After installing the demo I noticed that since I'm running XP, and therefore stuck with DX9, I can't use high or very high settings. I've read the thread reccomending not using DX11 in the demo as it causes instability, but my concern is with the full game. Will I be able to get access to high and very high if I'm on XP with DX9? This could very well effect my purchase descision.

Since XP doesn't support DX10 or DX11, that's how it is. I didn't think the game looked bad on the medium settings, though.

It didn't look horrible and it ran smoothly, but I get the feeling that it could look better. Especially after running Origins at Very High for a little over a year now.

It certainly would look better with DX10 or DX11, but for those you'd have to have Vista or Win7. *shrug* I'm a fellow XP user, and am considering upgrading to Win7 eventually, but not for this game. For me, medium running smoothly is enough.

As a former XP user, I have to say that the upgrade to Windows 7 is worth the money, if you can find it for half the price at least, in the long run.

But I understand bad economy, so if that's an issue, stick with what you have and know.

I can't say I want to upgrade to windows 7. Had to use a computer that had it installed last week and I could swear they were actually trying to hide everything from me. It was pretty irritating.

Not so. Windows 7 is awesome! You just need to get to know it.
Upgrading will benefit your gaming experience vastly with the addition of DX11, not to mention general OS stability and performance.

Not as much Vista does. Sadly a lot of those features from Vista carried over into Windows 7, even if they got rid of some of the most annoying ones.

That said, every windows after 95 tried to hide all kinds of things from their users.

Keep in mind that, as far as I know, Medium is pretty much equivalent to DAO's Very High. It's the top of the line for DX9, after all.

Having recently upgraded from XP to 7, I'm quite happy with 7. But this is the one complaint I have.

Mind you, a lot of this kind of thing can be customized away. For instance, the taskbar can be set to use shorter, text-based icons again. And to please not stack windows of the same program on the same icon, as long as there's room to lay them all out. If that comp was set to all of Windows 7's defaults, I can imagine your annoyance.

I was frustrated no end the other day discovering that 7 simply will not give me a Power task tray icon, and so I must go through many more times the clicks to change power profiles, compared to the 2-click simplicity of XP. But that's really the only gripe I can think of.

As far as I know, your version of Windows isn't the only thing that determines whether or not you'll be able to play DA2 with DX11. You need to have a graphics card that actually supports it, and the ones that do are top of the line or close to it. Many PC users probably don't even have good enough hardware to run it.

Medium graphics settings look about as good as MAX settings on DAO. They're more than good.

The demo can't be set to DX10, it would seem. Mine is a DX10 graphics card - a 4870x2. Being stuck on medium kinda sucks.

There have been work-arounds to accommodate Dx10 in WindowsXP, and high end cards for Dx10 have been on the market for four years-plus, so the "High" option ought to be reachable.
