Only way to use a longsword is as a sword and shield warrior.

Rogues can use dual daggers and bows.
Warriors can use weapons and shield (this includes swords, maces, and axes that I know of) and two-handed weapons (greatswords, greataxes, and mauls).

Well damn, I was hoping to not have to necessarily be a tank if I was a warrior. Would the character's speed increase if I only equipped a sword, without a shield?

You don't have to be a tank if you have a shield (and you always will if you have a one-handed weapon equipped-a shield appears on you). Take offensive weapon and shield talents and take other warrior talents from trees such as Vanguard (offense focused tree).

1) It's impossible to do a longsword without the shield. That's how the game works.vagrantwanderer wrote...

2) You don't have to be a tank for being sword and shield. Warrior has enough variety you could try for crowd control or even damage with it, but you'd be somewhat weaker at it than a two-hander warrior.

I guess he had trouble taking down the Ogre.I also had trouble with it when I played as a Rogue....that was the only time I died.I didn't use any sort of strategy though.I beat the entire demo just by pressing the attack button and spamming spells with my Mage and was able to easily get through it.iOnlySignIn wrote...

1) Has that been confirmed? It's is an assumption from the beta, it's flawed, since our options were given to us as a workaround for not having access to the inventory system.
2) Very true. As I understood it, you'd mostly be lacking on the AoE front.

Yes, it's confirmed. It has nothing to do with the demo. Developers stated that if you equipped a longsword or shield by themselves, you'd be given a generic shield or longsword for the other hand. Partially so they don't have to do the animate the other cases. Not their exact words, mind you. If you suspect I've misinterpreted, feel free to disbelieve.Berkilak wrote...

Yeah, thats what put me off about the rogue a bit. I played through DAO with a rogue that was more of a tank than any of my other players, and I took down Flemeth on my own, despite my party falling. I'm not really excited about the Artwork of the game as I thought I would be either, but I hope the character customization changes my mind.

Yes, I know this is what many people are thinking right now. I wanted to be a rogue, like when I was playing DAO, but I played the demo, and rogues cannot seem to take out bosses directly (at least not with the crappy daggers it gave us), I know I probably will not be a mage, since I never got used to using spells. I think It mainly comes down to weapons, will Rogues be able to use longswords and axes like in DAO ? I might try my hand at a single longsword. On the other hand, I will be pissed If I find out that I cannot wear the coolest armor in the game. Any thoughts?

I don't understand this... I had the easiest time beating bosses when I was a rogue... they do the most damage one on one. This is why I am thinking of forgetting the warrior and playing as a rogue instead.
