Dragon Age: Origins was my first Bioware game. I didn't even know anything about it when I saw it on the shelf at my local game store. Bought it purely on a whim. The best whim I have ever had.

I'm very new. I remember seeing KOTOR, but back then I pretty much played either my PS1 games or whatever my brother bought for his xbox, and he wasn't into Star Wars. We never really had a computer that could handle a game bigger than Minesweeper, either, so I haven't played BG, etc. The first one was Mass Effect I guess in 2009? And I just played DAO last summer. I normally don't play games until a year or two after they've been released. Bioware's got me there. I bought ME2 last year a couple of months after its release, and I'll be getting DA2 the day it comes out. I can't remember the last time I did that.

Neverwinter Nights Gold Edition! Hordes hadn't even come out by then, so it was around 2002, 2003. I grew up with BioWare. <3

KOTOR, PC version.
Side question. I've bought Mass Effect 1 on Steam, but the download speed is 6+ hours; is this normal or do I need to fiddle with my settings somehow?

Baldur's gate, read a review in a magazine, raving about it. Bought it, because it was fantasy, didn't even know what an RPG was but that game got me hooked.

Glad to see all the people who still love Jade Empire. The most underrated Bioware game, imo.

About exactly 1 year ago. Sorry guys, I'm apparently a Bioware n00b. I got Origins for Christmas 2009 because I thought it sounded Oblivion-ish. I used to consider myself a light gamer. (I guess most people probably still would, but I think the fact that I hang around a video game forum would speak volumes to "normal people"...lol.) I played Oblivion, Fallout, Resident Evil, and Zelda games. That was about it.
Anyway, I got Origins for Christmas and didn't touch it for a while. Too busy with school and planning my wedding. Then during Spring Break last year, I got bored and decided to start Origins... and the rest is history. Sad history that my husband probably hates.
I played Origins and LOVED it. I immediately went out and bought Mass Effect 1 and 2 and loved them. Then I went out and bought KotOR and loved it. I'm still keeping an eye out Jade Empire. At some point I started creeping around the forums, I don't remember.
Basically, I may be a new fan but a large amount of my waking hours have been devoted to Bioware for the past year.

True, but I'm feeling rather magnanimous tonight. Of course, I can promise no such generosity on the part of the other mods, but folks seem to be behaving so I'm willing to be a little lax this time.

KOTOR. Greatest game of all time. I've beaten it half a dozen times, and it never gets old.

first game was actually a sequel to one of bioware's games but made by obsidian: kotor 2. I then got the rest of bioware's games gradually, but I've yet to play them all.

I agree. Combat wasn't the deepest but everything else was top notch. I really hope we get a sequel.

KOTOR in the summer of '05 (a little late, I know) and it remains the most memorable gaming experience of my life, bar none. Went straight to Jade Empire after that and have played every Bioware game since.

First Bioware game: KOTOR (and one of my favourite games ever).
Year: 2005
Why you started playing it: Heard it was amazing from a friend, and the online community. I remember being in the store and holding both Ninja Gaiden Black and KOTOR in each hand, took me about half an hour to decide which to get. One of the tougher video game choices I've had to make on the spot.

Baldur's Gate in '99 for me. Took me away from Carmageddon and King's Quest (whatever the hell number it was - that bastard game) and I haven't looked back since. Was actually introduced to it by my uncle who was a fanatic for games like Diablo (which somehow seemed dull to me) as well as a nerdy D&D boardgame player. Best uncle.
The cutscenes in the Baldur's Gate series were the real teaser that got me hooked, the rest was discovering every inch of the maps to find all the odd little quests and characters that had nothing to do with the main quest. Believe it or not I don't think I fully finished a single Baldur's Gate game, it took me well into the 200 hour range to enjoy every last bit of them.

Baldur's Gate 2, year 2000, the only video game I'd ever played outside of Heroes of Might and Magic and Might and Magic series, the beginning of the end.

I bet Bioware could make a Jade Empire 2 now with all their experience and turn it into a great selling game. It's a Bioware game like any other it had a good story. All they need to do was max combat harder/complex and I think people would have enjoyed it more.
