Change I most dislike is going from Lelianna and Morrigan to Merrill and Isabella

I agree, (noticable downgrade) but I thought this was about mechanical changes.

This is relative, we don't really know any character.

Whats relative? Merrill isnt F/F and Isabella is ugly, chuby, old pirate sl*t ... I cant imagine anything that would convice me that Isabella and Lelianna are same league and game wise nothing will convicne Lady Hawke either =)

I mean Lelianna was awesome written LI ... she was cute and kinda shy, but with dark history and "daddy issues" ... she wasnt that easy to conquer and she was just adorable when hit on etc. I really enjoyed messing with her head ...

on the other hand Isabella is like "hey you, wanna have sex? coz i would do anyone, maybe varic can come too"

For me the biggest gripe is the UI. Sorry but it looks out of place and very sterile more akin with sci-fi.

Where's the classic style book menu like most rpg's have. I know that it's good to take risks and try something new but this doesn't fit in at all. Vibrant colouring system of the ability symbols is just confusing as far as which era it's meant to be set in.

The book varric has at the begining could of been implemented in some way for the menu system instead, with a more fantasy stylised appearance.

I'm actually really looking forward to the game and I know bioware are trying their best to make it fresh and appealing to the majority but some things have gone a bit too far, is all.

Music has a classic feel of the old rpg's, which is very good though.

So I just started playing Dragon Age: Origins last week... burned through it in 4 days and after all the fun I get to this forum and hear that everything is changing?! For me... I disliked the combat of DAO... I felt that unless you had special powers your simple attacks didn't do anything.

However redisigning races is not cool. And it seems they took the worst feature of ME2 (the lack of ability to change armors) and applied that to DA2. Guess we have to look forward to alternate appearance packs for DA2 as well.

1. Aweful looking and feeling combat. The feeling of realism is completely gone.

2. Overall graphics. Be it character models, enemy models, backround or UI. A giant step backword.

3. The wheel o' dialog. 'Nuff said.

You can see that the game is catered towards younger console gamers, or at least console gamers in general. In all aspects.

I am neither very young nor a console gamer, so to me it's a huge dissapontment, at least according to the beta.

I hope the full version will prove me wrong, since due to lack of other games atm I will still buy it.

But I doubt it.

hrm.

1. not having 3 races to choose from. (and consequently not being able to play an elf arcane warrior)

2. the huge swords. seriously.

3. no party aoe on hard? did I read that right? buh? man... thats... kinda sad if its true... thats the whole reason I play hard to make it more realistic.

The fact you cannot change companions clothes

The paraphrase wheel

-Not being able to chat with my companions in the field :(

-The long heal cooldown time.

-Not really something I dislike, but I'm on the fence with the dialogue wheel. Not sure if I like or dislike that one yet.

So far, from the demo.

1.Battle system is good but, theres no auto attack, and the combat animation is not fluid, and too fast to be realistic.(You just dont go around swinging a sword thats fast because of the weigh.).So far the Battle system looks like a Action RPG(point click walk and attack, but is not fluid in this game).

2.Theres NO AoE friendly fire(this make the battle look cheesy, unrealistic, untactical compare to DAO.

3.Graphic- The game feel downgraded just to add more DETAIL to the game, armor, land, character, comparing it to DAO. (I dont like this on PC, you can do that on consoles)

4.The hud is not bad, but the UI get confusing when you grow a level and need to change between character on the menu.

5. Theres a contradiction on the way how Flemeth looks on DA2 demo, compare to the original DA.

I can add many more, but so far the battle system is the one I don’t like completly, is not that wrongly implemented but it need better animation, a little slow so it be more fluid and realistic, I say again you can’t go around waving a 2 handed like that. I dont know why there was people arguing about how slow DAO was, for me it was very well done for a classic RPG style, if you wanted something faster, go play God of war or something hack n slash, and when you wanted something more RPG classic style come back to DA but dont come to the forum to argue about DAO RPG style combat, when it actualy was slow but fluid. So that Bioware come out with this unfluid crappy battle system that you see in game like HACK// G.U. = console crap.

thank you have nice day.

Well my major grip of the change is Darkspawn art. Hurlocks arent suppose to at like Genlocks, plus Hurlocks are suppose to be in a suit of armor like in DAO.

I will say i really liked the art change through and the combat system. I actually feel like the main character is part of the team now. Thats one problem i had about DAO and the fact that being Elf, Dwarven, or Human didnt really affect how you were treated by certain NPCs. So character only being Human doesnt bother me lol.

Things I don't like...weapon restriction, the lack of a free moving camera, and the over the top combat abilities or movements(not sure what to call it). And I'm not to keen on the art direction but I'll wait until the game is out before I get too excited about anything.

Ah! that also was one thing I dislike, the way the Darkspawn looks now. Is crappy compare to the ones in DAO. Atleast the scout ones on the demo.

Mostly the lose of the tactical camera view

Also, the dialogue trees felt more shallow, but hard to say after only the short demo

 In order
  • Loss of tactical camera (isometric view)
  • Not being able to change my party's gear
  • Speed of the fighting
  • Cartoonish art direction
  • Ridiculous animations and loss of immersion due to a total lack of any realism

Models of Flemeth and Darkspawn, overall art design is not my thing. Way too cartoonish. About combat animations, yes they are stupidly flashy and not very realistic or practical, but I got used to them. And it was a nice to see Jedi Guardians jump attack from Kotor added to Rogues. :)

After a quick play session in the newly released demo I feel like crying.
Bioware would have done much better by just making a new expansion to DAO.
The mechanics of DA2 is absolutely horrible on the PC.
The camera controls drove me insane. (Having to switch between characters to switch camera position is tedious and I constantly found myself scrolling the cursor to the screens edges with no response in camera movement)
The crazy acrobatics is just plain lame. (IF you want acrobatics play Devil may Cry)
The game had lost all sense of depth, especially in combat.
And it felt more like an on-rails hack'nslash than anything else. (This might be due to the demo being designed that way, and lacking several features)

This might actually be the first Bioware game I deside not to buy. Although I'm still really excited about the story, so I might just pick it up just for that.

Thinking about it, I actually believe Diablo 3 will have more depth than DA2 and that is pretty outragous. In the olden days of old, when Baldurs Gate was the pinnackle of RPGs, we used to laugh at Diablo for being so shallow. Now the tables might just have been turned.

I would have the say -

1. The camera and lack of decent combat views.

2. The targeting of AOE spells is now almost impossible (partly due to my first point).

3. And the cartoony combat moves, with the flashing and the swishing and the twirling that distracts me (in Prof Frink voice). It's almost impossible to tell what's going on on the battlefield, because of the frantic combat moves.

1. The new "power rangers minions like" Darkspawns.

2. French VO. Usually, french voices in games are bad. Bioware's games however, tend to have decent voices in french versions. But this time, it's not the case. They are totally wrong and awful. So i hope Bioware gives us the option to use english voices in french copies of the game because i will be unable to play the game if it's not...

For me it is to narrowed down, the scope isn't there that was in da:o. The recent EGM artical saying it is made to inforce the idea that you and hawke are not one and the same also troubles me, and lastly I miss being able to make choices, and the frame narrative set character model limits my choices greatly.

Someone needs to remind the people that worked on DA II of the old saying. "If it ain't broke don't fix it, don't even think about fixing it, if you try to fix it I will stab you and not in a good place then I will leave your corpse to be eaten by buzzards." Or maybe it just goes if it ain't broke don't fix it, but around here we likes the longer one.
