It was many moons ago I bought BG2 and didn't like it so I gave up on it for about 5 years. But while I was busy ignorning it I played KOTOR in 2003 so I'm not sure which one counts.
I still haven't finished BG2 despite the fact I now love it, something always gets in the way between buying new laptop, reinstalling windows and various other things. I'm currently in Athkatla and was loving it but had to put it on hold while I finish another playthrough of DA:O to carry my save game into DA2. Some day I will finish it...
When did you start playing Bioware games?

What a cool thread.
For me: BG1 (year 1999 or thereabouts?). My friend had it. I came over to his place to watch. He was in chapter 5 and he was doing the battle at the top of the Iron Throne Building) I was blown away. Went out that night to buy it at the store. Best $50 bucks I ever spent.
3 days later I registered an account at the Black Isle message boards. (bioware boards didn't exist back then).

Whenever Mass Effect first came out. I since went onto its sequel, Dragon Age and Jade Empire.

I was picking through some reduced price titles when I had to make a decison between BG2 Collectors Edition and some other game I don't even remember, I picked BG2 because it came with a free t-shirt, it was the best game I had ever played and I have bought and completed every BioWare title since.

Well Bioware came into business fairly late in the game. Been playing computer games over 20 years by then starting with mainframes. I guess my first Bioware was the orginal Baldur's Gate in like 1998. Virtually yesterday.

Mass Effect. I had no idea about Bioware and such up until this generation all I used to play was Fifa and Smackdown (I'm only 14 sooo.. lol) then I remember watching Sentuamessage on inside xbox and seeng that very first teaser for ME2. It was so epic even in that short time that when I saw ME1 pre owned in a shop a few weeks later I brought it. I now own ME1+2 KOTOR and DA:O and have pre ordered DA2

I started playing Bioware games since Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic came out on Xbox in 2002. KOTOR is the best game in the Stars Wars franchise to this day!

I've played IWD a lot. Since there's comparatively little dialogue, and the game is very linear, I'm a bit surprised that I liked it as much as I did. It might be the atmosphere of that game that's so great, and even though I normally don't really notice the music in games, the music in IWD made me replay it several times.TheSarex wrote...
Bah I guess my first one was BG2. Who did Icewind Dale? (that was my first rpg)
Ah, Icewind Dale. I still rate the art direction and music in that game as some of the best ever. Suited the FR setting perfectly. And I loved the Fortress of the Severed Hand. Sigh. I know that a lot of the staff went on to form Obsidian, but damn, I miss Black Isle Studios

Baldur's Gate, and Tales of the Sword Coast. Then BG2, and ToB. Then NWN and its x-packs. KotOR. ME. ME2. DAO. That is about it... so far. I have DA2 preordered, and am eagerly awaiting more news about ME3 and SWtOR.
Edit: almost forgot Jade Empire. Oops. I got that one off of steam during a sale a year or so back, and it was surprisingly fun.

first game: KOTOR
got it after i finished Republic Commando and was on a Star Wars craze. As a matter of fact, I liked KOTOR better (though RC wasn't anything to sneeze at)
Joined in the wake of Mass Effect 2, but had been lurking since Dragon Age Origins

First Bioware game: Dragon Age: Origins
Year: 2010
Why you started playing it: It looked like a good RPG, saw the review on IGN and wanted it.

Baldur's Gate, back in 1998 when it first came out. I always feel weird seeing the release date, because I always feel like I played BG back when I was just a kid, but I was actually in college in 98.

as many have said Baldur's Gate I however got the pack with the second one and all exspantion packs back in like 2001, then got the icewind dale stuff (I know not bioware but comon it was like having a second BG) I have played all there games even that sonic DS one that wasent to bad although I never finished it.... tbh still waiting on a jade Empires sequel.... I think a remake and then a sequel of that for the newest gen consoles wouldent be so bad

Saw a preview of Baldurs Gate in an PC Magazine and started to count the days until it was released, There where not much love for RPG games during the late 90:s, and when a game that looked like it would be an update of the old SSI gold box games, i knew I had to play it.
Played every Bioware (yes even the DS Sonic...) game since, and have had an account on the Forum for most of the time. Thats why i dont bother about the doomsayers on the forum that rant about how horrible DA2 will be... they have sounded basicly the same for every single game.

I forgot to post my join date. I joined this forum in october 2010. But before that I was a member on the old (now archived) forums for many years. I think from may 2004. However, even before that I was member of the now (very old and defunct) Black Isle/Interplay forums from around 1999 or maybe 2001. And I can clearly remember that at that time, Ray and Greg* answered questions on the forums. Now they have people who do this for them - eh- I mean the devs. of course
* For those of you who don't know this, Ray and Greg are the ones that started Bioware way back, I think, in 1995...
edit:
Fort those of you who would want to play Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, they can bought from

technically Baldur's Gate 2 in 2000 but at the time i didn't care for it
didn't really get into Bioware games until KOTOR on the xbox, which came at a good time as i had really gotten sick of jrpg's by that time and needed something refreshing in rpg genre to play

Hubby played BioWare games before I did. Actually DAO was my first because it had the elements I like and COULD play after my strokes damaged my vision center. I LOVE fantasy no space or scifi. I loved the ability to choose the sex and look of your character. I loved the ability to pause so my eyes and brain could sync up and I could actually see what was going on unlike the games I played before that were action games. I just wish I could find more games like DAO to play that had the elements I love.
