I know some fellas who say they prefer playing as females because they prefer to look at the tail end of a female toon for dozens of hours as apposed to a male, but I'm the kind of guy who tries to 'be' my character, and I have a harder time being a gender that I am not.
However, now that the game is fully voiced, I'll be more open to playing a female. I think that's the benefit of cinematic story progression. I had never prior to Mass Effect played a female toon, but in that game I greatly enjoyed Jennifer Hale's Shepard, and I'm sure I'll enjoy Jo Wyatte's Hawke.

I'm hoping this will be the first Bioware game where the majority of players play as a female protagonist. Usually in Bioware games the vast majority of players play as the male protagonist, but for some reason I get the feeling that a lot of people (at least here on the boards) are going female protagonist for this game.
Bioware should have stats on this from the demo, so tell us!
Why does this even matter to anyone?

I'm happy that Bioware has given us the option of playing a female character and that they've given female Hawke some exposure (like the recent Fenris demo thing). It's great that people can choose. How they ultimately choose isn't as important to me as the presence of the choice.

I'll be playing Garrett 99% of the time and maybe one playthrough with Marian. I've always played as male characters in DA:O so I guess that won't change. That and Garrett delivers the serious lines way better than Marian. Her sarcastic/aggressive lines don't sound imposing at all.
Have you heard Female Hawke Warrior's "Bravery" sound?

I'll be playing both multiple times. I had an equal number of male and female grey wardens. I play m!Shep more often than f!Shep. I relate to both male and female characters. I perhaps do have a preference for playing male characters, but that is for lots of reasons, and here probably isn't the right place to discuss them.
Pretty much summed up my answer perfectly.
I probably will start off with a M!Hawke first, but it may be one of those things where I alternate between Hawke saves over the course of the game.

The Male Hawke has a far better voice IMO and i know alot of people share that opinion.

His voice is pretty good, no doubt.
When he delivered one of the more sarcastic/joke-y lines, I knew right away it fit that particular Hawke I had in mind perfectly.

i'll have multiple playthroughs of both.
However, the Ladyhawke VO has me leaning towards play female first, which is not something i usually do.

I have my hopes for this game after all. Big games nowadays... I've just completed Killzone 3 - it was ok, but multiplayer is so-so... I don't really know what to play until March, I'll probably stick to reading books.
