This + potions queuing after auto-attacks really slows down combat and seems be counterproductive to the combat improvements they were trying to make. Hopefully it’s a demo only thing.

It is because you can’t target the mobs themselves with it, if you click on the ground it goes through but if you click on the mob it won’t. It’s really annoying. But I think its to prevent it from following the targeted mob itself in case it runs away.

The problem happens even when clicking on the ground, from my experience. I haven't tried to target an enemy with an AoE spell, only the ground.

Im trying to find the thread but it seems that dev commented on the issue saying "We are trying to fix it for the main version"

Yeah, a dev was kind enough to (rather unexpectedly) update me on another issue I had posted in the forum, so I asked him about the AOE issue... here's what I wrote:
Hey... just another question, if I might... some of us online have been
discussing AOE spells, and the fact that you have to sometimes do some
pixel hunting to find a clear patch of ground to use it. I'm fine with
not being able to target enemies directly with, say, a fireball... but
is it possible to make it so that the AOE targeting icon doesn't
gray-out when you're trying to drop a fireball on a tight groups of
enemies?
And here's the response:
We identified that bug and are looking into it

Day 1 patches/last minute improvements. Just saying.

Ive worked in QA and unfortunately, issues get by all the time. That one is pretty glaring so its pretty weird. But hey, some stuff happens.
