I'll tell you what I did to 'fix' it.
After a couple of days of frustration I've found a way to login to these accounts with some connection to my old bioware account.

Trying to use those account details on these forums took me to the Personal Info screen requiring 'additional fields to proceed'. On attempting to go to the next page it tells me the email address is already registered and will not allow me to proceed further.

I tried numerous things over the last 2 days (including trying and failing to reset password - no email ever received) but the steps below I believe are what did it.

1 - login to my existing bioware account from biowares main website 
2 - go to "Home >> My Account >> Edit Details >> EA Account Setup"
use the link "Sign up for one" to go to EA's website and create a new EA account with
a) a new email address
a new username
c) a new password
3 - login to this bioware social Network site with the new EA details created in step 2.
I was taken to a screen which is the one *after* the Personal Info screen, i.e. the profile Setup page.
Bizarrely, it displayed my Bioware account screenname and not the EA screen name I had created on the EA page.

I am now able to login to this site using the EA details that have somehow linked to my bioware screen name.

So maybe this page in step 2 will help link any accounts you have tried to create.

The only possible issue is that I havent got my game through the post yet so I dont know what, if any, problems I'll encounter with registration at that stage.

May I bump this as well as I was just having the exact same problem and it gave me an idea to try and fix it.

I did it somewhat differently:
1. Changed e-mail of my current EA account.
2. Tried to log back in here with the new e-mail.
3. Instead of asking for "additional fields to proceed" this time I was taken to the profile Setup page where I could input username etc.
4. Logged out and went to EA account page to change my e-mail back to the one I was having problems with.
5. Logged back in here with that e-mail and it just logged in normally.

Awesome, thanks! Worked for me too. Was growing a baldspot, but it should recover in a few months.
