"Go for the eyes Boo!" Baldur's Gate of course. I read an article in Strategy Plus and it sounded like it might be interesting. It was.
When did you start playing Bioware games?

My first BioWare game was Baldur's Gate.
I actually bought it from a friend who knew I liked AD&D in 1998, he was not very familiar with AD&D, and I had been playing D&D and AD&D since about 1980. I thoroughly enjoyed BG and followed that up with BG 2 SoA and ToB when they were released, SoA became my favorite of that series.
Of course, I followed the BG series with Neverwinter Nights, SoU, and HoTU, I spent about 4 years playing on a Persistent World campaign using NWN . More recently, I purchased Dragon Age: Origins and Awakenings. In January I pre-ordered Dragon Age II and have played through the DA II Demo 5 times.
Prior to BioWare, SSI had been licensed to publish Pool of Radiance, I still have that series of Forgotten Realms games (on floppy disk) packed safely away...

I've played IWD a lot. Since there's comparatively little dialogue, and the game is very linear, I'm a bit surprised that I liked it as much as I did. It might be the atmosphere of that game that's so great, and even though I normally don't really notice the music in games, the music in IWD made me replay it several times.TheSarex wrote...
Bah I guess my first one was BG2. Who did Icewind Dale? (that was my first rpg)
Ah, Icewind Dale. I still rate the art direction and music in that game as some of the best ever. Suited the FR setting perfectly. And I loved the Fortress of the Severed Hand. Sigh. I know that a lot of the staff went on to form Obsidian, but damn, I miss Black Isle Studios
Me too man, me too.

My family had Baldur's Gate when it first came out, or around that time. I don't remember. I never cared enough to play through the game since I was so young. I remember I mostly just played around in Candlekeep and kept trying to pickpocket Gorion, which never turned out well. I was easily amused back then. And still am.
The first Bioware game I really remember actually playing through was Jade Empire, in 2005, I think?

BG2. I was mostly out of RPGs and completely out of CRPGs, but the CGW demo disc convinced me that I could put up with BG2 despite it using AD&D.

One year I received the Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast pack that they had then-recently come out with as a gift.
(This is something like the fifth time I have tried to post this - every time I try to the post, the forum logs me out before registering my post. Why hasn't this forum been fixed yet?)

Mass Effect 2 in May 2010. I was getting back into consoles after a long run playing a certain insanely popular mmo
Of course I then had to play Mass Effect.
Picked up Dragon Age UE on Oct 30, 2010:happy:

Hm, technically Baldur's Gate (+ Tales of the Sword Coast) for me, but I was a wee lad and had no idea what the heck THAC0 and 1d8 meant, nor did any of the spell mechanics such as memorization make any sense to me because it wasn't explained very well. I remember making a wizard and then giving up after running out of spells.
Neverwinter Nights was the first BioWare game I played through all the way, but even then I still had no idea what the heck any of those terms meant - I was just strong-arming my way through everything, playing as a typical action-RPG sorcerer. It wasn't until after I had gone through the campaign once and played through a couple mods that I realized that the entire thing was based off of DnD, at which point I looked up the rules online and everything actually started to make sense. After that I went back to Baldur's Gate and played through it, followed shortly by BG 2 and ToB. This directly led to my finding and falling in love with PS:T, which in turn led to Fallout 1 & 2.
...and then I looked up other games that I had missed and found gems like The Longest Journey, Grim Fandango, Deus Ex, and Thief. I would have missed all those classics if it hadn't been for BioWare, so a huge thanks to them!
And yes, I had never been exposed to any DnD whatsoever until coming across Baldur's Gate. How that happened, I don't know, but that's why the Dungeons and Dragons, Wizards of the Coast, Forgotten Realms, and other miscellaneous logos identifying the games as based off of PnP were completely lost on me.

Shortly after KotOR came out for Xbox, my mom bought me the guide for my birthday. Not the game, mind you, just the guide. Not that we had an Xbox. Being both a weird kid and a huge Star Wars fan at the time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I played the game on PC a couple years later, and that was my first time playing a Bioware game.

I'm not exactly sure what my first Bioware game was. I think it was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I was walking through Best Buy and saw it so I convinced my brother to buy it
. I stayed up till three in the morning playing that game. It may of also been the free copy of baldurs gate i got from PC gamer. It wasn't until Dragon Age that I started to notice bioware.
Favorite Bioware Game: Dragon Age Origins

Since BG1. I recently bought the baldur's gate complete package with BG1, BG2, and both expansion packs for 20 bucks. It's like 250 hours of content at least. My favorite was KOTOR until the ME franchise was created. DA is actually my least favorite historically, but it's still great.

My dad got me Baldur's Gate in Winter 2001 or 2002. I played it an hour before I got bored and never touched it again until recently. Then in October 2008, after about 5 years of being largely absent from new game releases, the first game I bought was Mass Effect based off some vague recollections of hype from some e-friends. I thought it was promising so I stuck around the forums and eventually tried Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which turned me into a fanatical BioWare/RPG fan. Own and played every BioWare cRPG at least once now, with the except of NWN which I still have to play.

Was shattered steel the one with the runners shiva and such? If so it was that, if not it was probably baldurs gate (which I only bought because it bore a norse gods name and was ad&d).
Hooked by sarevoks laugh in the intro, damn that was a class opener.
