It's secretly revenge for the War of 1812.

Also, having to learn about the French Revolution every year in High School.

I think they stopped learning that.

So why adhere to this? its stupid. it'll just make europeans that are eager to play your game get it through illegal means.

I'm sure BioWare's greedy corporate masters can't force other greedy corporate masters to change their cost reducing schemes to maximize their profits.

Really, the only ones with the muscle to do it are the ones with the uber games, like the aforementioned Cataclysm.

And yes, it is a shoddy practice, but nothing BioWare or EA can do about it.  It's a retailer decision.  Maybe.  I seem to recall there being some sort of contract that if a retailer sells a game before the release date, the retailer can be fined thousands of dollars per game.

And think about it :) Europeans get a a whole weekend to play the game in, some of the people in USA and CAN have to wait untill the weekend to play it - even if they bought it Tuesday ;)  No, seriously - games in Europe always are released on a Friday...

Edit:

10  or 11years ago or so a little game called Planescape: Torment were released. Back in that timeframe, we Europeans had to wait for 6-8 months before a new game got released here. And then maybe we couldn't buy it, because the shops didn't have it. In 1999, I think, I bought Baldur's Gate (the first one) - this was a year after or so, it was released in the US, I think. So, be grateful that it os only 3 days now...

As for the 10th of March, this could be the UK release date while he 11th maybe could be the release date for central europe?

It's not entirely one-sided either. Being Aussie, I cop the PAL region release date restrictions Europe gets as well, in most cases...which is annoying, but sometimes there's a game out there made by one of the Euro companies...and guess who gets it before the Yanks? We and the Euro people do.

Which from what I've noticed, seems to royally annoy the hell out of American players sometimes, so we can't complain I guess, heh. But the way it goes is if the company is situated in America...they get it first, we get it after...if it's made by a Euro company, we'll usually get it before the Americans do...it's just how it is.

In the case of WoW or any other MMO for that matter, they're universal games that have to follow a worldwide release date usually, that's normally why companies like Blizzard release them together, or within hours of each other...though I never understood why the Euro's got it slightly before everyone else, when it's a Canadian-born, now US-run company...but it's not the first time Blizzard has done something that makes you wonder why, we just roll with it.

Still it is only a small exception take Ubisoft a French company makers of the Assassin's Creed franchise they still release it to the US first even though they are a European country so.....

True, a rare case...but it does happen. Have you noticed however that they favoured the Euro editions of the game in terms of "bonus" content for many of their Assassin's Creed games (mainly Brotherhood)? The Euro and Aussie editions for pre-orders/collector's got much more than their US counterparts...we wait a tad longer, but we get a little more...so I'm not complaining, heh.

So obviously, what Bioware ought to do is release it in Europe on the 4th and North America on the 8th.

Altima, and as has been said numerous times, it has nothing to do with retails or financial mustle.....

Much smaller companies manage worldwise relased dates.....this 'is' purely down to EA.
