Feeling very nostalgic tonight. After reading all the criticism/support for DA2, I'm starting to wonder what Bioware era the community in the DA2 forum is from. Not to criticise, just out of curiosity.
First Bioware game: Baldur's Gate
Year: 1999
Why you started playing it: My friend raved and forced me to buy it.

Please post yours, old or new I wanna see.
Almost exactly the same for me. Except my friend didn't have to force me to buy it.
It was the music that drew me in. 2 am. Work at 6am the same morning and trying figure out why Edmond (was that the red wizards name?) was such an ass and why he was so cool as well. (and strong!)

I don't remember the year... But my first BioWare game was KotOR. I was a huge fan of Star Wars those days. I was shocked! The story of KotOR was amazing. All new characters but the same Star Wars universe. After the first game I played KotOR 2 and I loved this game too!
Then I played Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. At the same time I played Dragon Age with all it's DLC. And recently I started to play Jade Empire. Haven't finished it yet.
But I can say all these games are fantastic!!!

Like many, my first BW game was BG1 - I still regard that time as the golden age of RPG gaming.
I've never played Shattered Steel, MDK2 and Sonic Chronicles.
However, after NWN I lost track of BioWare for a few years - Jade Empire and Mass Effect where Xbox exclusive at release, and I wasn't interested in either of them back then.
DA:O sparked my interest in BioWare again, and I tried ME1 a few weeks before DA:O was released, just to waste some time. And to my surprise, I enjoyed it a lot. And after DA:O I even went back to play JE, and no surprise again, I enjoyed that one as well.

Yes, it was KotOR for me too. I always wanted to play Baldur's Gate but I did not have the PC for it. In fact, I'm playing through it for the first time right now.

Hmm. This thread might have an ulterior motive methinks, But anyway...
First Bioware game: KOTOR
Year: 2005(I think)
Why: It was Star Wars, I had like JRPGs, wanted to try a western RPG.
Since played ME1-ME2, DA:O, DA:A.

Baldur's Gate in the year of release. The other Bioware games I own are all the BG sequels, all the NWN series, the first KOTOR, DAO and DAA. I started lowering my expectations after being disappointed by NWN. Because of that I bought HoTU very late and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I've never bought Mass Effect because I find sci-fi settings less appealing usually, but I should probably give it a shot sometime.

Baldur's Gate... My older brother wanted to play multiplayer in it, and I was picked for the role of a Cleric... I didn't really like it all that much, but we got far in it, then he continued without me and picked me up again for Baldur's Gate 2, I never got far in that(Still got it lying around somewhere) and I just can't get myself to play past that damned fortress full of trolls.

My first Bioware game was in fact Knights of the Old Republic on the Xbox 360.
Then I got the Limited Edition of Jade Empire. (BTW, Varric apparently wanted to name his crossbow Mirabelle, but the name was taken.)

First game I played was in '98 or '99 Baldur's Gate. I did go to the old forums when I needed answers but I didn't join the group until '03 when I got KOTOR and really wanted to talk about it with people who understood my interest.
