I was wondering whether anyone usually beats Rylock and her templars using just three mages. I can't do it but I'm not the best player. I really need help formulating tactics for mages to use against templars, I guess

disable the "self: any | activate sustained," which your team will just try to reactivate and get cleansed again. just burn them down.

Use damage spells instead of CC.

hmm, I was trying both those suggesting and the templars just wipe the floor with me. My PC mage is a primalist, Anders healing, and Velanna blood mage. I just suck so much
edit: still, it's encouraging to know it's possible.

Solo run on nightmare with a mage against those templars in the warehouse.
Blood Mage / Keeper / Battle Mage.
Have active before combat: Spell Wisp, Spell Might, Arcane Field, Blood Magic.
As soon as the battle starts cast: Blood Magic, activate One With Nature, the cast Vulnerability Hex on any one of them, they are close so it will affect them all. Continue casting: Hand of Winter, Thornblades, Fireball, Nature's Vengence. They should be dead in a matter of seconds really, if still alive cast Blood Wound again and repeat. Make sure your spellpower is high then you'll do a lot more damage.
Good luck.

Ah, I guess one problem is something I forgot to mention - I don't use potions so I've had to put points in Willpower, reducing my spellpower.
Still, I will use the respec tomes to try your spec suggestions. thankya =)

Perhaps you could tell what you DO have... stats and spells would be a good start!

Qell, my hope was that people would share their strategies... but sure. Mind you, I'm not asking for anyone to try to find a way for this party to beat them, but just since you ask here it is.
(I tried an approach closer to war4n0th1n9's suggestion (having respecced them so they're low-willpower lyrium addicts with Spell Might), and my Warden still died, but the other two managed to pull it off despite frustrating amounts of spell resistence from those awful templars. So this post might just be academic, although I'd prefer not to use lyrium and would still like to hear from other ppl who use willpower instead, if anyone else does
)
Without any respeccing (they all have stone fist and mind blast):
-My Warden is lvl27 with specs in Arcane Warrior, Battlemage, and Keeper. He has the full AW line but doesn't have any spells in the latter two, however. He has spellpower of 90, nearly all the Primal spells, the full paralyze line, the full telepathy line, and two hexes.
He has also Wade's Superior Dragonskin armor (+4 mana regen.), the Staff of the Magister Lord (+2), Andruil's Belt (+1), & Attunement (+2), so plus the +1 base mana regen., he has enough that it offsets the -10 mana regen. from the Shimmering Shield without activating Combat Magic, so my original plan was just to use the Shimmering Shield while he cast damage spells and then when his mana was low (he has 676 mana) just swtich to combat magic and use his staff to slowly pick them off. Needless to say, he can't keep the SS up and they pick on him b/c he has armor on.
- Velanna is lvl27, has a pool of 476 mana, and has spellpower of 82, 3 points in blood magic and 3 points in the Keeper spec. (I hadn't taken the last point in blood magic since you don't get XP from the allies.) Anyway, she's not level 28 yet to get that last Keeper spell. I had been concentrating on entropy for her; she has 3 in hexes, 3 in sleep, and 3 in the bottom line. She also has 3 in the heal line, the 4 fire spells she came with, and up to attunement.
- Anders is also lvl 27, 551 mana, with 78 spellpower. He has the spirit healer line and one spell in battlemage. He also has cone of cold, lightning, the paralyze glyph, walking bomb, drain life, the first hex, two spells in the paralyze line, the Arcane Mastery line, and the Repulsion Field spell.

I would suggest a glyph bomb, its rarely resisted and leaving the small room should allow you to set it up. Cone of cold could trap the templars in the door way. Velanna's keeper line could do this as well. Once they are paralyzed. Focus fire on 1.
I have no idea why you feel you need to run into a brick wall just because it's there.

hmm, a glyph bomb might work!
and it's for roleplaying! I'm playing a mage who distrusts all these unwashed, mage-phobic mundanes and who doesn't want to become a lyrium addict, especially since the lore has lyrium being very rare and mostly from the Chantry (even though the game makes it a common loot).

Manual of Focus is a good idea.
Arcane Warrior is a bad idea.
Potions I suggested because I don't know your current equipment, nor did I look.
Personally playing as a mage I never used potions.
With the following equipment you will never need to either: Vestiments of the Seer, Winter Boots, Lifegiver, Sash of Forbidden Secrets. Two of these boost willpower, two boost constitution. Utilize health to cast most spells first because the sash has: "improves blood magic" that gives you a 25% lower health cost to cast spells (A LOT cheaper casting then mana). Invest in skills: Vitality first, then Clarity.
Any battle start with a blood wound (unless the enemies are immune), then activate one with nature, and let them come. Battlemage has a passive spell "Stoic" 50% of damage taken converted into mana, and if you have one with nature active, every enemy near you takes nature damage and you gain health. Invulnerable mage.

good old crushing prison hot keyed on all my mages followed by whatever you want
of course if you dont build mages the way i do get a force feild and crushing prison on Rylock
if your as pimped as my mage the resulting blast will just about kill her lackeys!
half the battle is won however im a love retreating fireballing the room follow it up with sleep then walking nightmare on one cone of cold will keep them contained whilst my templar lackey kills his own mates (i cant help but cackle like palpatine while doing it kill him kill him..........i mean her)
*warning i almost always loose all my companions whilst doing this*

I do that more times than I would care to confess.
