the main advantage of two-handers is being immune to knock downs and stuns. there are some fights where that makes a HUGE difference. Otherwise, I'd have to say DW is superior, and at least for me, looks better (the slow two hander animations drive me nuts, I know its a fantasy game, but seriously, I know people who train in them, and it's just not that slow. You'd be dead if you were that slow.)

I am sorry... I mean no offense, but... you'll have to forgive me for being more than a little skeptical. You know people in this day and age who legitimately train with authentic, full-sized, metal two-handed swords?

They do. I know of this too. I don't find it too hard to believe. People still train Kendo. People still train fencing. These are also sword-arts, just as two-handed swords. It's rare - but it's definitively there. What I find MORE odd is that people still practice the bow. We got guns - why would one ever need a bow? If anything, we got crossbows. Silly.

I am playing a dual wielding rogue and find I love the animations and the character much better than my two hander warrior. I also agree that stealth gives you so many advantages, plus all the dual wielding skills that stun opponents makes battles much easier.

I also love using my stealth to string out mobs, so that we have an easier time killing them a couple at a time instead of getting the bums rush.

As to armor, I did get my strength up to wear the best leather armor; however, I don't have the best right now, I am 8th level, and I have by far the highest AC in my party right now, without wearing heavy armor.

I never said my strength rogue was the dps king build, but he tanks the high dragon like its a joke on nightmare. I guess I prefer never dying to higher dps.

i finished the game with both a 2h warrior (berzerk-templar) and a DW (swords) rogue (duellist assassin).

Stats :

-------------------------------------------------2h--------------dw

damage : 350031 282809

kills (final blow) : 1223 1132

hit rate: 96% 93%

max damage : 160 88

contribution to damage party : 51% 43%

party kills : 2631 2586

damage per party kills : 133.04 109.3

My rogue build was not probably the best we can make (first char). Anyway, it's very close. The DW hit fast and for few damage, the 2h hit slowly for a large amount of damage. The choice is yours.

Oh, and

What I find MORE odd is that people still practice the bow. We got guns - why would one ever need a bow? If anything, we got crossbows. Silly.

George Washington never said something about using a bow if they can't use guns ? Or some important historical figure during Independance war. Bow are still used a lot more than you think.

No.

I didn't ask if he knew people that trained with real swords in the art of fencing or kendo. Any sword which you can grip with two hands (I. E. all of them) is not a two-handed sword. I am asking if he--or you, or anyone else--knows people who legitimately train in the art of zweihander with western two-handed swords comperable to the ones in the game.

You have to consider, a katana is... what, three-and-a-half feet long? That's closer to the one-handed longswords in the game. Slung across his back, the tip of my character's greatsword reaches below his knees and the hilt sticks up at least a full head-and-a-half over his head. It's effectively as tall as he is. For argument's sake, consider his height a reasonably average six feet, and you're talking about a sword almost twice as long as a katana while being--again, as a western sword--probably two or three times as thick, and probably two-to-three times as wide from at least the midpoint to the base of the blade.

That is a sizeable piece of hardware that I don't think you're properly appreciating.

Here's the link :)

http://www.aemma.org/

Enjoy.  Some of them are really hardcore.  They have translated medieval transcripts and they use the sytems from them.  And one of the weapons they train in is the poleaxe.  http://www.aemma.org...dex2.php?pg=t0  (I didn't say greatswords, I said 2 handers)

If you do a search on the web you can find guys who train in greatswords, as well.

Anyway, point is, these guys are a lot faster than DA animations.

There are people who train in all sorts of strange things.  Beats watching TV.

A. Crossbows reload much, much slower then regulair longbows. Also take much more care taking and
they have more regulair function problems.
B. They dont make as much noise as guns, which in my hunting activities is a plus.
C. They don't leave bullets and their components in the bodies of the prey,
and thus making the prey more proper for eating. Not to mention leaving the hide less damaged.

Next to those practical reasons it's an artform, with right discipline and concentration it becomes a relaxing thing,
to shoot and taking care of your bow.

Also you will find several trainers in europe who mastered the skill of full two-hand swords and/or basterdswords.

Got a Dual weilding Rogue, backstabs are brutal!

Daul weapons do a hell of a lot more damage and hit more often than 2 handed swords. I'd go Daul any day.

Here's my DW rogue... partied with morrigan(AW DPS), Ogrhen (DPS) and Wynne(Healer). My DW hits very fast and quite hard, especially using rose's thorn, warden chest and red jenny seekers.
