I never said it really was your fault. But your mother isn't thinking logically at that point; her son/daughter just died and she's stressed out anyway about the darkspawn and Lothering. She lashes out because she's upset.

Again, she's not in her right mind. She's caught up in her grief-as evidenced by her whole, "wake up, the battle's over" line. She's in denial, then she gets angry. Which actually follows the standard grief progression for most people.

Plot armor. She's probably got to live long enough to introduce you to the family in Kirkwall. She can have a heart attack immediately afterwards. Otherwise...
"Who are you?"
"I'm your long-lost neice Bethany!"
"Never heard of you. Go away!"
She's a quest giver later. Can't die now, unfortunately. She's a b----.

Well the point is she is the only one who doesn't know how to hold a weapon and the only one to be useless and the only one to cast blame. If I think for example about mom Cousland, I would prefer her 10 times over mom Hawke.andar91 wrote...

I just got the impression that out of her two apostate daughters mom Hawke loved Bethany more. And my Hawke won't forget that. One day a sacrifice would be needed and mom will do. That'll teach her.ReallyRue wrote...

Some of you should never talk to a griving person, you have all the tack and emotional intelegance of an angry walrus.
Hawke was also grieving, not to mention trying to get his/her whole family to safety. Hearing something like that might be enough to just knock the fight out of some people, especially because she never retracts the statement.

Just kidding. As has been said before, people say stupid things while in grief.

Wow, just noticed that everyone addressed carver as the dying sibling. Guess not many people played mages in the demo.
I played all three, but Carver's a tool, so I prefer his death. I will find it difficult to play a mage in the full game, because Bethany will be dead. I might someone who's pissed at the world because he's lost the only person he really cared for...that might be fun.

I lol'd at the 'wake up, the battle's over' line. Yeah, Carver. That's what you did after every other battle when you got your butt kicked by darkspawn.
Seriously though. She's not in her right mind and can't be expected to act rationally. I work at a nursing home. People say some crazy things when people die.

I do wonder if this will affect how Mama Hawke treats Hawke throughout the rest of the story.
Does she remain bitter and continue blaming Hawke for the death of Bethany/Carver?
Does she forgive Hawke?
Oh my god, if she tries to tell me that she forgives me I will jack her in the face. Take that how you will.

And come on, she's trying to blame someone in her grief, surely it should be herself? She slowed them down, she didn't fight and he died protecting her
She better not live in my Hawke's house, if I ever have to see her it should just be so i can insult her
