You can F/F romance isabella. I can't NOT play as a female character.
^ This!
You and him and me think alike. The F/F relationships are the main reasons I like females in Bioware games. I love Liara and Kelly from Mass Effect, and Leliana from Origins. Also, if I'm going to play as a character for hours on end, it might as well be someone attractive to watch rather than some dude.

I found that the Femhawke had a lot more emotion to her voice than Male Hawke... my god, it was male Shepard all over again. Sounding like an android.

I'll likely play both, but start with Femhawke.
This, but the majority of my playthrus will be with a femHawke....same as every MMO, ME and DA game

What this person said:)
In addition I prefer strong female protagonists in fiction
eg: Buffy, Xena, Sydney Bristow, Nikita, etc...

I don't know actually, I'm already dead-set on romancing Isabela as a woman and I actually quite like the default female Hawke's look, the blood-smear, the messy hair and those eyes
In fact, I may not even change her appearence
It's likely that I'll do the same as I did in Origins with my male elf and male human - play both at the same time, alternating between the two, but with a male and female Hawke instead.

I prefer male characters, being male myself.
I know some fellas who say they prefer playing as females because they prefer to look at the tail end of a female toon for dozens of hours as apposed to a male, but I'm the kind of guy who tries to 'be' my character, and I have a harder time being a gender that I am not.

However, now that the game is fully voiced, I'll be more open to playing a female. I think that's the benefit of cinematic story progression. I had never prior to Mass Effect played a female toon, but in that game I greatly enjoyed Jennifer Hale's Shepard, and I'm sure I'll enjoy Jo Wyatte's Hawke.
This is a bit silly... I'm a male but I often prefer playing a female character in a RPG.. not because I want to stare at the character as some sort of sexual fantasy, but because it's far more ... unusual... to see a hero that is a female rather than the steretypical male.
All of human history is littered with male heroes or icons... be they legend or truth... Alexander the Great, King Arthur, Julius Caesar, William Wallace, etc etc.. the list is bloody endless.... what we seldom have (or at least hear of due to ****** poor record keeping over the centuries) is female icons / heroes.... Joan of Arc (the legend version anyway) is one of the few I can think of off hand.... Women have done great and world changing things in our species history, but often it was very cloak and dagger -- they relied on subtle manipulation and espionage because they lived in a man's world that severely restricted their actions.
In a game however, we can experience something far cooler than just playing another Alexander or King Arthur or Sir Lancelot... we can be Joan of Arc ... a heroine.... this to me as a male, is far more interesting / different than just being another male hero.... We already play in a world of elves, magic and dwarves... why not alter that fantasy even further by making the hero really come out of left field... a female hero.
Different is fun... playing the same grizzled dude hero over and over and over in 99% of video games is dull. A heroine gives us something out of the norm and refreshingly different.

You are right that is exactly my reasoning for playing female characters. If I have to stare at anybody's **** for hours at a time it is a least going to be a female one

I'm hoping this will be the first Bioware game where the majority of players play as a female protagonist. Usually in Bioware games the vast majority of players play as the male protagonist, but for some reason I get the feeling that a lot of people (at least here on the boards) are going female protagonist for this game.
Bioware should have stats on this from the demo, so tell us!
While I would love to watch beautiful female character in action... I always end up playing as a male character. Easier for me to relate to, I guess (and this time around the character finaly has a BEARD, how can I pass that up?!). But gender is pretty much only thing I usualy limit myself with. I can go with any race and have different looking characters. It's just something I pefere, nothing against female characters. I wish BioWare would promote their game sometimes with a female character, just for the equality's sake and to see if more women would buy it that way.
Male warrior is usualy the path I take, I like to be able to protect the party and I got simple tastes when it comes to combat. I usualy don't do the fancy stuff as long as I can get the job done in the simple and less time consuming way. I almost always play as the "good guy", because there is no reason to act like a douche bag, the games RARELY reward you acting like it. If the "douche-way" would get better ressults, I might consider it more often. But ofcourse, sometimes it's nice to be the jerk in a game.

Since I can have gay characters, I will always play a gay male character and give him some motivation for being gay. Too bad Fereldan always has gay guys as their heroes (in my worlds anyway). What is up with that??
Rainbow power?

As a quick addendum, I did play as a Female in Mass Effect 2, but only because I really, really think that Shepherd is a goody goody at heart, and I had to dissasociate myself from him as much as possible. Hearing him say anything renegade just sounds odd. It was easier for me to hear the Female Shepherd talk like that, for some reason. She has a really deep voice.
