I wholly support this. In DAO, I put a forcefield on a taunting tank (thought of that on my own although it seems that everyone else did too) and inferno'ed the bunch of crowding darkspawn. Not having FF will make it just too easy/obvious. Spamming fireballs at an early level comes to mind. Bring the FF toggle back in a later patch if the game is already done.

I want, too

Guess I'll have to paly it on nigthmare then, damn.
awakening was easy on nightmare though and considering that DA2 is balanced for a gamepad control, nightmare should be quite easy. I'll give it a try.

There have been many fine points brought up against a checkbox being impractical from the devs' point of view. I've therefore modified the top thread to ask for a new "extreme mode" which is just hardcore with friendly fire turned on. This should involve nearly zero effort for the devs provided that FF checks aren't just nightmare checks in their code.

From my point of view, and I don't know if you agree with this, FF should be prioritized for elemental and entropy spells. There are plenty of immersion-friendly reasons that mind spells, glyphs, and certain melee AOE effects can still be exempt from friendly fire.

It's also true that perhaps I should have reserved judgment before trying Nightmare. But as a mage I found the Ogre fight not terribly easy on normal, so I expect I will have similar difficulties on Nightmare (at least at the lower levels) as I did in DAO.

Why are you requesting something after they clearly announced the game had gone golden weeks ago?...

Because the top post clearly suggests the feature be included in the first patch?

Wouldn't it just be easier to have a FF toggle in the options menu (that is greyed out and set to "on" in Nightmare)?

Because I couldn't be bothered to read the post because the threads title should have explained it...

I support FF on Hard or whatever like difficulty could be implimented, despite what BioWare was trying to do with their difficulty levels:

easy - poorly play main char and win
normal - optimal play of main and win
hard - porrly play group and win
nightmare - optimal party play and win

FF is necessary for immersion for us old school D&D ers... / gamers.

Yes, no friendly-fire is ridiculous. And nightmare is too hard if you have a life.

Not a bad idea, it doesn't hurt anybody. If the devs can't/won't do it then a mod would be nice.

I personally plan to play only nightmare. If that's what you play from the get go then it just becomes normal.

buuut...

You thought nightmare was too hard on DA:O...really? All 3 classes could be built to take less than 5 damage a hit in melee and that didn't even take good gear if you went with Arcane Warrior (glad its gone tbh).

Whatever you do, please don't introduce ff into normal difficulty. It's cool that yall are looking for a challenging separate game mode, but in a game where healing is already on a longer cooldown and 'more tactical' I'd like to serve some decent function as a mage without worrying about screwing my group over. So, cool! Make a seperate game mode with ff! But whatever you do, please do not bring it back into normal difficulty.

I personally prefer FF on normal like in DA:O, but that didn't include melee and things like scattershot sooooo having everything be a potential source of FF with the changes to healing might end up being a little over the top for normal.

Well, once I hit level 13 or so I turned DAO up to Nightmare because hardcore was too easy once my mage build was nearing completion. But when I started a new game in nightmare, I just kept dying. The last straw were the mobs in Lothering. A bunch of starving refugees made quick work of my highly trained nobleman, witch of the wilds, Templar, and warhound.

It's not that I couldn't win---I could, with enough tries---it's all the reloading that got to me. I knew that if I persevered I would eventually break on through, but gaming should be fun, not work.

In any case you are right... if I just start DA2 in nightmare it might feel like normal eventually.

I think you needn't worry, normal will certainly not be touched by our current proposal. I'd guess the devs would be most uncomfortable tweaking normal from this point on.

"Think like a general, fight like a spartan". Yeah right. No friendly fire and no proper tactical view of the battlefield really makes me think like a general...

Yep normal WITH friendly fire was perfect for me.

I felt like i was being tactical with my charecter placement and use of spells and cone of cold etc but i could also get through the game.

I get little enough time in my life for games as it is so dying 50 times as i slowely get better tactically is not for me!!

Normal/Hard with FF = Yes please

Its clear that this has been removed apart from on nightmare duie to the ISO camera going as that (i beleive i remember correctly) is why the console versons of DA:O didnt have FF at lower levels

Think like a general who's position has been overrun and has been forced into melee combat.

I've heard this before, but I'm not sure I agree. The isometric "all the way out" zoom may be gone, but you can still zoom out to like 50% of the old isometric distance. Combined with the textual feedback about who is getting caught in AOE, this suffices.

Now, complete lack of zoom-out would be difficult. I didn't play mass effect for years due to lack of zoom-out. I'm glad I got over that, though, since the story line and world in that series is so outstanding (Bioware's best in fact).

I would stress the point that in DA2 the textual feedback for AOE attacks includes the names of party members in the AOE, which is sufficient with the current camera to plan friendly-fire-avoiding attacks.

I'd like to add my support to this. I would prefer to play on Hardcore mode with Friendly Fire on or the proposed "Exteme Mode" which is Hard mode w/FF.  Otherwise I'm gonna have to play on Nightmare otherwise I'm worried the game will be too easy.

At least based on the PC demo. I think I could have solo'd that Ogre with just a Rogue on Normal Difficulty.  :?

You'll all be surprised to see me say....

/support

(Oh, I didn't realize that this was simply a retitled update of Pausanius' old thread, and that I had already voiced my support here. So I guess that makes my post even less surprising.)

Kind of too late on the suggestion though, the game is pretty much out of development.

They had plenty of fan input on this subject while the gameplay was still being adjusted and balanced. They chose to ignore it.

Just one point to clarify. When FF is off for our party, I suppose that it is off for the enemy as well?

Apparently, the problem with balancing FF is that FF-enabled turns all FF-hits into glancing blows (at least on melee) and glancing blows actually do more damage as you go down in difficulty.

So in melee, having 2 2H warriors would have each do 1/10th dmg to each other on nightmare if they're too close, but 3/4ths on easy. Since enemy HP & damage scales differently than PC health & damage, you could easily have 1-hit KOs with FF-enabled at lower difficulties in melee.
