Actually my first Obsidian game was KOTOR2, which I enjoyed until the ending. Got sucked into DAoC and never got around to NWN2. Playing PS:T currently.

If you enjoy PS:T, then it might be worth you picking up NWN2 if only for its first expansion, Mask of the Betrayer. It has a similar feel to Torment, and a fabulous storyline. Lovely game.

I really enjoyed NWN2 for what it was.
And I played a lot of DAOC... which server were you on?
Percival for me, mostly. A few stints on Guin and Nimue.

Then, Mass Effect > Dragon Age > Mass Effect 2, etc.

I liked that these games offered us far more in the way of choices and ways to define our characters that Peter Molyneux's efforts (though i'm an ardant fan of the last two entries in the Fable series).
So to answer the question, it would have been late 2004 or early 2005. Since then i think i've played mostly all of their games (Jade Empire, DA, Mass Effect - and Sonic Chronicles, though i didn't notice they had anything to do with that until seeing a forum here on the social network).
I would have been about 19, and this was shortly before my first tour of duty.

I remember (this was back when I was in secondary school, mind) going to the Compucentre (now defunct) and paying the full price of the game so I could 'preorder' a copy, a practice that was rather less common than it is now. I can still recall the look of the receipt and how excitedly I tore open that box as my dad drove me home. Got home, installed the game, played through the first couple of hours of the game - and then got eaten by giant bug monsters.
Took me forever to get past that point. I do remember seeing the intro cinematic when you go to the Friendly Arm Inn and thinking (likely for the first time) 'I want to make video games.'
Ahh, memories.
When you're dad drove you home?!
Should I be depressed that I was already in college when the first Baldur's Gate game came out?

First game i played was Mass Effect 2, loved it so had to get the ME1. Completed them over 5 times each since Febuary last year.
I got DA:O a few months ago and loved it too. I cant bring myself to go back and play the old old ones, like BG and Kotor.

I must've been seven or eight. Then KOTOR. DAO got me into Mass Effect.

Why? Good question. I liked the box art, I guess. That neverwinter eye in the dark background looked cool lol.
By that time I didn't know any RPG franchises by name. Even though I liked playing RPGs with my friends, I was totally new to computer gaming.
