I see tons of articles dissecting the demo and all the cool things, but (like TONS of others), it wont work past the initial fight sequence with the two intro characters. Then then the dwarf says "let me tell you what really happened", and WHAMMO... "Dragon Age II has encountered an error".

I have tried minimum textures, wondowed mode, no AA, no VSync etc. No avail. It will not work. I got past the stupid DirectX.dll missing, but so far, I am not impressed. I have this thing pre-ordered, and if this is any indication how Bioware/EA is going to start treating games, count me out.

Direct X 11 does not work in the demo, but its not DISABLED by code, knows bugs exist in the demo per thier own forum posts. The "this issue is resolved in the retail product" line have me skeptical.

Quad Core Intel iCore7 with 6GB Ram and a kickin Radeon card wth Windows 7? Yeah, not my rig people.

Either A) dont release a demo or B) dont hype the damn demo if you know there are issues.

Anyone want a collectors edition when its released? I have a feeling my pre-order will go to the next person in line. Image IPB

dude this demo was made a long time ago 99.9% of these bugs will not be in the final product and the remaining .01 wont be game breaking and they will be fixed within a week of the games release.

Dude, a demo is put out so possible customers can try before they buy. Dude, if the demo is seriously FUBAR, then one can assume that the same attention to detail is paid in the making of the game. If I play a demo and it's screwed, I pass on the game no matter how much I liked it predecessor or wait until it's half price. Just like Settlers 7 and C&C 6. So Dude, if they are going to put a demo out after all the testing from a Alpha and Beta, the damn demo should work. Dude

I just want my Ancient Elven Boots bugfix...oh wait, wrong DA game. But seriously, claiming that all bugs will be fixed within a week of the game's release is neither realistic nor supported by past events. At least there's a good chance that this DA game will work reliably on systems with more than two CPU cores...

I was having the DA demo crash after the "that's not what happened" part, too. I was encountering this with the demo I downloaded from the DA main site.

I re-downloaded it through Steam and the problem went away. *shrug*

I had this problem and dropping it back to DX9 rendering fixed it for me. In another thread someone said that turning off VSync fixed it for them.

I'm not a power user. Took 4 hours to download the demo and it won't play past the dwarf say, "here's what really happened". I think I'll give the game a pass. I hate these things being released and then you have tyo contantly wait for fixees. Get it right or keep the bloody thing.

You have to disable vsync and it will go away. If you have it disabled in the game and you're still crashing, it's because your video card's control panel/drivers are forcing it. You need to change that. After you get past the character creation screen, you can turn on vsync again and there won't be anymore crashes.

If you want help fixing these issues, at least post your hardware specs and driver versions.

Well, the very fact that people CAN play with through with no crashes or bugs that stop play in its tracks prove that the problem is not with just the demo itself! This seems obvious otherwise EVERYONE would have the crashing problem.

People automatically blame the games when things go wrong and incorrectly start to give the demo a negative reputation.

Not talking about anyones PC or set up in particular, but its if not the demo, its the PC hardware (defective/not fast enough), dodgy install or download (missing files etc) or conflicting/defective/older software (older Directx  version, older drivers etc).

Just my opinion but  in regard to the current bugs (that are not bad enough to stop play) I doubt that this demo is the retail games current state up to last week. They may have had it made from awhile ago and have done updates to the retail since.

They would need time to get a demo packaged (i say packaged as it sems to be choice parts pasted together) so I doubt this is the latest version we are seeing. If this makes sense..

This isn't the least bit helpful - but then again ****ing about the demos 'bugs' isn't either, so what the hey.. - but I'm playing on a laptop spec'd below the recommended, and I've literally not encountered a single problem. Whilst the PC version's a little rough around the edges (which is to be expected), the 360's is pristine. Perhaps more critical errors are simply hardware/software conflicts? I dl'd the demo from the DA2 site, btw, which took about 20mins.

(the only error I encountered was the missing .dll (I think?), and there are two very helpful workarounds on this board)
