Not sure if the main game will feel the same but from the demo it seemed mages and healing were alot less powerful . I loved DAO but i will be glad if your not healing with a mage as often , and the rest of the party contributes as much as a mage. All the classes seemed great from the demo , even archery was fun , the first time i used pinning shot i chuckled .

maybe you could even not have a healing mage and it not be a critical part of DA2.

Healing is more powerful, for individual heals anyway. It's just a lot longer cooldowns. So less spamming.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the other classes.

I think DAII will rely more on avoiding damage, and less on healing it. Not a bad change in my opinion.

I think the game seems more party-focused than Origins was in tough fights. And with a 60 second cooldown on Heal, your definately right that we won't be doing it as often. I think mages are still very powerful, but they seem more on the same level as the other classes.

It does look like tactics will not be about having a dedicated healer. Which is great, because that crap needs to go. No one likes it when they have to play the healer, and we only put up with it in BioWare games because we are playing multiple characters.

However, it does mean that we are going to have to be more active with our controller strategies.

Yeah i like how u can avoid damage in DA2. I loved how in DA:O i could run around a corner 20 feet away from the ogres smash and id still get hit.

Archery is indeed much more fun and powerful in the demo. Good dps, nice bit of aoe, and the range, evade and stunning flask provide enough survivibility. Dual-wielding on the other hand seems relatively unremarkable.

thats what im hoping , and definetly was the case in the demo . Too early to say but from the demo i felt combat was far superior , not only the graphics and the quick response of your character but also the skills seem better. I thought i would hate the combat but i loved it.

Yes, now only if we weren't still relying on rogues to open those locks.

Actually that's probably not such a hot idea (though you're free to try and will probably succed eventually) because it looks like having one of each class really improves the performance of the whole. By removing the mage you lose a ton of options. But at least, it doesn't look like you can steamroll the game by just stacking 3 mages.

Mages are still godly, if what Bioware said about enemy mages being "The biggest threat you can face in combat" is true with player mages. I was always under the impression that the scarcity of mages compared to other classes limited them.

Or miss at point blank in other bioware games like KOTORImage IPB

I don't think enemy rogues and warriors can use all the abilities their companion counter-parts are granted. Just speculation tho.

Shout your mouth demon.  We will not make deals with your kind.

Honestly mages all the classes feel balanced in the demo, and the mages are more squishy at a low level like they should be.

As a AVID mage user i was suprised how i could survive early in DA:O with my mage.

I have to disagree. No one likes being the heal biatch in an MMO. But in the case of DA, even your "dedicated healer", barely had to invest in it. He or she, could still be a kick ass damage dealer, crowd controller, or pretty much all of the above.

DA was never a game where healing was anymore than just another one of your spells. It was never a case of your entire mage characters focus was being a healer, more often than not is was a super minor investment, and somethign he cast when he needed to, not sat around doing nothing but healing.

Explain, do you mean all the enhance defense spells or do you just mean they do way to much damage, and even too much damage once friendly fire matters?

Just curious of your perspective, hard to type things out that don't come out as some sort of challenge:)

I hope that the Heal spell gets a buff. I prefer to play support playing as a Mage and hate the 1 minute cooldown on Heal. I have not looked at further abilities in the tree or Spirit Healer, so there could be a quicker heal in one of the trees.

We lost mana clash. That alone makes enemy mages dangerous now.

ETA:

Mages are still ridiculously strong at CC in this game and based on the encounters that matters more than DPS (though maybe we just don't have a representative set), so without FF they're gods. Even with FF, I wouldn't bet the dropoff is major.

You thought mages were less powerful? Even at Kirkwall?

I thought the mages was pretty powerful after Lothering. And the exaggerated mage in the very begining was unbelievably more powerful than the exaggerated rogue or warrior.  The ogre didn't even get to throw one punch.
