This could be an excellent reason to cut Shepard off from the Team/Cerberus/Alliance (everyone actually). ME3 could then start as a prison escape (remember what Zaeed said: The only way to escape a Batarian prison is to bash you're head on the wall or kill everyone between you and the exit) where Shepard is busted out by Kaidan/Ashley as way to redeem him/herself after abandoning Shepard in Horizon.
Character creation and reconstruction can be implemented here very nicely. Any thoughts?
So we go through another character creation because Shep's bashed his head against a wall, munted his face and forgotten what his combat class was. ha

I could see this happening to Shepard.... he died and came back... now he's been tortured (possibly for his past at Torfun or whatnot otherwise for just being a human). It could really give him the opportunity to explore more emotion rather than just nightmare/visions and love interests.
I support the Batarian Prisoner plot.

In 24.... Jack Bauer was kidnapped by the Chinese and tortured for 2 years. When his freedom was bought... he came back a more emotional and ruthless character.

Just like he explored his emotions at being dead? <_<
Actually she does in the Jacob romance, but it is brushed aside.

We all agree that an imprisonment is a cliche concept, but surely if it ain't broke, don't fix it, yes?
So the mere fact that it's cliche means that there's no reason to break it? Wow, we'll never have any new and interesting concepts with that way of thinking
Now, I don't disagree with that it's an idea that may work. The problem is though, that Mass Effect isn't a brand new game with a brand new character. Mass Effect 3 is supposed to be a sequel, by damn! And I'm tired of seeing Shepard get reseted to zero

Would be especially cool if the Batarian Shep surrendered to was Balak(and if you killed him the just some other Batarian like Wrex/Wreav)
That's what I was thinking of earlier: that this mission might be at least peripherally related to Bring Down the Sky.

the thought being that someone who doesn't download the dlc or just a blank me3 import would lose the "arcturus station" would be an okay balance i think. might be a fake but ultimate sacrifice probably implies something that will make most people sad!!

Cool concept but I doubt ME3's beginning would be designed as DLC-dependent.
In ME3 the game will assume you play LOTSB even if you don't. BioWare could do the same for this one too

Huh. I'm not sure I like how DLC are rapidly becoming increasingly "important" in this way...
I guess that's more or less it though - ME3 will apparently have Liara as the new SB no matter what - and I guess that in the same way, Shepard will be assumed to have made the Ultimate Sacrifie no matter what...

LOTSB was gonna be in the base game but they decided to cut it out and polish it then sell it as DLC. The same can be done here. If you didn't play the DLC, you get a re-cap of this DLC and how Shepard was captured.
Possibly that's the case, though I still don't like it
Also, we don't know for sure whether he'll actually be captured yet or not, so...

I say do it and do it right. Take a page out of both Chronicles of Riddick and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I want to see Shepard beaten and whipped to an inch of his or her life. I want lacerations covering their bodies and a scarred face. Let the rage and disgust build in Sheaprd who should be imprisoned for a good 2 years at least until he or she manages to create enough chaos to stage a prison breakout
Let's have a half naked, beated, brusied and raging Shep fight through the dank and dirty hallways of a prison armed with a pistol taken from a dead guard (Press X to Melee). Maybe even some "Good" Batarians help him out. Let's have him steal a ship only for it to get shot down just outside Batarian space. Screen goes dark.
We wake up screaming in the Normandy med bay, banadges covering our bodies. The room is full of all the surviving squadmates, some thankful while others tearful. Your Love Interest rushes upto you and embraces you. And then, for the first time in seemingly forever... Shepard just cries.
We later see him or her with a grim look on their face looking down on Earth being attacked just like in the trailer. The Love Interst at your side. Shep takes his/her gun and ****s it....

I understand that some people don't get the DLC for wathever reason (although not wanting to pay is a ridiculous one) but around 60% to 80% of players have bought some, or all the DLC for ME2 (Im a DLC maniac myself) so there is really no reason or something stopping them from doing it... but not like it's a bad thing. Wouldn't you like an even better ending to ME2 then just getting a pad in the back? I know I do, and a cliffhanger is the key.
If I was a game devleoper my policy would be, "Didn't buy the story DLC or play the original before the sequal? Tough luck jackass now you won't understand the plot. Enjoy the gameplay!"
Also the sqaudmates would have appropriate responses once you go speak with them:
Grunt: HAH! You showed those dirty Batarians Shepard! Most Krogan would have fallen apart
Thane: You have an uncanny ability to cheat death and come back better for it
Samara: *touches your cheek* It pains me to see someone as young and full of life to go through such horrors
Jack: Welcome to the club!! (Not Romanced) Those batards will pay for this! I promise!! (If Romanced)
Tali:
Legion: The odds of surviving the obstacles you went through Shepard-Commander are one in a million. We have reached consesnus. Your will and determiination have made you something beyond ordinary organics.
Joker: You need a vacation Commander
Garrus: You know by this point everyone should just stop trying to kill you. You're clearly immortal.
The best part would be Shep would seem all shaken up but keep his upbeat/determined personality

That does without saying. This is the perfect pretext if BioWare is going for another reset in ME3.OrlesianWardenCommander wrote...
