well i didn't know about this till i saw this thread... immidiatly checked my order and thank god it's still there (ordered 20/10/10), I've always found play very good customer service wise, but full sympathies to those that have lost a pre-order of a now discontinuied version of a game!

isn't the whole point of a pre-order is that your guarenteing yourself a copy??

Yep! Its a sad state of affairs when you have so little faith you have to check your play account and email to make sure its still confirmed twice a day!  This close to release I shouldnt need to do this and it reflects badly on all parties involved. Thats why im much appreciative Chris has took this on board and reassured us he's looking into it.

If EA wanted to know upfront from Retailers how many SE copys they will need/order, that to me is stupidity on both sides.
How can EA/Retailers know (for the entire promotion Time), how many SE copys each Retailer would need?
It would have been better if all the retailers needed to place their orders for the SE edition by aprox. 12.1.011 with EA.

Could be of cause that the reatailers only took" X amount" of SE copys on.
Anyhow, sorry to hear/read about it.

A strong worded letter does nothing.

You gotta sue them to show them the mistakes they made.

I don't understand how it would be possible for someone to 'run out' of a Special Edition which can only be pre-ordered over THREE MONTHS before the game comes out. Obviously there is more than plenty of time for Play to tell EA 'this is how many copies of the SE we need' and for EA to send them those copies, again we're talking about over 3 months here. Clearly somebody at Play.com is completely misunderstanding how this whole Special Edition thing works, and their sheer ignorance is causing unnecessary problems for some folks. Hopefully somebody can help them understand whatever it is they aren't understanding about this really simple concept.

in there defence play.com have been very good to me over the years, I havent really had any problems with them at all, however people tend to remember the bad things about a company rather than every time it makes it flow smoothly, hopefully this mistake can be fixed before it tarnishes an otherwise fantastic company....

when ordering online for games especialy play.com normally go the extra mile from my exsperience im generally suprised its gone down this way

Ouch, didnt know about this till right now. Swiftly went to check email and play account info... Everything would seem to be fine with mine. Still on outstanding orders, says pre-order and signature edition. And no recent emails from them. So that means I'm good, I guess? At least for now?

My main reason for posting a reply is to say that the last two times I've ordered from play.com it took over a week, each time, to be delivered. That includes 1x Little Big Planet 2 pre-order. And when it did come, it didnt have the pre-order promotion code. Needless to say that felt terrible. The one slightly redeeming comment I have about that though is, I sent play an email about the issue at gone 6pm, not expecting a response for a while. A few hours later I was emailed the codes without any fuss

I have noticed recentely there orders have been getting a little..... slow, I contacted them about it but got no reply however my orders game at the apointed day for the last few so I have no quarms with that. perhaps and the fact they did not send you a code, they ran out of the little big planet and just waited for the next shipment to send it out.

Perhaps. And that might have been acceptable had they let me know any of that was going on... As it stands DA2 will be my last order with them. They might as well make it a good one and go out with a bang, rather than a tongue lashing

Play has always been a little slow with delivery, but I took that into account when ordering, and its often cheaper for me than Amazon.co.uk (no postage to Germany, either). I've ordered many times before. But this mess is something completely new, and It certainly makes me wonder whether I'll deal with it again...

This is the reason I go with ShopTo. From my experience they are always in complete control of their orders. They are aware of what they have to sell and when they've reached the limit. I often find the bigger places such as Amazon/Play/Game are failing their customers in this department.

Play used to be really fast with their orders in my experience. I mean two years ago i got WotLK a day before release. Last year i waited two weeks for Cataclysm to arrive, needless to say i went and brought another copy from game and returned the one to play.

But as said i wont be using play again either, their customer service was useless and their overall service to do with this game offer has been abysmal.

One other thing, which might sound petty: none of us with cancelled orders will receive the Play.com bonus item either. Not a really big deal, to be sure, but just one more thing that sucks.

Just emailed Play.com ( again :s ) will let people know what happens with it.

I'm annoyed that people that ordered later than me there orders are unaffected.

Play have certainly gotten slack on order deliveries and if you ordered on certain days of week you really would get varied delivery e.g if i ordered on a tuesday then i wouldnt get my order until saturday.

Same with me Stars.  I really enjoy shopping with Play and this is the first time in my seven years of being with them I ever had an issue.  When something went wrong their customer service was brilliant in putting it right. This whole incident is a huge dint on their reputation across a very large community.   I actually felt bad sending them an email of concern because its something I never would of expected I would ever have to do with them.

But the treatment of customers which is showing in this thread and the fact they are still sending emails out saying your order you have had for 5 months is being cancelled a week before release is a joke and a huge insult.

When I first started ordering from play.com I would sometimes get pre-orders through my letter box the day before they were available in shops. Now its a week after. I think that shows a bit of a difference

Sure, I used to pick play.com for cheaper delivery but now its obviously not worth it. I'd rather pay £5 more and get the game a week sooner, especially if its a pre-order...

I'm suddenly so glad I bought mine from the store and got it confirmed they still had some left, are they even ALLOWED to do that?
