Flemeth is busy trying to secretly search for the great and terrible threat to the world as we know it - a threat that has carefully hidden itself away until it is ready to burst forth.  A threat that makes even archdemons shake in terror.  A threat that will one day paint the entire world in great splashes of blood.


On the very, very rare occasions when she actually dares to mention this terror, she refers to it as "The great and hideous thing that is to come."


You, on the other hand, usually to refer to it as "Sandal".

(another outlandish theory) what if when the tevinter mages corrupted the golden city they also corrupted the maker turning him into some evil thing that you must stop from destroying everything he created.

Anyone think that the Tevinter created the Darkspawn by somehow tainting the Dragons they worshipped and the whole religion thing just got blown out of proportions.

It might be intentional on her part.  In the first game she probably wanted to pass as a more or less harmless old woman.  In this game, she really doesn't appear to care what the protagonist thinks of her so she's free to appear in a different fashion.

The fact that she's confirmed to be a shapeshifter just makes it even easier to rationalize.

the change is because it was necessary to get Hawke to do what she wanted. if she looked in origens like she does now the warden would have said get off your ass and help me with the blight. And on the other hand if she showed up to Hawke as on old helpless woman he would laugh and ask if her army of cats were going to get him away from the darkspawn.

And Morrigan will even say in DA:O that perhaps she changes to a more alluring form in order to seduce Chasind men, so it's not like the idea of "Hot Flemeth" came out of nowhere.
