LOL, no you're not the only one, you don't know how many times I had to re-watch the ME2 intro because my Shepard looked funny in different lighting.

I'm guilty of that.

Heck, in Oblivion I spent and hour ... HOUR getting my character's face right.

I admit, I will prolly do the default male Hawke, but I think my female one will be my own making.

Takes up my entire day just getting the character right ... if I'm gonna spend the next 50+ hours staring at him, dangit he's gotta look completely awesome!

This.  I agonize and agonize and slide and poke and prod, and then play and look like my cheekbones were cut with a razor and have to start over ... almost have the ME intro memorized.Posted Image  Don't know how many of my characters in DAO and ME never made it past level 2.  But it's a lot.

Nope. The character customization is really bad.

Look here for a good example of what a character creator should be:

I make my character look as close to my RL self as possible to build a bond with what happens to him/her so the more freedom to alter the better. As I'm a bit of a genetic mutant I would like to take those bars to the extreme please so the image can match my horrible warped monster like RL appearance thanks. ("\\(x_v)/")

Why anyone would choose to use defualt is beyond me, I'm the one controlling the hero I should be the one appearance wise to get the glory! Customisation is a blessing so do not diss it because if they actually listen to you and remove a feature of a game that adds MASSIVE emotional bonding/compassion towards your hero not only will I have to kick your arse but you'll also make me cry... Posted Image You don't want to make me cry, do you? Would be rather mean...

Uh no, the customization isnt bad. If it was, there wouldnt be so many people stressing over it. oh and thats a nice character creator you posted, but we arent playing that game, so who cares.

At this point... I don't know. I've played ME1 & 2 with the default male Shepard and enjoyed both run throughs, but I didn't like the default female Shepard and spent lots of time getting her to look like I wanted her to. In DAO, I definitely fiddled with everything... but the defaults for DA2 look pretty good. I might try changing a few minor details, but I might just want to get into the game. I also want to see what the other defaults look like because that could change my mind, too. ;)

No, it's bad because you can just change the face in very minute ways, just like Mass Effect 1 and 2. You get one headshape, and you can do minor changes to the facial structure. woopde do

i want to change my body type, height, muscle mass, tatoos, eye color, skin tint, eyebrow type, with 32 different beard or hairstyles, and varying lengths and colors and dyes, etc

The DA:O one wasn't bad, but it had a lot of room for improvement.

Generally I spend a decent amount of time getting it right, but nothing crazy. The Black Emporium will be awesome, however - small tweaks, hairstyle changes, and gradual aging...

Oh God, do you know how many times I restarted DAO just because something about my character's appearance bugged me? Over sixty times...yes, I counted. O_o I obsess over making the character look the way I want, and if something is off, I have to fix it.

For myself, I'll probably start of a couple of not-so-serious custom builds just to get into the game, and chances are I will finish a couple of games before I settle down to a preferred look for my canon charactor.

Anything goes for male Hawke (or I might just stick with the default), but I realise that for my female charactors, I tend to gravitate towards redheads with type III/IV skin colour ... it's a fixation I got from ME1 and carried ino DA:O

*glances at my profile pic of my Lady Cousland in her wedding dress*.

Oh well? Almost every game I've seen with those kind of sliders weren't any good. Or were an MMO.

I'm just gonna make my guy look good from the start. I don't feel right changing his appearance mid game with some weird cosmic plastic surgery kit.

Plastic surgery is gross.. <_<

I did in DAO and really tried in ME but ended up sticking with the default because all my Shepards looked as if they had down syndrome and didn't look natural, but that may have been due to the lack of CC all together.

I don't usually spend more than half an hour on creating characters for single player games if I can help it ... especially games I don't expect to provide a large number of mods which will see me playing the same character for years to come. (unlike NWN which I was constantly retweaking my character design in, as more detailed mods came out to add hair and details, since I was playing her through literally a hundred or more different stories)

Quick pointer to face builders:

Find some pictures of people you think are hot. Study their faces (nose length, eye spacing, jaw width, etc). Then make your character. It will be much easier to make someone you think is hot if you know the basic geometry of what you like. Art is more about perception than it is about drawing/painting/whatever, and building a face draws on those same concepts.

Repeat for whatever type of character you want (hot, intimidating, ugly, dainty, etc).

I tried that problem is I coud'nt find another angle so I steel fail at charcter cration.

I will most likely. Just when I think I got the front view of the face to look the way I want it, the side view looks like complete crap.

My brother used to shout that when I had to share his game.
So I'd say "Perfection takes time." Posted Image
