Do you want NWN1 or NWN2?

You can purchase the second (with expansions) here:

http://store.steampo...1_7_7_151_150_1

I don't know where you can find the first, try asking at the NWN1 forums.

OKay. First of all, NWN is down the hall. This is NWN2. There was never a version 1.00.1000 of NWN2, so I'm guessing you got the NWN demo, which I believe only had a toolset? Not sure, I didn't jump in at release and before for NWN.

Second, by carefully reading the Sticky Topics at the TOP of this forum, a lot of what you're probably looking for is in there. If you're really looking for NWN and not NWN2, then go up a level of links to Forum Home (you can see it at the top of the thread page where it tells you "where you are" in the forums) and then look for NWN. It's a fair bet most of what you'd be looking for there will ALSO be in the top Sticky Threads, so check those if that's where you really were intending to be.

Once all that's done, if you still haven't gotten answers to all your Life's Questions (the answer is 42, by the way) come back and post something a tad more specific and we'll see what we can do.

Oops, did I forget to mention that I'm a MacOS only user.

Yes, I am looking for all MacOS versions and the Demo 1 is what I have and I would be interested in starting the saga from the beginning if I can.

So thank you all for your input and please keep it coming.

PS: Very Kool Avatar Dunniteowl, how can I load my own Avatar? I didn't see that feature.

NWN is not needed for NWN2 and the game mechanics are quite different. Mac OS versions of NWN and its expansions Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark were written by MacPlay and published by Atari.

NWN2 is available for Mac OS X, but the expansions Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir are only available for Windows. If you purchase the Mac version of NWN2, upgrade it to 1.23 with the downloadable patch, and purchase the Windows versions of the expansions then you can follow directions online (follow my NWN2Mac Forum link below) to get them working. If you use Bootcamp and already have Windows XP then my suggestion is just buy the Windows Platinum version of NWN2 for $20 from Amazon and play in Windows instead.

yes bootcamp is much better for us mac folks. Doing it the other way i'd almost recommend getting the $20 windows version with all expansions and bootcamp, then getting the $60 mac version and copying the files over to your mac ( which is a very simple description of how to upgrade the mac version )

Also if you ever want to try out the toolset you will need the Windows version. The toolset is not available for Mac.

The main reason I don't have a Mac is because of NWN2. Also I don't really like them, but mainly it's NWN2. ;-)

Don't hate me... but as I've been into computers since the early ARPAnet days I've been exposed to most computer systems (IBM 360, Rockwell AIM-65, Sinclair Computer, Osborne 1, Acorn, Radio Shack's TRS-80, Commodore VIC-20 and C64, Atari, Apple II, Apple Lisa, Apple Macintosh) and many operating systems and long ago decided that Unix was and is the best publicly available OS I've used and Xerox's Proprietary Small Talk GUI OS (not available to the general public) the next. The early MacOS won my loyalty because it did superior graphics (as well as regular work, like WP and spread sheets and ran on the Motorola 68000 which was a great CPU family (M680x0) in its day. Because MacOS X runs on a Unix variant it is my GUI OS of choice. As for running Windows… I'd rather not use it… way too buggy. [Unix = #-1, MacOS X = #-2, Linux = #-3, DOS… don't get me started, Windows = #-always last]. :pinched:

"We will now return to our regular programing" and I will try to not go off topic again.

I will be posting further NWN1 queries and responses on NWN1 and posting here only replies that follow this thread and NWN2 stuff. :)

I hope the operators of this site will install an option in the Profile Photo Setter to upload/download Avatars off our desktops like many other Forum sites do. Some of them have Moderator approval delays which makes it impossible to install crude Avatars.

Don't hold your breath. Meanwhilem you can create your own personalized avatar and upload it following the instructions set up in the linked Sticky Topic that I_Raps indicated.

You sound like a more computer involved person than I, but only just so. I've been modifying and building my own since 1987. I just wasn't directly involved in the industry as you seem to have been. (I mean other than my days as a Semiconductor Equip. Tech for Intel and AMD, that is.)

Must....fight....urge....to.....debate....unix.

I'm pretty mesmerized by your avatar also Dno. Are you saying Hellfire painted that up for you? And I just noticed that light blue may be lightning stretched between the owls outstretched wings. Sort of a Nightowl mage. Is that the case or is it his breast feathers/down which are a striped light blue pattern.

'Tis a "bust" of an owl in Hellfire's "blue" period. Oddly, about 4 days after I got this working, I watched a corny little film called, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" wherein about 30 seconds into the first scene, there's a quick cut to an owl sitting in a tree outside and it damn near looks just like this!

Art imitating art? It was weird and it was definitely totally coincidental (I can't imagine Hellfire watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid [I had to review it for grandchildren suitability.])

And yes, Hellfire actually whipped three different images up for me and I chose the one I liked best.

So. End the end run, if you can build it and then fit it into a 146x146 (I think it is) .png image, you can replace your avatar with -- well within reason -- pretty much whatever suits ya. My dog doesn't have his mind in the toilet, but he'll happily drink out of it. So will my cat, come to think.

Well, I already have a JPG that I would like to use. I don't have the character creator mentioned. Is it only a windoze application?:innocent:

As for being "computer involved' it was mostly in programing vs hardware so I have a bit of hardware development envy. But as one my interests since I was 12 has been photography, and after some experience with "production robotics" I decided to find a machine that ran on the Motorola 030 CPU to do computer aided graphics and animation. If only the Amiga had been able to do day to day stuff…:? so my only choice was the Mac. And then there was the potential power Of RISC.
Oh happy day… the Apple switch to Intel was music to my <3…. RPGs written for CPUs instead of OSs….:D Or not!!!:(
As an old D&D board gamer… GIve me my RPGs or give me a sharp stick in the eye!:pinched:
