Play.com cancelling pre orders of SE due to no stock? UPDATED

Im on the phone to them now.   On hold.   Call centre in Asia and apparently they have no phone numbers to anyone in the UK for me to speak too!!


Her: "I am unable to answer that sir, thats an issue for head office"

Me: "So can you transfer me there or get someone to call me"

Her: "No sir I cannont do that, we dont have any numbers"

Me: "Of course you have links to your UK headquaters, pop me through because you just told me no one in your office can deal with my issue"

Her: "No I cant do that"




heh so they outsourced their call centre staff from india then -______________-
And there it is, the reason for all the incompetance, call centre staff that have no damn clue.
This is not good at all =/

Arghhh if I could speak to someone in England this would be a lot simpler. They dont understand the nature of the complaint at all and therefore wont help

Meh, seriously they're having a laugh.........

All depends on wether Chris can get to the bottom of it now, though tbh i don't hold out much hope.

I don't seriously expect any answer at all to my email that i sent, knowing what i know now they're prolly scared to death of losing their jobs =/

Am I lucky though :(? They merely told me that the product would be available on 11th March and then it would be dispatched. But I have a very bad feeling that this issue has not been resolved.

The only words she kept saying to me were "Sold Out" and "I don't Understand".


However I called back with a different approach and being clever I managed to get the direct email for the marketing team.

You're right, it's not resolved (not in the slightest), but you're lucky insofar as you're apparently the only person who's inquired and hasn't gotten a cancellation in reply. Which also goes to show (again) just how random this whole cancellation business is. :unsure:

UPDATE:

After having just spoken to someone from play.com i was told that the supplier had failed to deliver the order which was why it got cancelled, also after asking why people who ordered later than myself remained unaffected i was then told that ' all orders were cancelled'.
tbh i was expecting ' its not us its the suppliers arguement'.
Someone's got to hold their hands up. Let's see if it happens.

Lesson learnt: above all else dont deal with play.com ever again.

I would take it with a pinch of salt, as thinking about it would the sig ed's be sitting in a wharehouse already ?
Maybe the pressing plants are leaving it as late as possible. Or even maybe the staff were told to give that line......

Gah, this has gotten out of hand real fast =/

Now i'm expecting people who thought they were getting sig ed to end up with normal versions instead.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm such a surpeme nerd that I booked the week off work so I can play this puppy when it's released like a fulltime hermit. Knowing play.com they'll dispatch the game a week late or inform me that it's been cancelled :(

I just caved in and bought a horribly overpriced SE on amazon marketplace (.de) - more than double of what play.com would've charged me. I guess that IF play should deliver nevertheless, I can easily resell the extra copy on ebay or the like, or give it to a friend. And if play don't deliver, I get at least a little money back. So I'd say, better have two copies arrive than none, but that's just me.

Those of you fellow UK residents who picked amazon.co.uk/play,com, colour me ignorant, but was there a specific reason you went with them? I've never had any issues with game.co.uk - I highly recommend them. I've probably made 50+ orders with them in the past three years, and the one time they messed up (Fallout: New Vegas CE) and sent me the wrong platform copy, they fixed the problem swiftly and took full responsibility - and gave me a partial refund.

I don't want to grief any of you who've been stuffed by Play.com - I'd hate for that to happen to me, but I'd highly recommend game.co.uk in the future, even though that suggestion isn't very comforting at the moment. Also - I've never phoned Game.co.uk and been put through to India.  The final cherry on top is that my game pre-orders usually arrive one day early, on Thursday (this may happen with play.com too though).

If the orders are all getting cancelled then as long as Bioware still supplies the codes to all who pre-ordered the SE I won't be too upset (Steam to the rescue!).

Play are not handling this well.

I've already ordered another copy, but my excuse is that it's the Mac download version.

Otherwise I'd advise waiting a little (until Chris gets back to us?)

this is situation gets more worrying, (and frankly disturbing!) each time check in this thread...

It seems so random now, ive given up trying to come up with a lgoical reason for the problem...

different information given to different people, fingers being pointed. Well now that they have outrightly said the fault is with EA, im very anxious to hear what info Chris can get on the situation...

I still think its the utter lack of knowlege and communication among Play.com employees thatr has caused this problem myself.

Play.com and most other uk online stores used to get it to us days early sometimes too....

game are generally more expensive but Play used to be very good. I have used them loads of times and never had an issue. I have the PS3 version still on order and its still saying OK.

Hopefully EA will sort it out one way or another. I know they sometimes get bad press but I have had no issues with them so far and from what I have seen something will be done to sort out this mess.

I shopped with play for seven years and they never let me down.  In fact Bioware used them as a prefered retailer to get the SE on the DA2 homepage.  Additionally they are advertsing Play.com there still because of the exclusive Amulet of Ashes you get with it.

However because I this I can never shop at Play again.  I feel like banging my head against a brick wall every time I try and communicate with them.  

My entire DA experience is being systematically destroyed because of there atrocious service skills.  which is horrible especially when I also spent $130 on DA2 Lithos in excitiment and love of the game.

I hope marketing get back to me.  Ok I lied in my email just so someone can call me but I hope it works.  I cant believe this and I doubt I can take much more of it...

If they truely have no sig editions, and ship everyone the normal game. That is a HUGE problem, as people have said here that Bioware linked Play.com as a recommended retailer on the site...

This is just an unbelievable situtation...

I chose Play.com because they have delivered a pretty solid service for every product I have ordered for god knows how long. This is the first time things have gone pear shape and the mixed signals everyone is getting is disturbing.

EDIT: The irony of this is if someone would just be straight with me as to what went wrong I could put this matter aside (Obviously I would rage a wee bit).

Waits for official statement from Bioware

I ordered from play as until now i never had any problems at all with them. Amazon they take along time to deliver unless you use a courier service. Game was told by others they are unreliable at best.
