My opinion (which I'm aware no-one asked for) is that if module makers were more concerned with creating modules to please themselves, and less concerned about votes or what other people think about them, then we'd have more truly unique and ground-breaking modules out there. Trying to please others is something you'll never be entirely successful at, and can compromise your own vision for the module.
When I make a module, I'm only interested in one persons's opinion - mine. That's why I never bother to advertise my releases via custom signatures or 'new module' threads. If I have fun playing them, then I'm satisfied. And I'd certainly not waste peoples' time creating threads about modules that haven't even been released yet. I've had too many computer crashes or pesky real-life events happen to be silly enough to give release dates, or to even guarantee the completion of a project at all.
My next module (which just needs a bit of polish now) won't even allow commenting or voting when I post it to the vault. I don't intend to give hints or walk-throughs, and I don't want others spoiling the experience by doing so either. I've never had any desire to seek the approval of complete strangers - something the current generation, with their online social networks, seems to think is important for some reason.
I'll get down off my soapbox now...
