Hey guys,

I've just got the brandnew PC Games and I want to share with you what they say about Dragon Age 2:

88%

pro:
 + very good story
+ very well developed and balanced characters (followers)
+ great dialogues with epic choices concerning morality
 + thrilling boss-fights

contra:
- limited possibility of developing your class
- very weak level design
- and an absolute unsatisfying ending

en detail about the leveldesign:
As I said, very weak. It seems entire levels have just been copy-pasted and only the labels were changed.
Besides the PC Games criticises that there's no open world, no open maps.
Most of the Maps resemble the one from the demo-version, which means, narrow paths.

Kirkwall, a city which should be full of live and chaos (because of the arrival of so many refugees), has a rather calm if not boring appearance. I think this is like Denerim - the capital city of Ferelden, you absolutely don't get the feeling of being in a metropolis when visiting Denerim Market District.

extra notes:
- The Game seems to have been mass-effected, in a positive and in a negative way.
(For example you cannot equip your followers, they wear their own equipment, which can be improved once by
solving their personal quest. Another example would be the ending: You've to choose which one of your followers has to do certain tasks - just like in Mass Effect 2)

- So far the game only crashed once during the test. Furthermore PC Game hasn't made out any bugs related to quests yet.

- They say, the game is only about 7 years, not 10 - and they counted each year carefully

Conclusion:
They say to fully enjoy Dragon Age 2, you have to accept that the time of old-fashioned RPGs is over.

SPOILER:

There's a screenshot showing Hawke fighting a...

 harvester

lol sounds exactly like mass effect 2 shift from me 1.
Too bad.
I question whether or not i want this rushed game.
Mass effect 2 was ok...but no where near great.
Based off this singel reveiw the game seems to be dumbed down.
some good ways.some bad ways.
they defintately made it all simpler and easier to manage.

How delightful that instead of preserving traditional RPGs, they're trying to kill them off as fast as possible to appease idiotic console gamers and turn a profit.

no wonder they wanted everyone to pre order....before people could verify it was a piece of trash.

Good business.

Depressing, especially if this too is handled like that Mass Effect 2 suicide mission - the game would be in danger of ending up feeling like ME2s copycat little brother in terms of narrative structure. Well, at least there's still that delicious PC Gamer review.

Exactly

"Sorry guys, RPGs as you know them are dead."

Yeah thats because you keep gutting what an RPG really is, reducing our choices and pretending its better. RPGs arent dead, you're just hell bent on killing them yourselves.

Honestly, whats the point of changing a lot of the things that fans of the original really enjoyed? There's a reason people liked the game and it wasnt because they assumed the sequel was going to be completely different and "better" by making it more like the last action game they played and completed in a couple of hours and then took back for a refund

You buy an RPG in an RPG series to play an RPG
Why are they assuming we want something different?

What's with all the negativity? This review isn't new and has been posted before.

As for level design, DAO re-used areas VERY badly too. Who cares if the writing is good?

And if you must put different clothes on your companions, just use a Mod.

Far as I know ONE reviewer wasn't happy about the ending. OMG NOES, it'll suck! *Whine* *Whine*

Seriously, folks, this is ridiculous!

they reused areas very badly for side quests mostly.

this sounds like they did it for the main story.

An assumption. Plain and simple. I don't play Bioware for unique landscapes. Bethseda can provide that and then some. Yet I prefer Bioware. Strange, huh?

I truly must bow down to such a MATURE argument. Will you ever stop trolling? I mean, if you hate DA2 so much, why are you wasting your time here?

Geez, how productive!

The only thing that really worries me is the level-recycling.

There are ways to cover this - using completely different tetures and decoration meshes for example.

If Bioware did it that way, I'll not complain, but if it's like Halo1's library, I'm gonna nerdrage.

I can't imagine Dragon Age with an unsatisfying ending. I'll wait and see. Maybe the "Big End" will be a DLC. But that will cause a lot of people to rage, too, I guess.

go read books.
Part of the video game experience is the visual aspect.
Not like the story in DAO was anything special.

Again, what is a disappointing ending to a reviewer need not be a bad ending to you or me. The ending won't offer closure, of course. Bioware would be stupid to do so, given their intention to continue this franchise after DA2.

I like reading books. But I also like games with a deep, involving story. Strange, huh?

If you thought the story of DAO wasn't all that great, why are you even following the franchise, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd agree the story wasn't special in DA: O, but the lore/characters/writing made up for it.

Regarding DA 2, it's far too soon to judge the story. And as far as the book reading comment is concerned, they don't offer you the ability to interact with the story and shape it like games do. Plus, like Persephone, I enjoy games with a good story.

That said, I do also enjoy games that can be fun from a gameplay perspective as well.

In any case, the visuals are a part of enjoying a game, yes. But it's not the defining factor that should determine whether or not you enjoy a game.

You could be mistaken about what you consider deep and involving.
I follow atm because I am bored of getting killed in COD.
Wasnt until recently that this all confirms that the game has been effected by mass effect 2.
I liked the first game because it was longer than most games.Had some replayability.Wasnt completely boring.
Il take a game that keeps me mildly entertained for weeks rather than a game that was very fun but only lasted a couple days.

If the maps get any more linear than the ones in DAO may as well just make everything a straight line.

That's not the point. Instead of improving on what actually made their game successful, they're displacing major aspects of the game, and taking away both the large and small details that made it great. Some of it is just change for the sake of change, but the majority of the changes seem to serve the purpose of making the game more "console-friendly" which in turn ends up simplifying it to extremes. The people airing their "negativity" and criticism are passionate gamers, so don't make the mistake of thinking we're trolls.

Not only that, but we're not even sure if they'll release a toolset, so "Just mod it," is not a valid response. I would if I could, believe me.

False. CDProjektRed is going to drop the witcher 2 soon and it will own DA2. They've picked up the baton BioWare has tossed away. The rise of the RPGlite is being ushered in with DA2 but the proper genre is not dead.
