I guess you didn't see this when it was posted earlier.

People speculate Batarian involvement
in the DLC due to several files found in game after the addition of the
2nd appearance pack. These new files were a series of planets in a new
system, each planet is under Batarian rule. Another file was of EDI
stating that the Batarians will not welcome an Alliance vessel in their
system and while the Normandy SR2 is independent, it strongly resembles
the well-known SR1 which was an Alliance ship.

I think staring ME3 as a prison break would be an awesome way to approach it. It can explain a time lapse and would serve as an explanation of why your team breaks up again. Most important though is that it would be the perfect excuse to have a batarian squadmate. Think...Shepard has to befriend a batarian and they have to kill a whole lot of people to bust out. Epic beginning.
I like the befriend a Batarian and escape part alot.

Yeah it's one of the few ways bioware can successfully work a batarian into the mix. Some people complain that "my Shepard is a war hero/ruthless/colonist" but I don't think they realize it would make befriending a batarian even better. A sort of Kevin Costner/Morgan Freeman thing like Robin Hood (except it won't be terrible). The more past animosity, the better the dialogue. There's got to be at least a few decent batarians out there.
Hey now, Morgan Freeman was the sh!t in that movie. Also, for people asking for a Batarian squadmate during tutorial.... Jenkins and Wilson....

WHat are you talking about? I can read. I saw that post. It answered my question as to why I everyone thought it would involve a batarian prison. But I made the point that I felt a group of Krogans would be much more menacing than a group of batarians. The batarians have always come across as "all bark and no bite" bad guys.weirdopo wrote...

I'd like to be see the absolute specifics about the costume packs that lead people to these speculations about batarians, so I can make my own speculations.

I just can't buy that Shepard would get captured by Batarians given all the battles he has won.
But yeah, there has to be SOME WAY that Bioware will "reset" your stats from ME2.

I found out about the hidden files in the appearance pack thanks to the massive thread titled "What is Arrival? (New DLC Leak?)" in the General Discussion forum.

What I see as more likely to happen is that the Alliance will recapture Shepard.
That would involve going over Adm. Hackett's authority as he denied permission to detain Shepard.
Not completely unlikely as there are likely various entities within the Alliance and not all of them report to Hackett.

That said, I keep getting stuck on the phrase "Ultimate Sacrifice." The obvious answer is death...but, when you've died before, it kind of loses it's impact. Especially as we know that Shepard's survival into ME3 is not just canon, but mandatory. So...the death of who? Some people say VS, and that would certainly be true of my Shepard, but in my game, Tali died which is probably the true "ultimate sacrifice" for most on the forums.
In my mind, the only thing even more "ultimate sacrifice"ish than your own death is giving up the life of your child. Shepard of course has no children...but what about the doctor we're supposed to be saving?
Maybe the ultimate sacrifice is from the doctor's perspective, not Shepards. Maybe she has to surrender her own child for the greater good?

I just see this as creating too many problems for ME3 since they would have to account for people who didnt play the DLC for importing purposes.
I suppose that if the Batarian POW is indeed true they could have ME3 begin with a cutscene saying you've been captured if you HAVENT played the DLC, otherwise if you HAVE played it you will just begin in the camp.
I also wonder how the events of Lair of the Shadow Broker will affect ME3. I still don't expect it will be nothing more than a superficial change (along the lines of Saving Wrex or Killing Wrex in ME1 for ME2).
AGain, who knows? Bioware stated somewhere that they have a lot more freedon im ME3 and therefore they could easily explore multiple path points.

I like the idea, and posting something similar a while back in which an attack leads to either Shepard or his crew getting kidnapped, and Shepard having to team up with Liara and VS to get them back.

It could actually be sacrificing an entire planet, or something along those lines.
And if you didn't play the DLC, it would have still happened, you just wouldn't have been there.
And then as Merrick97 said, it COULD be superficial. Such as, if you played it, Shepard could have some lines about being there, if not, and it still happened, then there would be lines about not being there.

Indeed. Even Lair of the Shadowbroker isn't necessary to the plot; Liara could just gather a bunch of mercs and depose the Shadowbroker on her own. Then when you meet the Shadowbroker in person in ME3, just have Shepard act shocked to see her there.
