How much is the VS worth to you? (Hypothetic "Arrival - Last Stand" scenarios. With poll.)

This is entirely hypothetical, but since it's going to be quite a while till the "Arrival" DLC finally arrives, no harm in speculation. So here goes...

IF

In the Battle for "Object Rho" the Virmire Survivor (Ashley/Kaidan) is going to die, unless you sacrifice one or several of the ME2 companions... Like, 1-2 per each of the "5 waves". How many of them will you be willing to sacrifice?

POLL

Also, will it matter if there are some unnamed civillians or Alliance marines involved along with the VS?

If there are only unnamed red shirts in question and no VS, will you be willing to sacrifice companions for them?

Will you make a run for the "Last Stand" trophy, only to replay it later for canon and not hold the line, sacrificing whatever there is (VS only / VS + red shirts / red shirts only) and import all ME2 squadmates alive to ME3?

I went with 0, but I'm assuming this is merely a choice of who do I like more. I like all of them. What matters to me is the mission, not so much the people. I'll sacrifice whoever or whatever is necessary to attain the objective.

I'd roll over in my grave if Ashley or Kaiden took over my squad.

This is, of course, assuming the primary objective is secured, and the only question remains who gets evac'd and who gets to make the "ultimate sacrifice".

I'll sacrifice Miranda, Jacob, and Jack...maybe Kaiden, maybe Thane

And if it's just one instead of 5 you ask? We still sacrifice 5.

I won't actively trade one person's life for someone else's, much less many lives for one.

All things being equal then? The VS gets to stay behind because I'm not gonna ask one of my own people to do it. That would just be bad for morale. If someone volunteers I'll let them stay, but otherwise my priority is to my own team, naturally.

I don't think that how much someone is worth to you should really be measured in terms of who you'd sacrifice to save them. Kaidan's my favourite squadmate, but that doesn't mean I'd want others to die so he could live. If it came down to it, I'd choose him over pretty much anyone, but not over multiple people. It just wouldn't seem fair. I'm pretty sure that, as a character, he wouldn't want it either. Say what you will for Ash and Kai, but both were willing to sacrifice themselves to save others. They never put themselves first.

The VS used to be your comrade-in-arms, while your present crew are mercs, at the end of the day...

I'd take issue with the "Comrade/Mercenary" statement, I think. That may have been true at the beginning of the game, but by the end of it, there isn't a single mercenary left on your squad. They're all willing to follow you into hell and back, simply because you asked them to. That's not mercenary behavior.

I'ma be honest, I never really glommed onto either of the VS back in ME1. They both seemed kinda bland compared to the other crew members. I'd rather stick with my new crew than sacrifice any of them to get VS back.

And yes, that includes Jacob. I kinda like the dude.

At the end of the day, but the day is not over yet and in any case I am no longer part of the Alliance.

Though I suppose it is worth considering that Grunt might be a good candidate to go down in a blaze of glory. Then again it is by no means certain that I'll even release him in the (first) playthrough I import into ME3.

Maybe Jacob will volunteer?

Zulu, you have to take into consideration that there are people who will play Arrival with only two surviving squadmates.

Who would you rather take over the squad? Miranda? Jacob? Because they would put TIM in power after the attack on Earth. And everyother squadmate would help their home worlds before saving Earth. And if you think I am wrong esplain it to me. Ash or Kaidan would risk it all to save Earth.

On second thought, I might sacrifice Garrus. He has nothing to live for, no life outside of Shepard, and he was selling intel to the STG behind my back.

It'll be difficult to out-volunteer the VS...

That would only mean that such people won't be able to sacrifice more than two squadmates for the VS, and if the "plot price" is set higher by the game designer, then the VS is as good as dead already. Kinda "consequences".

I know that I'd rather sacrifice my cannon Shepard before letting her lose Kaidan again (same goes for my loyal to Ash maleshep). Mission is important, survival of the galaxy is important, but living is hollow when the one you love is gone and you could have prevented it. If VS has to do, my loyal Shepards would pretty much turn into suicidal maniacs who will end up jeopardizing more lives then saving them.

that said, my Shepard hopefully not being a moron, would figure out a plan of action that would allow him/her to come out of the situation with minimum/no casualties. As for real life equivalent - if DLC will require the scenario as you described - bioware is not getting a penny from me for it. I've said it before and I will say it again, arbitrary scripted "nothing you can do to prevent it" deaths of core characters is something that I really dislike in my games. Virmire was bad enough.

I will sacrifice Zaeed, his old and problay will leave to go after that one person. I had to save the workers from the fire first, i couldnt let them burn for revenge. But i still managed to get Zaeed to stay in the squad.

ALOT

my favourite character, my cannon Sheps sole romance. I would probably sacrifice any ME2 squaddies for the VS, no contest. If i got to pick specifically then its Jacob, Liara, Zaeed and or Samara.
