I'm about as old school as it gets these days. If we took a vote, I might be one of the few who wants to abandon 3d gaming and go back to Infinity Engine in a heartbeat. Those beautiful hand-drawn environments are timeless wonders to me.

Me too.  I'll take great 2D over poor 3D any time.

The PC gamer UK review (the one that gave it 94) was so painful to read. It read like it was written by a teenager taking a combination of steroids and viagra. It was full of many of the marketing talking points which have just plain sucked, and it opened the review by bashing Origins.

I'm a Brit. PC Gamer UK is completely corrupt.

Their 'review' came stright from Bioware's marketing division.

They would swear blind that DA2 cured cancer and ensured world peace if Bioware paid them enough money.

I want an honest review of the game, good points and bad, which is a damn near impossibility given the incestuous relationship between game companies and reviewers.

After your investigating let me know when you find the honest review.

I think Eurogamer might give it a fair review. My rule of thumb with AAA titles like this is usually to minus a value from the review based on how much money the studio has. So for FFXIII, Squenix is a pretty rich studio, I minused 2 points. Seemed about right. For DA2, well...EA is huge so...

The only recent game I felt I didn't need to do this with was DA:O on the PC. It was deserving of the high praise it got.

Yeah, reducing the review makes sense.

Personally, I find a wide range of fan views more helpful than the 'official' gaming reciewers. And I find negative reviews more helpful. I can make up for my own mind whether then aspects they are complaining about are issues for me, or not. But a puff-piece saying how 'awesome' everything is is just worthless.

I do tend to believe that storytelling might be more important than the actual story, myself.

I find a history textbook more intriguing than excellent storytelling of Little Red Riding Hood

that explains your obsession with certain game

Hm? I prefer good lore over good storytelling. Tolkien isn't the best storyteller (Silmarllion) but I love the mythology in his works, Diablo franchise is sub-par to decent in storytelling but I'm a sucker for the lore of the universe.

Now to address your quote, I've obsessions with many games, I am a gamer after all ^_^

Silmarillion was work in progress, if I remember correctly. And it was just great work.

Lol @ game reviews... does anyone really follow them? to me is an e-peen fest...

I did read when I was a teenager. After that I stopped caring what other people think of games.

This. Stopped reading this thread. The fact does not change even if the fact would be politically incorrect.

I don't get it, the longest playthrough of my five character reached about 35 hours with 99 % of the game completed. I have no idea how is it possible to get 50 - 70 hours from DA:O and I fear DA2 will be 25-ish hours for me.

Agree with you there on gametrailers.

Did you skip dialogue? That makes a huge difference in playtime.

Yes, apparently we can side with the Qunari.

The game could take place entirely in a cave and I'd say I'm so pleased about this option being available that I'm not sure I'd care.

The same cave.

Thanks for clarifying.  Yeah that's not really a huge deal for me, I mean it ain't perfect but it's better than having the same cave or same building or same whatever existing multiple times in different areas.

My opinion pretty much echo's this guy.  Exploration doesn't have to be a major part of this kind of game for it to be great.  I like seeing places change dramatically.  I loved the changes in the Mafia 2 city as the game progressed.
