Similiarly to Mass Effect, I cannot make my black character sound black. He sounds like a white man trapped in an ebony body. The only thing close is experienced, but it still does not hit the spot. This could potentially interfere with my immersion into the game.

Please fix,

sincerly, Mr. Game and Watch

My guess is that the sound files will be easily edited.

Most clever thread title ever.

But seriously, what exactly is "sounding black"?

I hope there will be possibility to make sound-set mods, f.e. it would be fun to make Korgan sound set for my Korgan char.

Listen to Deval Patrick.  Not like that.

Hahah!   "I can hear the justice in his voice."  *snicker*   I guess justice is a whiny little twerp.

(that line was from a short-lived campaign commercial for Deval)

Probably because of how politically correct everyone has to be in America, where a large part of Bioware's audience is. If they added a "black" voice to the wise, violent, veteran, etc list of voices they would probably get sued.

Again, what is a "black voice"? It's a different "black" accent if you are from England, South Africa, the US, asian countries, etc. And how exactly would this "black voice" have evolved in Ferelden? It just doesn't make sense. While there may be reasons to have a dwarf or elf speak differently since they are different cultures, there is no compelling reason to make humans from the same location speak differently from one another in Ferelden.

Snakes on a Plane voice would be awesome.

Also, if there are people of different ethnicities then they must live in relatively isolated groups, or the population would blend into a mix of the groups. Therefore African-Fereldans must have some cohesive group in which they could develop an accent. Being another world completely, there is no reason that it could not be considered the classy accent to which others aspire, as an upper-class British accent is today.

Yeah you are right! If we start consider accents we should consider all the different backgrounds of our characters, probably a noble would not entirely sound like a peasant. Yet I understand the will to completely create the character that its on your mind, and give a special flavour to it, changing tone or volume of the voice  would be awesome and I believe very complicated. By the way I now that this was already mentioned but the name of the thread is indeed very clever. :)

I've made about a dozen characters in Mass Effect. Half or so are white and they even don't sound right with Male Shepards voice :)

Matching voice to appearance is pretty hard regardless of race. Though I can understand when or if you said its more of a stretch.

If you created a character that looked like Ving Rhames you would expect him to have a deeper voice, regardless of if the accent changed. But I would think that if you had the Rock or Arnold you would find the voices don't work either O_o

Heh heh Snakes on a Plane...

I understand what you're saying. I meant that barring major segregation accents shouldn't be that different... but sure if the human races were in isolated groups they could certainly develop different speech patterns. You agree with my main point anyway... what is a "black" voice in Ferelden? Why would it be defined by what we think a "black voice" is?

I think partially because the game feeds into our expectations of what Medieval Whites would sound like despite it being a fictional world, I could understand one expecting other cues from the real world.

It's not about accents. it's about timber. All of the male voices sound like 16 year old boys. There's really no deep masculine, beer-guzzling, axe-swinging voices here.

We need Lando.

Timber? That wood thing is a stereotype, you know.

Or do you mean timbre?

"axe-swinging voices "

**I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok!**

It goes without saying that a brawny lumberjack should have low timbre as well as high timber.  We don't need any pythonesk lumberjacks.
