Brent CLEARY says that DA2 isn't the game it _was supposed to be_.

No, he clearly said that DA2 wasn't supposed to be the kind of game he liked to do.

DAII, from what the demo shown me, isn't some grand leap forward and it definitely isn't anything radical for Bioware.  They've been doing the same formula since KOTOR.  I wish they had it in them to do something radical but they've got a corporate overseer who won't allow that.

Huh? ME1 was the same as KotOR? ME2 was the same as KotOR??

What the hell are you talking about?

Narnia is LOTR with Lions!

Yep that's how people comprehend games sometimes.

Anyway your post makes me feel better. What about DA:O any complaints on that? :D

Tons. I don't have specifics myself -- the prerelease discussions got so spoilery that I had to avoid the DAO forum. IIRC Bio adopting MMORPG mechanics was one of the big complaints.

I absolutely agree.  I was so happy to play the demo and had a wonderful time with multiple play-throughs.  I'm more excited about the game than ever.  But I would gladly erase it from existance if I could go without twenty thousand posts lamenting the use of multiple button-presses ruining everything forever.  It's uncomfortably childish and the bombastic response of "I am canceling my preorder right now!!!1" is laughably close to stomping feet and pouting.

Everyone I know from these boards enjoyed the demo, but very few of them have bothered diving into the cesspool of the feedback thread.  The very vocal minority is creating alot of sound and fury, but they certainly do not represent the  stated 70% of hard-core fans.

In the end, DA2 will be released, it will sell like gangbusters.  The whining and angst will taper off within three months.  And 2-3 years from now we will be having this exact same conversation about DA3 and the same folks will be lamenting how Bioware is destroying the franchise and calously spitting in the faces of their so-called loyal fans.  Again.

Seems to me like the general perception from a large core group of the Bioware fanbase is that they're disappointed with DA2.

Whether it's the flashy gameplay and complete lack of tactical options, to the poor voice acting, lack of atmosphere, the feeling of going backwards from the forward progress that the first game achieved.

Sure there are some that like it, and from what I've seen the majority that do didn't like the 1st one as much (yes there are people that like both so there's no need to spam flood the thread stating you do).

Just curious as to how Bioware is reacting to the shock and awe of the state of this particular franchise.  I thought Brent was being a little melodramatic on his blog when he gave reasons for why he left, but after seeing the demo, I can see where he was coming from.

Is this the new direction of the company itself?  Are we truly past the days of tactical combat in your RPGs?

My feelings after playing can be summed up briefly:

"Very disappointed in Bioware."

Trolling: How To Do It Right

Speak on behalf of a hypothetical group? Check.
Using correct puntuation and clear vocabulary to create the illusion of a calm post? Check.
Extreme hyperbole to incite and polarize the masses? Check.

All in all, 9/10. Great troll. Could have used the phrase "slap in the face" once or twice, though.

This made me laugh.   Kudos to you sir.
I was kind of wondering how big this "core group" was?

you are so right man, personally i hated the changes of ME2 so right now im having a horrible flashbaack from nam http://knowyourmeme....sd-clarinet-boy also from a european review, i heard the game is way less original than the 1st. Demo ipressions agree looks like god of war except worse (horribly) with crappy powers that are so unnecesary because of the WTF health regen. Seriously what the hell is up with the regen health. Hawke is human not Wolverine. Sucks that there is no character creation too:sick:

Agreed. I for one loved the demo. I am sure I'm going to enjoy the final game, and that it was worth the wait.

My only reservations now is the supposed game length. For me, the longer the better. I enjoyed Origins so much that I didn't want it to end when it ended. And DA2 is supposed to be shorter than Origins.

Hopefully they will realise that the people on these forums who **** and moan like there is no tomorrow, are not only in the minority of the Dragon Age fan-base, but also of the forums as well.

If they listened to every single complaint and took them to heart then their games would be horrific, hopefully they will pick and choose the ones that make sense, and have a logical reason behind them.

The people that flood these forums are not representative of the core Bioware fanbase. These forums used to not be flooded with console users and action-adventure fans. These forums used to be a place for people that only like RPGs to post.

Thats very interesting I consider myself a part of the Bioware core fanbase and to be honest I've never had you ask me for my opinion? Sure your not pulling facts out of your behind here ?
Hate to break this to you but you do not and have never have done spoke for me or anyone else for that matter.

I think 'Bioware' read our feedbacks. If the right persons, if there is something they actually can do and if they agree with some of them or not, is another questions.

Also I think we have seen both, positive and negative feedback. I think most people hold DA2 in high regards, despite the one or other criticism. I wasn't around the boards previous to other Bioware games, so I have no clue how people thought about ME/ME2 and DA:O before they actually played it, but from some people on this forum I gather they were overcritic as well. So ... most people going to buy the game, and quite a bunch going to change their opinion once they have seen the whole game.

I don't know how people can call it an action game?

They made the combat more visceral and the art style has changed.

Other than that the core mechanics are still intact.

I took out a lot of the quote because I'm not sure the OPs coming back and well, we seem to have wandered off the original topic now. (It's actually civil thankfully)

But, I agree. Just listened to the PC Gamer podcast and they do say it's not the case that the game's been turned into an action game or rather, Mass Effect. *shrugs* But if people want to go around claiming that.... well, there's not much more to say. Especially when they won't listen.

(Note the person above saying it seems like a crappy version of God of War... my point exactly. I think I'm just going to give up arguing it.)

Umm what? There is character creation; it just wasn't avalible for the demo. It will be in the full game.

You guys are all complaining that it's not tactical enough, but you have to keep in mind that it was only the demo, and the first section of the game. Of course it will be easier than the real thing. If you get the full game, just up the difficulty and turn off friendly fire.

I had to pause and play a few times even on the console, so I don't really know what you guys are all up in arms about.
