How 'bout the love interest came to help Shepard during the dlc and gets captured by batarians with he/she being tortured as an cliffhanger at the end of the dlc, so the first ME3 mission is to break out the LI.

The only problem I see with this is some players have no LI at all. Great idea though.

Now replace LI with VS and THAT could definitely be what happens. As I said they can't really start Shepard in a Batarian prison, but they could do that with the VS and have Anderson just explain the situation for those without the DLC. I expect that is what will happen with regards to Liara becoming the Shadow Broker, if you upload a file without the LOTSB DLC done.

Plus, it would add a cliffhanger and something to look forward to ME3.
Cliffhangers never makes me look forward to anything

First, consider the Batarians, which we know little about, beyond the fact that they're whiny terrorists who like to blow people up and try to destroy entire planets. In the thirty years that we don't know about, the Batarians may have found/acquired the Leviathan, Object Rho, and numerous other Prothean/Reaper/etc. artifacts. They may have researched these things to develop weapons and ships capable of being a threat to the Reapers and/or everyone else. "What? Shepard's back with the SR2 you say? That's ok. We've developed a SupermegaThannix Cannon which can destroy the SR2 in one shot, and we've developed sensors which make it's stealth systems useless." That would provide the plot hook (however lame) to say that Shepard stayed behind to cover everyone's retreat, fully expecting to make it back to the Normandy himself. Instead, Joker notifies him that they have to leave, and that they'll come back for him later.
Alternatively, the Batarians may have been slightly indoctrinated in the past thirty years.
Bob the Reaper: "Hey, Harbinger!"
Harbinger: "Yeah, Bob?"
Bob: "We all knew the Collectors wouldn't last."
Harbinger: "Of course, of course."
Bob: "By the way, you know those idiot Batarians."
Harbinger: "Those four-eyed freaks? Yeah, I know them."
Bob: "They actually think every decision they've ever made for the past thirty years came from their own heads."
Maniacal laughter form Harbinger. "Really?"
Bob: "Yeah. I had those Collectors drop off a few things in a couple of places. When they obtained them, I started to indoctrinate them slightly."
Laughter again. Harbinger: "So they-"
Bob: "Yeah. They think they're acquiring Prothean artifacts to update their weaponry. What they're really doing is actively indoctrinating themselves."
Laughter, more maniacal than before. "You were always good at pranking those Milky Way morons."
Next, look at EDI/SR2. EDI was, for all intents and purposes, a cripple machine at the beginning, having been limited to Cyberwarfare/Electronic Warfare. She made it clear that she could only access certain things when certain conditions had been met. Apparently, linking her to the main SR2 computer core was a sufficient enough condition to trigger the locked out parts of her programming to come online. The Ultimate Sacrifice could easily be one of two scenarios as far as the SR2 is concerned. Either, EDI sacrifices herself and/or the Normandy for the rest of the crew, or she winds up captured by TIM during Arrival. There's absolutely no telling what TIM's capable of in Batarian space. Consider, also, the fact that there is apparently going to be a battle in which Shepard and/or his team are going to have to fight off waves of enemies. Who's to say that it won't be similar to SM in that all the primary characters (plus some, perhaps) won't be on the ground with Shepard fighting off the assault. That begs the question: Who's in charge of the Normandy when all the primaries are gone? Joker? Chakwas? What if the Ultimate Sacrifice is EDI/SR2 and/or Joker/Chakwas/Kelly/the rest of the support crew? What if not having sufficient support crew leads to the deaths of a few primaries? That would actually encourage some players to go back and get the SM done before any of the support crew get melted down into smoothies.
Finally, what if the Ultimate Sacrifice is as follows:
What? You finished the Arrival DLC? Okay, here's your achievement.

I'm pretty sure they aren't going to kill the LI. Imperil, maybe, threaten, certainly. But kill? Do we want the fan fiction community to rise from the dark, moist pit they've tunneled for themselves over the last four years to put out the sun, pull down the stars and wage war against man and god? I don't want to see batrachian horrors drag off my friends & family because some sexually frustrated xenophiliac doesn't get to fantasize about sexing a prawn anymore.
I laughed so hard I was in agony. Thank you.
I started a new playthrough with a new character. As I was playing through a few of the ME missions, it occured to me: What if the "Ultimate Sacrifice" is actually Shepard's mother coming to help him out of Batarian space? Just a thought.

Unlikely, unless you happen to have the "Spacer" past. Seeing as how the Earthborn past ended up leaving Shep with no parents, and the Colonist past left Shep with his/her parents dead, I doubt this will be the case. Any ultimate sacrifice will require something of magnitute.
My opinion? The sacrifice will come from the Alliance. After all, Shep's a hero, and if s/he is under heavy fire, it's likely Admiral Hackett could call in the calvary for an old friend. This could lead to a disastrous conflict that'd leave human forces unable to put up much resistance against the coming Reapers. Considering that any fleet isn't likely to put up any sort of resistance against the Reapers by themselves, it would explain why the Earth is getting hit so hard.
It would also leave a reason for the Council to deny aid, as the humans would have started a war with the Batarians, and by extension the Terminus Systems. Since they cannot be drawn into a conflict of that nature, I could see them using that as an excuse to keep their heads buried into the sand regarding the Reapers. This would be doubly so if the Leviathan turned out to be a Reaper-like ship, who'se been backward-engineered and whose technology is being used by the Batarians. Then the Council can say, "Ah, those ships attacking Earth? Bah, those are Batarians, Shepard, not Reapers!"

Oh yeah. I forgot that each Shepard could have a different past which would effect whether his parents were still around or not. I tend to play Spacers all the time, so I tend to forget.

The fact is. If Shepards team is gone Mass Effect 3 wont be "the final epic part of trilogy" it will simply be a good game "you can also get sum emails ingame if u import save luls".Will I buy it? Yes.Will I buy collectors edition/ future BW games? not really, this will be too big of a dissapointment.
Mass effect series have potential to be the star wars of 21th century, and the first game series where your choices actually mettered. If that potential is wasted by killing off the team( making 80% of ME2 pointless) then you simply have 3 good games people will forget about in a year or 2. Instead of something you would proudly show to your children/grand children and consider a work of art.
Its obviously too late to alter the script so no amount of crying/whining/raging will help. I hope bioware doesnt disappoint but if its like that and we get another fresh start then we should get ready for biggest dissapointment in gaming history. I am thankfull for this dlc, better this than unpacking 150$ collectors edition, and get Lazarus project 2.0 and 'Ah yes reapers'
I couldnt agree more i mean that was bull playing through me1 and then importing my char and not have at least tali and garrus with us! isnt the whole point of the game to have a frontier of allies you can trust to take down the reapers? because last time i checked in me1 when shepard even got the message from the reaper by himself his brain was almost fried! and being in jail is so cliche and why would they be in jail? we frickin stopped the collectors we should get hot women feeding us grapes for that!

Again, click on your own accord... and still don't know if it's true or false... but looks legit.
The only reason I might think this is fake is that it looks like it takes place in Liara's office with Nyxeris standing behind Shepard. I don't see Bioware putting Liara in another DLC after having her in Shadow Broker, because that would then mean making two versions of this DLC. One for those who have played Shadow Broker and she reports from the base, and a second for those who have not and then she might be telling you this from her office as it seems to be here. Also, I don't necessarily see Bioware placing something this important in a DLC, although it's definitely a possibility.

The real question is, can we finally see Arcturus before we make the decision? And I'm assuming it applies to any Love Interest except for Liara. During LotSB I told Liara I'd stop seeing Tali but I can still invite her up to my cabin so I'm wondering who the game is tracking as my character's LI.Corpsetorn wrote...
I hope that's not true. Choosing between Tali and Arcturus would not be easy. In fact, for me, it would be the single most difficult decision to make in ME.
