Wow, I guessed it right off the bat. Is that a confirmed result of World Map? I got ankhegs + ogre berserkers at level 1 & 2 going between Beregost and the Beregost Temple, and three giant spiders revved up with SCS web-tosses going between Nashkell and the Nashkell Carnival... On a no-reload game that's a bit of a rough bug to steer around, but it's also just an absurdity. Who's going to attend the Carnival or Temple (and survive)?Son of Imoen wrote...
Even more horrible in modded BG1 though, with the enhanced World Map installed in a mega-mod-installation (BWP or hand-picked) you can run into wyverns or ettercaps when journeying south to Nashkel from Beregost in chapter 1.Flamedance wrote...

- I have a 3.40Ghz Pentium D, ATI Radeon HD 3600 series, Socket 775 Biostar MB, 2Gbs of Crucial Ballistix
RAM, and EVERY single time I run EITHER of the BG games, it uses 50% of the CPU (Both cores) and causes
my computer to shut itself off! It's a really old game for crying out loud & Mass Effect 2 doesn't pull that crap on
me. That's currently Number 1 on my list.
- Original BG or Sword Coast is unable to change it's resolution (til I found a mod that fixes that)
- Xzar & Montaron constantly complaining about a quest they wanna complete, even though I'm on my way there!
- Kobolds, enough said.
- Reputation system tied together with an annoying group of very high level righteuos pricks that sound like
ELVIS! "(something) The Flaming Fist!" then ambush, then you are dead in seconds. Thx FF, you just helped a
Chaotic Evil character.
- The first Ogre or Giant you come across while on the road to Beregost can kill your entire party easily. I even
cheated an he STILL killed my entire party with a darn club! The creature that says "Die Pipsqueak!"
- Playing any kind of mage? Don't sleep outside or else you'll get ambushed by wolves that will overwhelm your
mage (and Imoen) easily an then it's game over.
- Easy Difficulty is NOT easy, more like Easier for the game to kill you quicker while you gain exp at a much
slower rate, yeah thats awesome.
- NPCs can be total pricks to you, start a fight with you an the law does NOTHING! But in reverse, THEN they'll
attack you an help the pricks that provoked you! WTF? No it doesn't matter if you have a reputation of 19, the law
will still attack you an they won't help you. Yeah that's fair.
- XP cap, enough said. Plan on Dual classing your character? Sorry it still adds up to the XP cap. Thank you to
whoever made the XP Cap Remover!

You know there's a spell... protection from petrification.
You can also buy one (potion or the spell) from multiple stores in the game, including High Hedge and Sorcerous Sundries.

Hmm.. None. When a game is as awesome as BG... The best single-player game EVER, in my opinion, you just embrace everything about it.

I actually played BG2 before I even owned BG1... personally I think it's a much better game. I would recommmend picking up a few "mirrored eyes" potions from high hedge.. immunity to petrification and gaze attacks. IIRC they're cheaper than the scrolls.

Do people honestly hate the DnD system?
I don't see any hate for the DnD system. Only Humanoid_Typhoon, Seagloom and Snowbug comment on things that are DnD rules. More complaints in this topic have to do with engine limitations (like pathfinding) or the way the gameworld is build up (how easy you can get killed in some areas). Humanoid_Typhoon is often very critical and exact about things he doesn't like, but seeing how much passion he has for the game, I wouldn't say he hates DnD just because there are things he's critical about.
When I was young and played DnD at secondary school, things about AC and hit points got me wandering too. A system with lower hp, but higher chance to dodge (so getting smashed in Time Stop) seems more realistic to me, but I'm practically married to it. ADnD 2nd Edition is like a childhood love I discovered again when getting to know BG and just because it's so familiar, I guess, I love it the most of all systems. I find it more disturbing to have to get to know a new ruleset everytime I buy a new game (DAO, Drakensang, etc.). Gamewise, I'm an old conservative I guess.
