Why must we Europeans wait three days longer than our North American counterparts?

Twisted, it has nothing to do with shipping at all. A digital download requires no shipping. EA do not make 3 million copies of the game and then 'post' it to other countries...now who is dellusional?

Contracts yes, and as Byaki pointed out, in this day and age, it still comes down to preferential treatment. That is the only reason for it. Froma cynical pov, am I happy that some other companies give the EU preferential treatment? yes I am (and in those cases, I find it highly amusing that many Americans moan like we are currently).....but even that in itself (though being ****** for tat) is still prejudicial and wrong imo.

Because america is number 1

USA USA USA USA!!!

Love give it a few decades and it won't be the case anymore :P

Then it would be the united states of earth

U.S.E   U.S.E   U.S.E   U.S.E!!!

That would be United States of Europe. What about USW?

Also when is the US finally annexing Canada? Then you could shout USAC! Or USNA! United States of America is sort of a false name anyway, because most american states are not in it. Would better be called 'United North American States except Canada'.

I honestly don't care much for the delayed EU release either.

Mostly because, as a dedicated PC gamer, I've seen plenty of games being released on the same day, worldwide.

Must be a marketing thing, or EA thing

Hate to say it, but, while I'm buying my game, and want to see the Dragon Age brand earn as much money as possible for being such a great game, from a piracy standpoint, this decision is absolutely ridiculous. The amount of people who would generally buy the game, but will pirate it when it is available three days earlier than release date is not insubstantial, and would probably result in quite a big loss for EA over simply releasing all versions at the same time.

But that's just my two cents...

I am not sure if it affects piracy at all. People who don't want to pay for their stuff pirate it. If you're the honest type you won't do it anyway. Even if you are upset about something. I mean you can buy it or not to make your statement about it. The ridiculous thing though is probably that people who pirate it get it earlier?

A very good reason not to do it indeed Desolution...

And as has been said....for 3 days it's advisable for anyone outside NA to stay away from the internet for fear of being spoilered....

In this day and age, there really is no valid reason for not having one universal release date, and every country getting the same product (DA:O CE anyone?)

That's what I mean. I'm sure there are a few people who wouldn't usually pirate it, but would simply to play it three days earlier, especially with all the hype...

Pirates should *never* be rewarded, and that's exactly what this decision does...

You're missing my point completely

Just picture this for a second

Bioware makes game
Game comes out on the 8th in NA and 11th in europe
Steam lets europeans download and play on the 8th cause "hey it's digital"
All the europeans who bought the disk go "WTF mate... or comrade, W/E"
EA gets sued for fraud because now everyone who was going to buy a hard disk is now buying from steam

Get it?

If not, then tell me, why do YOU think they're doing it?

To ****** off europe?
To try to get people to move to America?
Give me a GOOD reason, other than logistics, why they would do this

While it does annoy me a bit now, when I was younger I always preferred the friday release system we have over here.

So many memories of getting a new game after school, and playing it all weekend...

But digital downloaders 'cannot' play it early...thats already been confirmed.

And it has nothing to do with logistics, otherwise, other game companies would not be able to do worldwise releases.....

Again, EU discs and boxes etc, are all done in the EU...because that makes more logistcal sense. So there is no other reason other than wanting to be preferential to their home country for it. (again, just like the new console releases in Japan).
It's exactly the same as the DA:O CE....(I got mine from NA btw)....I was told explicity by a European EA rep that it was not 'cost effective' to replicate the NA CE for the EU market). Thus, they did not 'ship' out the same CE all over the world.

It is purely down to EA, wanting to keep their home country happier, no other reason. Again, if it was logistics, shipping, store space , or any other half assed reason that has been mentioned here, funny how other (smaller and larger) companies don't have that same problem isn't it?

@Metal-Dragon...

Hehe aye yeah, I also have fond memories of that too, and that is why (as I said earlier) it was originally done.  Also in the past, there were more Mon-Fri workers, so it was a logical time to release things like that.

If the game has gone gold, why can't they just send them out earlier to Europe so everyone can get it on 8/3 instead of 11/3!

You answer yourself in your question. Because you are "Europeans" B):police:

There's probably a logistics reason, but sending it to Europe would make it a lot easier (if before release) to have it torrent-uploaded before release.

Yeah I just found out that both my competition and the European release are on the 11th.

Wow, I'm so lucky.

Why would it make someone like me, from america, HAPPY that europeans have to wait to play a game?

Can you at least not leave logic at the door when you try to argue with someone?

Dunno if that's a German thing, but if you buy it in "ye olde game store" (i.e. not gamestop etc.), you usually get the games on the same day as everybody else. It's just a marketing thing I think, and most retailers here don't really care whether it's supposed to be out on the 8th or 11th.

i can verify this for video stores too. they have it in the mail, they put it on display. that's usually 1-2 days before release day.

That was not referring to you specifically....so no need to talk semantics really is there?

For too long now, Americans (not you specifically) have 'enjoyed' earlier releases of media over the rest of the world, especially Europe. I use the word 'enjoyed' loosely btw, as in, getting somethig before others, not as in, made me happy ok?

Now, if that was to sudddenly change overnight, I can bet my ass there would be a major backlash over it. That is not to say Americans think they are better, or they are 'happy' they get games earlier than us, or any other feable argument, it's just the way it is. I know many Americans who feel it is unfair, I know a lot of don't give a **** 'because' thye get it early...but I digress.

The original argument, question and point was and still is, why does North America get games (mostly) earlier than Europeans, and my point is, it is purely dowen to preferential treatment from EA being a North American company and wanting to keep their (not you) happier.

Because no matter what excuses people may bring to the table, there is no logical, logistical or legal reason for doing it. Now, if there actually 'is', then one must wonder how they became the company they did, when many other companies do not suffer from these issues.

Back to 'you', you have no reason to be unhappy about it (you're American yes), and you 'do' have reasons to be happy with it (regardless of whether you actually are or not)....but I never spcifically said 'you' were happy or unhappy about it.

Make more sense? :)

Not overly true. WoWs expansions, for example, are released on the same day over the entire world. Of course, that means places like Austrailia get it first, etc etc.

That might be because it's an MMO though. >.>

This

I just don't get why it is this way or why it couldn't change

Maybe there is an awesome and simple answer... But i just don't see it.

I say, complain to ea.. Until they find it best to listen. <_<

I get why Europeans might be frustrated. It does seem unfair. Life isn't fair though. Piracy has already been mentioned for one.

There are logistical considerations to take into account. Bandwidth. Let's face it the servers that are supposed to distribute the DLC on Tuesday here in America are gonna go berserk. Downloads will be slow. Look at what happened to the Demo when it was released. I could not download it even with a fast/expensive internet connection. I had to get it from Steam because EA/Bioware couldn't handle the load.

Making the EU wait 3 days spreads out some of the deluge.

I doubt it's about Tyrannical North American Overlords looking to poke our Haughty European Neighbors. If you want tyranny, how about the tyranny of the Earth's rotation. Europe is at least 5 hours ahead of us here on the east coast of North America. That's totally unfair. If there was a universal release date tied to local time you guys would get it before me. UNFAIR!! I demand the UN do something about this. The Earth must be stopped. That's the only fair way to handle things. :)
