Symptoms of this bug include:
- you can't talk to Shale
- when you do talk to shale you get the first activation conversation and the world disappears
- warden's keep disappears from your map
- when you talk to levi drydon in camp after clearing out the keep, you get the original conversation again
- all items you got from warden's keep have vanished (odds are good that allistair is naked)

Tycho from penny arcade has posted on this bug:

There's a youtube video here:
I have tried emailing official EA support but of course there has been no response for over a week.

Would be nice if some actually have found a workaround for this, so i can have fun with the items and Shale during the whole story without being afraid to suddenly loose it all.

I sent a request to return the game, I have no desire to keep this crappy product. Im also going to do my best to keep other people from having this kind of issue again, by not supporting bioware.
That... is a bit much. Obviously, if they're banking on the game's future with this single feature they're going to get it fixed as soon as humanly possible.
But you want it fixed now?
Wanting it harder won't make the cake bake faster.

I recently had all Shale's gift items (remarkable amethyst and sapphire bought from merchants in Ozzamar) disappear from the inventory on my way to the camp. At that time, the game was heavily uploading something over the network, apparently updating profile.
Or EA was collecting info about your computer, including software you have installed.
That's more important than have DLC that actually works, it seems...
It's such a shame these things happen. I've had my share of DLC problems, and I strongly believe them NOT be sloppy programming from BioWare, but rather the way EA implements it. Not one bug I've encountered seems to be bugs in coding or dialogs - but the fact that EA wants us to play online all the time, so that they can enforce their "privacy" policy on us.
So - BioWare doesn't deserve bashing IMO, but EA certainly does.

That's a bit drastic, don't you think? Have you been a PC gamer for any amount of time? This is a bug, and I experienced it, but overall this game runs well. Gees! Impatience with people these days...

That's my opinion also. Bioware have a deserved reputation for quality games, as far as I can tell, and EA have an equally deserved reputation for their attitude to customers. The dubious priorities as applied to the DLCs, i.e. content control vs. customer satisfaction, is pretty much EA's hallmark.fkirenicus wrote...

As for the "a bit much" remarks, EA could so easily placate many of the complainants by making some sort of timely announcement. By not doing so, people tend to draw their own conclusions: if there's one thing that people hate more than bad news it's no communication at all.

I understand that stance, but, gamers seem to have gotten on just fine before the Internet & forum age. Like I always tell my employees: "An emergency on someone else's part doesn't necessarily constitute an emergency on ours."
They may already have fixes in the works. All I know is that the gaming public (at least most of those that post in forums these days) are quite impatient. And they feel very entitled.

They /are/ entitled - they've paid good money for something that often doesn't work properly. People are no more impatient than they've ever been, it's just that the Internet has given them a voice where often there was none: and that's a good thing, in my opinion. If others either aren't bothered or don't have the same experiences, then good luck to them, but I don't think it's reasonable for them to berate the complainants.Hammer6767 wrote...

As regards an emergency, perhaps not the word I'd have chosen, but EA really should be treating it as a priority: at the very least they should make a bit more effort to communicate with their customers. Still, if they don't, ultimately it's their loss. Shame Bioware could be dragged down by all this, though.

Pay for a DLC that then vanishes from your content is simply fraud. I hope the devs get their **** together and at least START acknowledging that there is an issue and they want to work on fixing it. *grumble*

So started looking for her staff, and found out all wardens keep & stone prisoner items gone, and of course everything in the party chest in Soldiers Peak.
Interesting though that the few items from Return to Ostagar that I had equipped on characters was still with me, so not all dlc content was gone - just the wardens keep and stone prisoner.
Last working save 20+ hours earlier so I guess I'm done. :/ Oh well, plenty of games in the sea...
