Frankly, I don't think he'll be in the game, which is annoying as he was one of the most interesting characters. Here's why:

He had only a few months to live in ME2. Since we know the reapers will be here by ME3, and that it will presumably take them a while to get here (otherwise they wouldn't need the citadel for rapid transport), it seems likely he'll be dead by then.

If romanced, his LOTSB dossier includes a letter from him that strongly implies he won't see shepard again. Link

It was very easy for him to die in the suicide mission. You could choose him as tech specialist, he would die if you didn't get the weapons upgrade, and he is first on the list of who dies if your biotics specialist isn't up to scratch.

As much as I love Thane, I hope he is not in ME3. It would just feel like Bioware wimping out and throwing a bone to the fanbase, at the cost of believability.

However, if ME3 takes place very shortly after ME2 or there is some other very plausible way that they bring him back, I certainly won't be complaining.

And by VERY plausible, I mean something other than Mordin discovering a miracle cure.

No. He will be there. I am sure of it. Because ME3 takes place directly after ME2. It doesn't take the Reapers years to get to Earth, as far as I know. They get there really fast. I just don't know how but they will get there really fast and so characters will not be lost.

He'll probably die during the course of ME3, but he'll be there long enough to provide romantic closure. Also, offscreen deaths are cheap.

I hope Thane, Jack, pig faced Miranda, grunt, Jacob, mordin, Samara, and Kasumi don't come back in ME3. I only want zaeed, and legion comming back because they're badasses

Grunt and Jack weren't badass enough?

Grunt is a Wrex wannabe and Jack is just a generic loser character who pretends to be cool

Aria will be your Asari squadmate - her part in ME2 was too big yet relatively unexplored for her not to be in ME3

I like Grunt myself. Take him with me all the time. A Krogan can't learn battle by sitting down in the cargo bay of a ship humming to himself!

I do want Thane back in ME3. Not only do I find offscreen deaths cheap, I also want a chance for Shepard to either find a cure for him or be there to see him die because of his illness.

He may be in the game but I doubt he will be a squad member. He is dying after all. I imagine he will want to spend what remains of his life with his son or tying up loose ends.

He has 8 months, and I think the Reapers are going to be in the Milky Way, and Earth, within 8 months

If anything, I bet they'll have some emotional goodbye with his future death implied (if you romanced him).

Like Cheez said, off-screen deaths are pretty lame, so I doubt he'll die before ME3, but maybe after?

Who knows..

I liked Grunt as well. He was good to have if you could use him to some sort of advantage.

I don't believe they will have him die off before ME3 otherwise they should of had an ending in ME2 with him die. I mean why the effort to keep him alive if he dies anyway before the next game?

After ME3 we will probably get an epilogue like DAO that recaps what happens to all the characters. Perfect opportunity for Thane to die.

No, you're not. I liked him a lot. Some people just hate everyone, which gets really annoying.

More necroing here than the Reapers.

Seriously, what compells people to find a year-old thread and comment on it? How do people even FIND these threads?! Just let the dead die!
