@AlexXIV There are times I would've appreciated an apology. But I accept that I'm not really the focus of their concern. This situation is different of course. If my mother blamed me for my brother's death after he tried to defend her from an ogre, I would eventually like an apology. I'm just saying I understand that after the initial shock of losing a loved one, it's hard to be rational. If she continues to hold it against me for the whole game I'll be peeved, otherwise I'm willing to let it slide.

Too much?

I know it sucks to be blamed for that morons death but do you need do go that far?

I'd just sacrifice her to get +2 constitution for example. Sacrificing procedure may or may not include enchanted flesh-eating nug zombies.

Actually, it must include them. Nug zombies are awesome - like ninja pirates (hello Isabella).

I've heard people say stupid remarks like that without having lost a child. I don't think there is a prerequisite for Mama Hawke to be a perfect character, is there? You know what I think would have been a much worse scenario?

MamaHawke: Don't worry about your brother son, we have to push on.

Wesley: I could say a few words.

MamaHawke: Nonsense! I'll grieve later because my emotions are a voluntary response and I never act irrationally. Press on!

And yet Bethany doesn't. Hawke doesn't.

Hawke or Bethany could have just as easily said "Mother, why did you let him run towards the Ogre?!" But they kept themselves composed.

Losing a brother is no easier than losing a son.

There is a middle-ground betwen being a emotive psycho and stone.

Something along the lines:

MamaHawke: Oh, gods, Carver..bla..bla...we must move on, or his sacrifice will be meaningless.

Is a pretty sensible reaction. Or at least she should headbutt herself for letting him getting killed. But the whole "OMG ITS YOUR FAULT!!" is....Posted Image

Momma Hawke: It's all your fault!
Hawke: Muuuum! I didn't even get the Option!
Momma Hawke: That's not an excuse!
Hawke: Fine, I'm leaving. And by the way, I wouldn't have chose that option!

Well, Hawke wanted to make sure her hair was presentable, then she remembered she needed to put on her makeup, then she had to decide what pair of shoes she wanted to wear...

Glad to have a fan :D

Also, all trolling aside. Her reaction against Hawke was a little ridiculous. I would expect her to seek comfort from her other children, rather than seek to place blame on them. But it's not as though you actually connect with these characters given how early they're introduced and killed off, so I don't see what the real complaint here is beyond a momentary lapse in Gaider's usually fantastic writing.

Your brother died in a very horrible way right in front of your mother, you expect her to be rational while she is holding his warm corpse?

Which she hits. It isn't like she stomps her feet, continues to blame Hawke, and refuses to leave her son there and gets them all killed in the process. Emotive psycho is as much an exaggeration as stone is. People don't always make rational decisions under stress, considerably more those who aren't trained in the military (in Hawke's case) or an apostate mage used to combat (in Bethany's case).

What if MainHawke suddenly snaps out of his rational way of thinking and goes "NO U!" and slaps her. Outrageous huh?

It's really weird that she says to Carver after he died, "I'll never forget you."  Obviously she won't forget him, he's her son.  It felt like it was faked and forced of her to say that, as though it were daytime soap quality.  She probably should've just kept crying like a normal human.

You don't see Hawke and Bethany blaming their mother for Carver's death.

So yes, while I don't expect MamaHawke to be "Whatevs let's just go" - I do not condone her blaming her own child for the death of her other child, when it was MamaHawke herself who was physically closest to Carver to physically stop him.

No child needs his/her mother blaming them for the death of their brother.

Carver tried to play hero and Mama Hawke was the reason he tried so both are to "blame" for what happened. When I talked to her the first time I was like "What? I didn't do anything wrong!" but when I thought about it I could totally understand why she blamed Hawke. She can't really blame Carver since he's dead and nobody likes to admit they are to blame, though I think somewhere inside she does blame herself. Its human nature to blame someone when something goes wrong. Lots of couples blame each other when their child dies even though its neithers fault and even though Hawke is her child instead of husband/wife, she picked Hawke because he/she was more or less "the man of the family". In her mind Hawke was suppose to protect them like a parent would and he/she failed and I think she realizes that she failed to and we"ll get to see her blame herself later.
