books scattered on the floor of the Circle library.

Really, if this guy is a marketing person, then I hesitate to think about what goes on behind closed doors.

David Silverman is not representative of Bioware as a whole- though it's supposed to be his freaking job.
It's pretty much better to ignore him entirely, and watch the interviews Mike Laidlaw does.

Your defense of this guy is that he's not truly a representitive of Bioware, even though he actually is?  What?

He's supposed to be the "Worldwide Director of Marketing" or some such. But every time he shows up, he makes the game look bad. He did the exact same BS with DA:O, not just this game. The devs themselves do a better job of showing off the game and selling it than he does.

So removing nuances that make the game more immersive is... a good thing?

My favorite part is when he says Origins environments were bad because they didn't all look the same. I mean, who the hell wants a forest to be green and the deep roads to be dark and brown/red (the color of rocks)? They should all be consistent! So we made everything brown and red <.<

I now fully understand why Bioware sucks at marketing.

Drinking game idea:

-take one shot each time he says "right"

-take one shot each time he says "like"

-take one shot each time he says "you know"

-if all three terms are strung together, take an extra shot at the end

-take one shot each time he criticizes something from DA:O for being too niche

-take one shot each time you hear him slur his speech

-take one shot every time you facepalm

let's see how far everyone makes it!

Finally. Please God, can we excise the adjective "badass" from videogame descriptions? Unless we really are only marketing to teen boys now-- who no doubt have some other slang word by now, leaving "badass" in the dustbin along with "extreme" "cool" "hip" and "the bee's knees".

Can we throw out "epic" while we're at it?

"State of the world" Option.

Didn't even see that in the demo, this is promising.

This also gives me hope for a mod which allows you to edit it at will. I mean sure I've played origins dozens of times, but still there's always choices you'd like slightly different for DA2, without having to fully replay DAO again.

EDIT: Oh and to be honest, the guy says "right" too much, right?

As a sidenote, I would like to say that I feel the marketing for DA2 so far has been better than what they did with DA1. I almost didn't buy the first game because of the horrible marketing that was continuously giving the impression that the game was about nothing more than sex , violence and loud, far too modern music. Then I played it after all because it was Bioware and discovered a thoughtful, deep, sweeping experience that was nothing at all like the crap the marketing was showing. Mike Laidlaw is doing a great job right now... This Silverman guy, not so much, but I think people here are blowing it out of proportion, to be honest.

I liked the books in the circle tower, as well as the details on the walls in the deep roads. I immediatly noticed that while DA2 looked pretty it lacked details. Many games have both details and look pretty, and DA doesnt even have big areas. I think it is an excuse to drop details and being able to create more content more quickly so they could finish it so soon. A shame, I can only imagine how amazing a Bioware game could be if they spend 5 years on it like Bethesda.

Wow, not a fan of this interviewer. Wanting to "teach the naysayers"? So other people can't just have diffrent opinions? You want to defend the things you like, cool. But don't run down others for having diffrent perspective.

You know, it always depends if that "opinion" is based on a personal bias or on objective factors. Not all opinions are good on principle as not all acts are pervaded by heroism.

There's nothing wrong in theory (in practice in many case yes, but this is another story) with disliking something. A different thing it's however when one want to dislike something based on preconceptions on what must be good, or trying to pretend there are objective reasons why it is so where there are obviously none, or the evidence posed is faulted from the start by lack of knowledge on the matter at hand.

You can also not like Caravaggio, for example. You could say it's a matter of taste. Another thing would be saying he is not good because you will only show the lack of competence you have on argument. You either demonstrate the same not liking him, for me, but at last in this case you don't try to shield your incompetence with evidence you don't possess.

Wait, he just called everyone who was using pause nerds.
He was literaly bashing everything in Origins. Brecilian forest and Deep Roads should have same color? Realy?
And does he realy need to say "when you press a button something awesome happens" in every damn interview?!
My reaction to this interviewer:

I'm sorry, no. I had to mute it and skip forward to look at the gameplay. Public drunkenness is super gross, and those dudes were just making a spectacle of themselves.

Since he's in charge of marketing and not design, I hope he just flubbed some of the points he wanted to make about what the actual devs told him. Given that I fully expected him to fall over and start giggling at some points, I wouldn't be surprised.

Oddly enough the main thing that concerns me about DA2 is the environment, yes DAO wasn't the best looking game around but the varied environments made the world seem big, and the detail (like books in a library) made it feel lived in. From whats been shown in DA2 so far the environments lack detail and look bland, espically around Kirkwall the same light brown walls and empty streets, which is worring considering most of the game takes place in Kirkwall; but I'm hopeing thats just down to a bad choice in videos/marketing etc.

Just look at the new gameplay trailer of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the environments look amazing, and full of detail, I know DA2 compromises graphics in sake of things like characters, plot etc, but still so far from whats been shown DAO had more detail then DA2 does.

What an awful interview

Yeah... not one of the best interviews I've seen lately.  Honestly, if he said "like" one more time, I think I would have to scream.

Still, some of the comments that he made about importing your previous game was nice to hear as I played DA:O with 2 different wardens each with largly different outcomes.
