I'd just sacrifice her to get +2 constitution for example. Sacrificing procedure may or may not include enchanted flesh-eating nug zombies.DinoSteve wrote...

Too much?
Actually, it must include them. Nug zombies are awesome - like ninja pirates (hello Isabella).

MamaHawke: Don't worry about your brother son, we have to push on.
Wesley: I could say a few words.
MamaHawke: Nonsense! I'll grieve later because my emotions are a voluntary response and I never act irrationally. Press on!

I've heard people say stupid remarks like that without having lost a child. I don't think there is a prerequisite for Mama Hawke to be a perfect character, is there? You know what I think would have been a much worse scenario?

And yet Bethany doesn't. Hawke doesn't.
Hawke or Bethany could have just as easily said "Mother, why did you let him run towards the Ogre?!" But they kept themselves composed.
Losing a brother is no easier than losing a son.

There is a middle-ground betwen being a emotive psycho and stone.
Something along the lines:
MamaHawke: Oh, gods, Carver..bla..bla...we must move on, or his sacrifice will be meaningless.
Is a pretty sensible reaction. Or at least she should headbutt herself for letting him getting killed. But the whole "OMG ITS YOUR FAULT!!" is....

Hawke: Muuuum! I didn't even get the Option!
Momma Hawke: That's not an excuse!
Hawke: Fine, I'm leaving. And by the way, I wouldn't have chose that option!

It is your fault...you should have left earlier..why was you hanging around you indecisive fool.
Some champion you turned out to be.
Well, Hawke wanted to make sure her hair was presentable, then she remembered she needed to put on her makeup, then she had to decide what pair of shoes she wanted to wear...

Glad to have a fan
Also, all trolling aside. Her reaction against Hawke was a little ridiculous. I would expect her to seek comfort from her other children, rather than seek to place blame on them. But it's not as though you actually connect with these characters given how early they're introduced and killed off, so I don't see what the real complaint here is beyond a momentary lapse in Gaider's usually fantastic writing.

Which she hits. It isn't like she stomps her feet, continues to blame Hawke, and refuses to leave her son there and gets them all killed in the process. Emotive psycho is as much an exaggeration as stone is. People don't always make rational decisions under stress, considerably more those who aren't trained in the military (in Hawke's case) or an apostate mage used to combat (in Bethany's case).

What if MainHawke suddenly snaps out of his rational way of thinking and goes "NO U!" and slaps her. Outrageous huh?

You don't see Hawke and Bethany blaming their mother for Carver's death.
So yes, while I don't expect MamaHawke to be "Whatevs let's just go" - I do not condone her blaming her own child for the death of her other child, when it was MamaHawke herself who was physically closest to Carver to physically stop him.
No child needs his/her mother blaming them for the death of their brother.
