I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but let's remember; Shepard has literally taken down whole armies at a time. Geth, Collectors, even Batarians (if you pick the War Hero background) at one point. And he's done it with little more than armour, an assault rifle, and presumably a pair of massive brass balls. If we are going with the "Shepard stays behind to take out the pursuers" option, we'll need something BIG to make it feel believable. Big like "Shepard takes down a Batarian Dreadnaught" big.

Indeed. :innocent:

Phoenix, you are a life saver. Will you marry me? lol

Anyone who disagrees with Shepard being captured by Batarians should click that link. It is very true. In a cutscene, the developers are the masters. They'll shape the outcome however they like for wathever reason they want.

And... Phoenix... Did you just link me to TVtropes? don't you know how dangerous that is, man!?

LOL, it was at least faster than trying to retype the whole thing in my own words. :P

Yeah, that is quite true. Pure BS it is intended to ****** of fans and create melodrama. I sure hope they don't do that with Shep. Renegade/Paragon actions ftw!

Speaking of interrupts, I hope we get some more this time around. Always a nice addition during conversations.

Right. Cutscene logic. I forgot.

The paragon interrupt for the scene will be Shepard looking tearfully up as his team flies off to safety.

The renegade interrupt will see him ripping the .50 cal off the Mako and one-handing it as he mows down row after row of flabbergasted Batarian commandos, while giving them the finger with the other hand.

Further evidence; I kept reading (damn you Phoenix!) and Mass effect has the most "tropes". Around 10 when the other 50 games shown have only 1 or 2. Yeah, Im sure Shepard being captured is possible.

No offense to Moogle the cannon thing was funny), but I came up with this great idea to start off ME3.....

Just kidding. I just hope the "Ultimate Sacrifice" ends up being something good and not some random NPC dying or that Dr. (which we don't even know) dies. That would be so anti-climatic. In other words, it would suck.

Yeah, I hope the sacrifice doesn't end up being some DLC character that we see for about 10 minutes then leave to die...:?

Back on topic; Shepard captured by Batarian troops just seems so right. We're in Batarian space, fighting them when they likely have advanced weaponry ("Object Rho" and "The Leviathan of Dis").

We could be walking into a very elaborated trap set by the Batarian goverment after Shepard ripped the terminus a new one running around killing mercs and destroying rougue bases belonging to probably Batarian paid organizations. Also, they may think it was Shepard who released that virus in Omega as he was there when it heppened and funded by cerberus no less which is probably common knowledge to high ranking organizations at this point.

Gonna go to bed now. Please keep contributing to the thread, as to at least give it a chance to be seen by the higher ups. My idea has to be better then what they probably have cooked for the DLC. No offense to BW, but I don't want to elevate this "Ultimate Sacrifice" too high and then let it be a total let down where a random NPC dies of a choice where something completaly vague happens.

Sadly...that may happen, I'd say 50/50.. :?

Anyway, good night!

Bioware's at the point where it needs to start explaining a lot of the plot threads they've got hanging if they want to wrap everything up. Personally, I think the DLC will start doing that as it leads into ME3. I have faith in BW's writing chops that they'll be able to pull off something good.

I wonder if this could be linked at all to the Batarian...revolution? Uprising? Whatever it was called from ME1's BDtS.

... Am I the only one who sees this as a massively weird way to prove that the collectors weren't as big a threat the Shepard as the Batarians?

That's a typo if you can't tell due to the mispelled "thousand". There isn't a blasted spell check so if I type more then a paragraph I'm bound to miss something.

It should read "Also the Collectors only numbered in a few hundred or thousand at best." I highly doubt there was even as many as 10,000 Collectors. And if there were that many the vast majority of them were not combatants that's for sure.

Yeaaaaa, Im not seeing Kaiden or Ashley having anything to do with this DLC. Sorry, I just reallllllly dont. Theres not going to be a VS DLC, and this isnt it. Please, people, let's just move on. Kaiden/Ashley will have their time in the proverbial lime light in ME3. Just leave it alone untill then.

Hey Pwener, I think you on to something here. Shepard becomes a prisoner, and in ME 3, everyone is fighting the Reapers and when all hope is gone...TATADADA...OMG, SHEPARD HAS COME TO SAVE US. You made a good point

I always thought that "Captured by the Batarians" could be a viable variant of the "imprisonment" scenario. But it's not an "ultimate sacrifice".

Plus the idea of a "last stand" involves multiple deaths (classical example - the finale of Saving Private Ryan). That's why I think that "Arrival" is going to be like a "suicide mission" all over again. With the possibility of multiple squadmates dying plot deaths. Like 1 squadmate per wave in "the battle for Object Rho".

Wow. Zulu and I actually agree for once.

I too can't see the "ultimate sacrifice", for a DLC that encompasses the biggest plotpoint yet in the trilogy (THE REAPERS ARE HERE!!), being just 1 person. I believe that the sacrifice has to be bigger. More monumental. More deaths.

My belief is that the "ultimate sacrifice" will involve allowing the Reapers to focus their attack on 1 planet, thus giving Shepard time to warn the other races and unite them against the Reapers in ME3. And what's that planet, you ask??

Earth.
